ALERT: M9.3 Solar Flare: Sunspot 1261 is at it again, this time producing a strong M9.3 Solar Flare at 03:57 UTC Thursday morning. It also turns out that yet another Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) was produced and you can see it in the still image below captured by STEREO Ahead.

Protons are zooming in... Daamn Lots of em too

I am assuming this is from the very recent CME, as the M6.1 Flare had no CME.
So. Did it seriously only take approx. an hour for this CME to reach earth?

Yes, It takes 2-4 hours for these particles, protons, to reach the satelite. Much faster than the rest what causes a geomagnetic storm.
The ones you show are probably related to the recent M9 event.

Also on august 2 and 3 there was an earth directed cme, you can see that in the graph

So now it looks like the incoming CME's just smacked into the magnetosphere,
compressing it, making the satellite's vulnerable to anything else oncoming.

if you watch carefully you can see how the left side of this region gains in chaotic complexity throughout the video this is the latest 12 hours of the most active region.

Is this the increased chance for M or X class flare? Is that buildup of magnetic plasma CME possible soon?

Just read a story in Reuter titled, "Power companies prepare as solar storms set to hit Earth". I thought it was interesting because usually news like this seems to get pushed aside. I would link it but I am sligthly computer techno illiterate. Very interesting.

I just read the same article.

People were commenting on how,on one hand, it will force people to deal with HUMANS again, instead of being immerged in their ipods, cell phones, and Facebook.

On the other hand, its TOO hot for the power to go out.

They did note that it may be pretty serious....

Power companies on alert for solar storm

These solar storms will 20 times worse on the Earth when the magnetic poles flip
on the sun in 2012.OMG! Run for the underground bunker. Buy Campbell soup.
NASA Themis Project confirmed it.
Listen carefully to the female voice when she says 20 times!

We will be ok until the poles flip on the sun.
When that happens THEN head for the hills.
------------
My guess is we won't get a direct hit until December 21, 2012.

There have been three solar explosions from the sun already this week, but the first one passed the earth with little impact. However, the second one, Kunches said, "seems to be stronger." If that trend continues when the third one passes earth, it could be more disruptive to the Earth's magnetic field.

"We're coming up to the next solar maximum, so we expect to see more of these storms coming from the sun over the next three to five years," Tom Bogdan, director of the center, said.

Perfect! I know that my (and others reported on ATS) electricity was affected on the last storm. If more of these storms keep coming (and increase) I have to wonder what that will do.......
