The will go down as the greatest disaster in modern times. The waves will go outward from the source at full velocity until they reach land. It doesn't matter how long they take to reach it. That is why The waves will probably hit all the way in Hawaii. If I were on the beach anywhere on the Pacific Ocean I would be getting out. 52 countries have evacuation alerts. We are talking about millions of people that are in the paths of dangers. Whole islands on the pacific will be swallowed up. This is gigantasropic.

I had been following the 7.2 Earthquake from 08/03/11 and after seeing Tsunami advice from the USGS, didnt think there was much more to it.

However today, 11/03/2011 an 8.8 Earthquake has hit the same area, and has and is causing massive damage to Coastal area's of Japan as i type this message.

Tsunami, quake havoc in northern Japan;

Japan was struck by a magnitude 8.9 earthquake off its northeastern coast Friday, unleashing a four metre tsunami that washed away cars and tore away buildings along the coast near the epicentre. There were reports of injuries in Tokyo.

In various locations along Japan's coast, TV footage showed massive damage from the tsunami, with dozens of cars, boats and even buildings being carried along by waters. A large ship swept away by the tsunami rammed directly into a breakwater in Kesennuma city in Miyagi prefecture, according to footage on public broadcaster NHK.

Officials were trying to assess damage, injuries and deaths from the quake but had no immediate details.

The quake that struck at 2:46 pm was followed by a series of powerful aftershocks, including a 7.4-magnitude one about 30 minutes later. The US Geological Survey upgraded the strength of the first quake to a magnitude 8.9, while Japan's meteorological agency measured it at 7.9.

The meteorological agency issued a tsunami warning for the entire Pacific coast of Japan. NHK was warning those near the coast to get to safer ground.

YES. They are talking about the Phillipines right now. Saying to get away from the coastline.

They are saying the

ENTIRE pacific rim is at risk.

That right now they are only alerting the locally affected and more warnings will be issued!!!

Anyone seeing that huge fireball at the oil refinery? I can't even imagine... Goodluck to everyone who could potentially feel strong effects from this. Really hoping everyone stays safe. I'm in Pennsylvania and I'm freaking out a bit.
