I don't think the majority of the main stream media will associate him with ATS and here is why, If they do that, then that will direct thousands of people to this website, and chances are many will have there eyes opened by the things posted on here, I don't think that's a risk they will take.

I think all in all, they will just point to his youtube and myspace pages, and call him a conspiracy theorist, hoping to deter people from even thinking about looking at these kinds of websites.

ATS in my opinion is the best website on the internet for a diversity of topics and information, so it is not surprising that it attracts some mentally unstable people. That is not ATS fault in any way. We have all seen posts from people that show they have serious mental issues. But usually they find themselves banned by the mods. However some stay just onside enough to stay as active members. One rotten wormy apple doesn't mean all the apples in a grocery store are all rotten. Same with ATS we have some rotten members, but they are very few because of the excellent moderation at ATS, they usually get picked out and banned.

Good point and it raises a couple more.

a) If people are directed here the ATS advertising revenue increases so its going to be in the interests of ATS owners to encourage more traffic (I guess that is one of the reasons they started their own thread on this subject, yes its blood money, but better in the long run to have an 'official' take on the subject)

b) If the media dont want to attract people here then it assumes that the information on ATS is influential and then maybe ATS can be held to (at least a small proportion) of account for creating an anti establishment atmosphere.

c) There is more chance of proving their case that he was a conspiracy nut by using ATS as an example to quote him from.

I still fail to see why some are concerned about how we are portrayed in the media if it even gets to that point.

Most are here because they whole heartedly believe in something. Since when is that something to be ashamed of? Many great people in history have been mocked, ridiculed, and at times put to death for what they believed in or the truths they spoke.

If you see an injustice and fail to point it out due to public perception, what does that say for integrity?

We are all here to either seek our own truth, shine light on injustice, or just engage in conversations about things that are rarely classified as mainstream. Let others percieve it how they wish. None of us are responsible for the opinions or actions of other people.

The media (or anyone else) will spin this site however they please. It matters not how we feel about it, or what avatar we choose.

If you feel what you post here is truth and important, then let them portray it how they wish. You, and I, and thousands of others can judge for ourselves. Don't waste time worrying about how the general public percieves you... ever. It is a waste and should never affect how you act, speak, or what you think.

I can tell you with certainty, that the issue of increased traffic was not even a point of conversation in this decision. (I don't even recall it being raised, to be honest)....

The decision for an official post on the matter was made SOLELY for transparency, and the desire to be upfront with both the ATS community, and the global community. It's just good business, and the moral and just thing to do. Simple as that.

I'm you're No. ninety sweetheart. Good thread indeed. Makes me nervous bigtime. More than any of the end of the world threads which quite a few of them are showing good measure.

I agree with Mr.Crowley LOOSER!

Relax. The media doesn't care about the site. And its going a little overboard banning him and shutting down relating threads.

Not read every reaply but I think ATS should send the media a link to his very first thread here that shows an ATS member questioning this mans sanity within a few replys.

Forums like this have a lot to offer and dont need the bad press.

Has the media stated that he was a short term member that made 4 threads and was ridiculed in every one of them?

He may be a member. I'm a member and you are a member. Just because he went after someone doesn't mean that everyone here is going to do the same thing. Unfortunately they may (new outlets and the people who are hypnotized by them) may get the train of thought 'if one is then they all are' mentality. If so then I say bring it. There's a virtual army on this site that can go on the offensive and flood the media in defense of ATS.

I agree 100%. Another thing to think about is the countless numbers of other forums and sites out there that he may have belonged to. If ATS were to get some kind of bad rap, then every other thing he belonged to should. (i.e. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc). Now beyond that, any kind of social group he belonged to should also be questioned then right? So if he went to "So-and-So's" Bowling alley, or belonged to a church group, then those groups too should be targeted for the question of, "are those crazy people?"

Like someone else said, its 1 in 1,000,000. Don't worry about people discrediting us as a whole or you personally. Share the information with the public as much as you want, because the other 999,999 people here are NOT crazy.

Part of the banning is to prevent someone from hacking the account and attempting to post as him, etc., as well as other concerns.

As for closing the posts, one should realize that he hasn't posted here in over half a year, so not like these are active threads anyhow.

No, I haven't read all the hundreds of posts.
and this may already have been said, but.....
since there is anticipated a deluge of visitors and possibly those Joining,...
Perhaps there should be restrictions on new membership for a while.

Like take no new ones until it looks like things are simmering down.

Guys at the end of the day, the other forum members had no idea he was a nut case or a potential killer.
I also imagine he was a member of other forums too.

Just because he was on here, does not reflect anyone else on here or the site itself.

I think if ATS had deleted his posts or silenced any such threads, then there'd be reason to worry...

I agree that no one knew the guy was a nut case. No one knew what he was going to do before hand. With those statements I agree 120% but that is where it ends.

It is very foolish and very naive to think it will not reflect back on the site or the members here. In a perfect world, it shouldn't reflect on anyone else other than the individual, but I am sure I do not have to explain to anyone here that we do not live in a perfect world.

What this individual did was attempt to kill a sitting member of Congress. Members of this site have been targeted and are considered "extremist" in the eyes of Government. I can not be the only member who remembers when the ADL put out a report which listed members of this site as potential domestic extremist. You can visit that thread here. Which of course caused ATS to file a cease and desist order.

It should also come as no secret to anyone here that the Government is opportunistic. They use very real situations to continue agendas. Which agenda will be pushed by this event? You can take your pick. It might be gun rights, it might be domestic terrorism, it might be internet censorship or it might just be all of them.

IMHO I would be careful about the "cryptic" messages made by new members. The reason why ATS is what it is, is because we know to read between the lines. Due to the threads concerning a possible link between ATS and this horrific event, there will be a HUGE amount of new members, that will make such claims, or even leave cryptic remarks in order to get attention.

If this had not happened, then would we really be asking for someone to give more info about a one word sentence? We have hundreds of posts regarding this, and we should be careful, about what is said, and or insinuated at this point. Especially after I saw the new member and visitor thread. People will be looking for a story, or a better connection to possibly tie ATS to this event.
Just my 2 cents.
Peace, NRE.

This is such a long post on nothing but speculation. You can't just put 2 and 2 together speculatively and call it 4. What you did was put 2 and (?) together and called it gospel. All of these stupid webpages and Examiner (the sister magazine to the Enquirer...yeah, valid). A muscle mag? I hear those beef-heads are extreemely intelligent. My point is, they can say what they want but there's more proof that he was affiliated with the MEDIA than with Above Top Secret. We actually heard them talking about him and showing pictures etc. So listen up everyone Jared Lee Loughner is affiliated with MSNBC and NBC and CNN and many other high profile media monsters. Because he was spoken about and frequented their news specials they are indeed affiliated with him and his crimes of murder and mayhem. So, Homeland Security.......when are you going to arrest the heads of these media monsters for being affiliated with a t3rrorist? It makes the media look so bad being affiliated with this guy. Two can play that game.
