I read the bill, and it seems like this is directed towards copyright infringement. They aren't really censoring anything yet except pirating. But it does set the stage for the next step, which is censorship of anything they want. Like being one of those "racist/terrorist" tea partiers.

This means no more free music on youtube including those anime amvs and movie amvs created by the fans and this also means no more free viewing mangas, comics, free flash web based games, no more downloading.

The list can go on and on.

Every free website will blacklisted, but those sites that require credit cards or other forms of payments, they wont be blacklisted.

this bill must be stopped!

Well, I signed the petition and posted it on my Facebook, if that helps any. That's the best I can do as a college graduate working part-time at a casino. Cheers! : P

I am definitely going to read up on this and educate myself...however...we have the "freedom of free speech", and I don't see how this can affect that. We "should" all be able to continue posting, making pages and sites, etc. But this IS a very scary first step from a government that doesn't respect the people, and considers us "stupid" and needy of control. If you take the creativity away, and tax the internet, etc...it will either disappear (which I'm sure this government wants) or go underground (but that won't last long).

"They" don't like "we the people" to be able to speak freely, share ideas (as crazy as some are), etc. They want to control us like sheep, dominate us and use us a livestock. Not that any of this is a new thought...but people need to understand the systematic murder of freedom that government is attempting.

End of rant!

Nothing new once so ever. Internet censorship began under the Bush administration and it's pretty upsetting to see it continue, but like I said, not surprising.

Sad times ahead.

Remember these names and VOTE THEM OUT when you have the opportunity to do so -

September 20, 2010

Mr. LEAHY (for himself, Mr. HATCH, Ms. KLOBUCHAR, Mr. WHITEHOUSE, Mr. SCHUMER, Mr. KOHL, Mr. SPECTER, Mr. DURBIN, Mr. BAYH, Mr. VOINOVICH, and Mrs. FEINSTEIN) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary -COICA

Some things are best left in the Congressional washrooms and not paraded around for all to see. Like 2 year-olds here they are saying "Hey! Everyone look at the load of crap we came up with this time!"

I'm starting to believe in reptilians because no human could ever reach their necks around far enough to do the things these people (?) can (in 3 piece suits, no less!).
Even if we canceled their retirement package they could still join the sideshow as the Incredible Congressional Contortion Combo.

if this were passed, say goodbye to any hope of net neutrality. it is my belief that the only instances in which net neutrality should be breached would be to save the life of and adult or child, as in a stalker case or pedophile case. other than those two instances net neutrality is a must. for some people the only place they can release their rage is on the internet. take that away....hundreds, thousands, maybe even millions of people full of hate and anger with no where constructive to place those emotions..talk about a bomb waiting to go off. net neutrality also protects against government abuses, both in the open and in the dark.

i shudder to think what will happen if this pass this bill and anonymous decides they have to teach the government a lesson. if even one of them has access to any infrastructure servers, we're in big doodoo.

Lars Ulrich eats his words (Global Metal)

Napster Bad (Warning) Language BAD!

Well Lars Ulrich woke up!

Then

At the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, Ulrich appeared in a skit with host Marlon Wayans that blasted the idea of using Napster to share music. Marlon played a college student sitting in his dorm room listening to Metallica's "I Disappear". Ulrich walked in and asked for an explanation. On receiving Wayans' excuse that using Napster was just "sharing", Lars retorted that Marlon's idea of sharing was "borrowing things that were not yours without asking." He called in the Metallica road crew, who proceeded to confiscate all of Wayans' belongings, leaving him almost nude in an empty room. Napster creator Shawn Fanning responded later in the ceremony by presenting an award wearing a Metallica shirt, saying, "I borrowed this shirt from a friend. Maybe, if I like it, I'll buy one of my own."[56]

Internet will take care of those clowns. It is not in Internet's interest to be suppressed. Internet will device its own means and go directly through their brains and establish communication without their being aware of it. Welcome to the Fractal Era - the Age of Information is Dead!

To the extent that the net is now wiretapped, somewhat censored and soon to be more so, can ordinary users setup a sort of P2P, encrypted "ghost web" that would enable us to continue having unscensored private networking?

Would it be further possible to omit the majority of the physical web? Most computers now have a wireless adaptor. Could we set up a massive scale ad hoc network and just jump from one PC to another. It would be slow as hell with current tech but that would come up. And we would need satellite access to jump across the oceans or any other distance, but it seems remotely feasible.
