Were people not warned of what was going on? It seems like another failure of the water coming in and people being oblivious to it. Water reached 10 miles in land that is a long way to run if you saw it coming and no doubt not many will come aout alive, whole houses were engulfed its like some Hollywood movie its unreal.

Fukushima Daini has four units, all automatically shut down. Each reactor is surrounded by a concrete structure designed to trap any radioactivity. In reactor 1 the air pressure rose in the containment which indicated that a leak from the coolant system was occurring. So some emergency cooling systems were automatically activated, by law they were required to inform the public, which they did. The government then decided to evacuate everyone as a precautionary measure. If there was a coolant leak in unit 1 then you thank the western style containment vessel for keeping all radioactivity contained. KEPCO website says it was, although apparently the containment is at high-pressure - so they may have to vent the gases through HEPA filters to catch the radioactive particles or something.

At Fukushima Daiichi all reactors automatically shut down. The diesel generators that drive many important functions were turned on, but the electric power grid went down. After an hour, all of the diesel generators stopped working hence the reactors were relying on either battery power, or a system that uses high-pressure steam to pump water into the reactor at high-pressure. They might have a problem if the batteries cannot last long enough, they cannot restore power from the diesels or the grid for long enough, or the high-pressure system that works from steam (HPCI) doesn't work. HPCI needs high pressure in the reactor, if theyde pressurized it to get other low pressure safety systems to work before the diesels stopped working, I don't know if they can use HPCI again.

If they can't restore cooling (or keep the battery powered systems running until after the battery runs out, which would be happening around now btw) then the core will eventually melt, possibly through the reactor, then possibly through the containment although that is unlikely. That will have significant consequences for Japan. I will not be anything like Chernobyl because Chernobyl was a reactor with no containment vessel, which exploded, and then burned for days. The reactor type in Japan is far different and doesn't have these problems.

If the reactors were damaged or some of the cooling systems failed, then it's likely that the other emergency systems will be maintained until the reactor has cooled, then it will be defueled, repaired, and probably upgraded to stop the same thing happening again.[

5AM here, bed time.

When he said "Do as your told", It struck a weird vibe in me as well. It kind of made the hair on my arms raise and then it just royally ticked me off.

Probably you have just read too much tinfoil-fluff.
It is good that he told people to actually DO as they are TOLD, as it is a classic that many people during caothic situations much too often tend to start acting like headless chickens and do everything except for what they should do, and then run along and get themselves killed because they did not listen to the given instructions. And when this happens, fluffheads ofcourse instantly picks this up and blames Freemasons and Skulls & Knickers and whatever they come up with.

This event is shocking for everyone.. It's a terrible, terrible situation.

But what really shocks me even more is how the news seems to keep going on about how "nobody has begun to work out the financial costs" and talking about how "insurance companies facing massive pay outs/claims"

People, animals and the Earth are under extreme stress and life/death situations yet some are only worried about money.. Astonishing how the markets have reacted..

It can not be about the money any longer... It's about life and living. (rant over)

I hope the reactor can be brought under control..
We've seen very little about the dam bursting .. no further updates on that yet.. 2 trains are still missing.. I expect many fires are still burning..

Going to take a good few days to sort this lot out..

that big one in south America last year I think it was, knock us off our axis as well. Kinda normal for that to happen with these Major hits. Bigger stronger quakes in the past 2 years. Anyone else noticing that? I don't remember monstrous quakes like this when I was a kid. Meh I miss being a kid sometimes.

It shifted some during the chile quake last year. So it shifted 10 more cm...

No. Not for something that stirred up the earth as much as this did. And they will continue for a while. There is also a pretty decent probability of another "big one" there in the next few hours/days.

I apologize if someone already mentioned this but didn't Edgar Cayce predict earthquakes in Japan and that most of Japan would be lost to the sea? Does anyone have more info?
