Interestingly enough, I couldn't find any previous thread made on this - but let me know if there is one. Also the title is slightly misleading but I had to fit it in there. I'm not sure how many drugs were legalized, but I read else where (one of the links below) Portugal "decriminalized the use and possession of heroin, coc aine, marijuana, '___' and other illicit street drugs". I don't live in Portugal (but wish I did

Just my 2p, but there's evidence to suggest that smoking cannabis while the brain is developing can cause depression, anxiety and long term damage. Google is your friend, but my advice to kids that smoke weed (or that want to smoke it) is wait till you're older.

I think he was more concerned about his daughter going to jail. Be prepared to say that comment over and over again to every parent & child once its legalized. But they won't listen because if it's legal then its okay.

As for what you said about Alcohol, I never said it wasn't dangerous. In fact, I already said it would be great if it can be illegal again. But why do I talk about cannabis for instance? well because its close to being legal, and its imperative to stop it now from being legal or all hope would be lost if one wants to make other stuff like tobacco or alcohol illegal. How does one expect children to make the right choices??? You dont, all you guys say; "let them experience it and they will learn from their mistakes." And some others don't see it as a mistake at all.

Well, I'm baffled. The government already controls what you eat, so don't pretend you got some total freedom because you don't, its bogus talk. Secondly, the government should never be responsible or be an instigator to the distribution of harmful substances that overwhelm the pleasure system in the brain. Drug users sure feel entitled to ingesting whatever they like, but a big problem arises when those drug users encourage others to do the same. We got a president who was a user of such drugs yet he never said he'll make it legal actually he did the exact opposite. He has kids as well, I wonder why he made such a decision, how about you guys think about that. I have a feeling the people here who laughed and ridiculed me will regret doing so in the future when it becomes clear how very wrong they were.

Again I would suggest you seek out the studies. Studies from countries that have chose to legalize show that teenage use DECREASES and not increases. This may come as a shock to you, but you do not need to worry about how kids will make the right decisions, they just do.

You asked why Obama, who reportedly used drugs himself, did not legalize? Well, I would suggest that it has nothing to do with his children and everything to do with Big Pharma.

So, you never did anything wrong? Ever?

You've never taken a bong hit at a party? Never drank before you were 21? Never sped?

I don't even do Coke...Cola. The question you have to ask yourself, why would I do anything wrong? Always seemed like a no brainer, no pun intended.

I am not ashamed of her either. What she smoked was LEGAL.

That being said, I personally find it foolish. These "natural herbs" are not natural at all. No one knows exactly what is in it, they are not FDA approved. They come with many different names, some are actually a potpourie. I found one which the main ingredient was actually a cough suppressant.

I have no idea what point you are attempting to make with the video. Again, what she did was legal. Would you have the same opinion if she was 21 in the video and drinking a beer?

First you need to ask yourself why you are of the opinion drugs are wrong...drug addiction is wrong and will lead to misery eventually, drug use? Nope, whether we are talking legal or illegal. Surely you must understand that drugs and humans have been together since humans existed, they will continue to be used responsibly and used irresponsibly. Do you not think it is best that these drugs are taken out of the hands of criminals and created of a better quality? no fillers and nasty things that drug dealers tend to add? Surely given that drug use is an obvious human pastime in a very large majority of people and has existed since the dawn of man... this should be the most sane and rational course of action? And again, your opinion of drugs is irrelevant in the end, the massive ego and totalitarian streak someone must have to presume that what they deem appropriate to smoke or ingest must apply to every other adult is enormous.

No.. Miley is horrible.. can we forget her?

I for one appreciate your opinions and am more than happy for you to have them. I disagree with some points but also think hard drugs like Speed, Cocaine, Ice, etc, are bad for us no matter the dosage.

The old saying... one man's meat is another man's poison.... applies here I think. Which means that some may agree with you and others won't. And each is entitled to their view... so no point arguing over it really.

I really would love to take a guess at your age. High school? Middle?

You cannot truly know something until you've experienced it firsthand. Secondhand knowledge can keep you out of trouble but in the end you will lack the wisdom that comes only with firsthand experience.

There's an oft-talked-about phenomenon, though I'm not sure if there's a name for it, where people rebel against their parents' values, go all-out hedonistic, only to eventually discover the consequences and come full-circle and realize their parents were right all along. This may seem like running in a pointless circle, but it's different. These people have true wisdom, as they have seen the consequences firsthand. They have lived.

But there's more than just the circle that comes from living things firsthand. You can evolve genuine disagreements with your upbringing. For example, marijuana very likely saved my life. In any case it pulled me out of a downward spiral of depression, got me to quit drinking (at the time, heh), and I remained out of the spiral even after I stopped smoking on a regular basis. But this is not something my parents would have ever condoned.

Let me add that it really pains me to have to argue with someone who's avatar is Jack O'Neill.

They don't even show her doing anything, the news team just begins crucifying her.

Where in the video where Miley takes her bong hit (The actual video, not the commentary) did anything evil happen? Who did she hurt?

How is sitting on a couch giggling so hard you nearly pee your pants a crime?

I don't think its fair to assume that my life is nice and cushioned. "life sucks, drugs help"? So it isn't enough for a person to be depressed, but he gotta be an addict too? Someone could be responsible and use with moderation but for a lot of users, when the SHTF they fall back on drugs or alcohol. Life sucks? give me a break. Drugs don't help in the long run, they will only make things worse, and to you I guess its better for a person to accept their depressing reality in a cloud of marijuana smoke rather than pick themselves up and do something to better their lives.

No I wasn't hurt by a stoner and my family were never hurt by stoners either, stop trying to make it seem as though I'm crazy. I got friends who love to do marijuana and its a religion to them so much so that they try to persuade me to do the same, because not doing drugs can seem a little offensive in such social scenarios. They tell me how awesome it is and they can never live without it.

So let me get this right; you want people to do the bad things in order to gain experience & wisdom? basically in order for someone to know whats bad for them, they gotta try first? Good justification there, actually, its not. A smart person would learn from the mistakes of his elders or others. I'm not a masochistic, I do not wish to turn my life into a disastrous roller-coaster ride just to feel alive. I know whats right already and I didn't need to spend many nights dwelling on it for me to reach such a conclusion. Don't worry, I'm actually a college student, with almost no good future prospects I think, not too optimistic in other words, however, that doesn't give me the right to spread that miserable nihilistic drug around just because things are not going so well for me.

Yes the Jack O'Neill avatar, I can see why that might be a problem for you.

To the OP

I know plenty of people who smoke marajuana who have very good established jobs such as lecturers, professors, musicians, contractors, architects, designers etc.

Guess it's funny how my reality and your reality don't blend.

But as i say, you're entitled to your opinion. Even if it is a little bit 1940's.

No. People will do what they do out of a sense of inner urgency and hopelessness. What I want is for people like you to stop demonizing them for it.

The experience and wisdom is just a side effect of having gone through such hell and coming out the other end still alive.

When it comes to drugs and drug-related advice I'd trust somebody who's used and quit, or uses in moderation, over someone who's never used at all. Any day of the week.

Absolutely. Without a shadow of a doubt.

Education not demonisation. Very side words.

I wouldn't trust anyone to give me drug advice if i knew they had never taken drugs.

Sounds like the OP is a little clueless.

My friend,

Life is about experiences. We are all here with the desire to experience different things. I am certain you have things that you wish to experience which you consider to be "good". Would you wish for others to bar your access to these experiences simply because they disagreed with your opinion of there "goodness"?

I suspect you wouldn't if you are honest about it.

We are not here to judge each others experiences. We are here to love and support each other. Passing judgement on each other only brings about the many conflicts you see in our world today. All things are good. God created all things. Do people become addicted to drugs? Absolutely! However, they wouldn't become addicted to drugs if the life they experienced provided the pleasure they found in the drug. We have the power to make life that pleasurable for all. This existence is not the cruel prison that we have made it. This existence is heavenly bliss. I do not need any drug to understand this. I have taken the responsibility to make it so.

As you seem to be one who is responsible, you can help make it heaven for all. All you have to do is stop judging, start loving, and share your life with your Brothers and Sisters.

Judge not, Love all, be at peace.

With Love,

Your Brother

I'm not sure how to write on this topic and not break the T&C's

I will try.

Here is the problem.

Some people take drugs no matter what their legal status is.
This is just a stone cold fact and it is true of every single culture around the entire world from Amazonian tribes people to members of the royal family (take your pick as to which royal family).

Once you accept that fact and accept that no culture on earth has ever been able to change that fact then the only thing you have left to decide is how you are going to deal with it.

Some people think that putting people in prison and creating a huge black market economy worth Trillions of Dollars full of opportunists, thieves and murderers is not the best way to deal with it.

Man i love Eisenhower.. Wish he were still around......

I never realized what a great man he was until I started reading some of his quotes yesterday. I was alive when he was President and if I could turn back the clock, repeal all the laws, I would do it no matter what the cost.

The Elite ripped apart American society and then brainwashed everyone that they needed "Daddy" Government to wrap them in cotton batting and take care of/enslave them.

If you want to know WHY we have the drug and other social problems here in the USA and why we have lost our identity as a nation. Read:

The Pew Report (long)
www.pewtrusts.org...

History, HACCP and the Food Safety Con Job: www.opednews.com...

Our whole culture and civilization is based on farming. Destroy the food supply and you destroy your enemy. The first rule in war.

' The Socialist Revolution in the US cannot take place because there are too many small independent farmers there. Those people are the stability factor. We here in Russia must hurry while our government is stupid enough to not encourage and support the independent farmership.' V. Lenin, the founder of the Russian revolution

Congress, this past week, just passed the law that will destroy our "small independent farmers" The ground work for Establishing Martial Law in the United States and a dictatorship is already complete.

The docility of Americans is very apparent as they submit to more and more intrusive violations of their rights, from the 1970's seatbelt laws through piss-in-a-bottle to Grope-N-Fly. I do not think the USA as a Constitutional republic will still exist when the children born now die.

The Author of this thread is an excellent example of why.
