Interesting Nasa APOD today.

apod.nasa.gov...

Not a fan of the artwork myself...

Nasa also seems to have uploaded an interesting video today as well.

buzzroom.nasa.gov...

About "Conspiracy theories" and a secret Mars Mission.

Silly NASA...

Well, the discovery is this:

"NASA Finds Youngest Nearby Black Hole"
For Release: November 15, 2010

Evidence for the youngest known black hole in our cosmic neighborhood has been found using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes. The age and proximity of this object could provide astronomers with a unique opportunity to watch a black hole develop during its infancy.

Very cool. May not be as exciting as ATS expected (but that's subjective). This is going to offer us a really unique opportunity to study a black hole, something that is still really mysterious to us. Keeping an eye on it for sure.

Ah very nice and star for you
! I always find Black Holes fascinating whether it's an artists rendition or just simple information on it so this is nice to hear

[edit]
Ack I somehow got my reply mixed up with something else, though my fascination with Black holes still stand.

I do have wishful thinking about what will be announced tomorrow. In this forum, some guy claims that the vatican reserved slots for a global announcement. I admit I am skeptical. Anyone find any other sources?

I think N-ASS-A (sorry, couldn't resist) pulls these tricks every now and then to stir up speculation. Then, once we're all spun-up and spouting ideas about what it could possibly be, the kind(s) of object(s) we want it to be... They scour sites like ATS to see what ideas we've come up with. They see how accurate the speculation is to the "real" truth, or *a* real truth, and then catalog who said what, where they said it and when. For what reason?

Perhaps someone wants to know how successful their disinformation campaign has been. At the end of the day, I'll be shocked if this is something really, really profound and/or interesting. I don't mean to sound so negative, but they've done this too many times. I'm *GRANDLY* excited about space, exploration, and everything else we simply don't know about...! N-ASS-A, though? I suggest reading "DARK MISSION: THE SECRET HISTORY OF NASA." It's highly documented and sourced, and it's scary-real-true. They need to do a documentary based on that book and air it on the History Channel.

I simply refuse to trust an agency so corrupt that it has repeatedly withheld, delayed and/or manipulated facts, updates and images on such a regular basis that I question just about *everything* they put out for public consumption. The average employee is most likely a good, honest person. It's the leadership, top leadership, mainly. And, as Hoagland says, "The lie is different at every level." Highly recommended reading for the ATS audience.

I agree totally, when I posted the Panelists BIO's in this thread a couple of days ago, they all specialised in Black Holes, so makes total sense..

Thanks for that! I believe you are absolutely correct, I dropped a thread about it here:

What's "exceptional" about a black hole?

There's plenty of them in space!

The press release stating what is going to be announced tommorrow is about 3 posts behind you.

In the interest of true progressive discussion on these forums, can we PLEASE have individuals read the thread before you post? This is not a 50 page thread, where that request would be unreasonable.

If you bothered to read the release, the "exceptional" part of the black hole is it's close enough for us to get a possible solid read on a very unknown phenomena. This is the space exploration forum---if you wanted to hear about about aliens, I might suggest visiting that forum. Calling a black hole "boring" is an insult to space enthusiats (and space professionals, who are directly responsible for our continued survival as a species).

My apologies for that. I did state earlier that it may be interesting for those who study space.

And I was sort of hoping it was a mothership of some sort...
