IF this quake did occur, then what area would likely be affected by a Tsunami? Not in China, but in the US? Is the USGS possibly withholding info. on this to avoid mass panic on the West Coast of the US? Just a thought.

Why are you talking about tsunamis?
Tsunamis are produced by disturbances under the ocean.

Sichuan, where this quake is said to have occurred, is nowhere near the ocean.

Some idea's-

Bunch of kids out Cow Tipping. Tipped one over right on top of a seismograph.

Dog used sensor to relieve self causing a ground in his shorts.

Jackie Chan making another Drunken Master movie, had one too many.

Geology Student thought it would be funny to hit a sensor with a rock to see what would happen, gets failing grade for a reward.

Elvis emerged from his hiding place and kicked the sensor really hard. He's funny that way.

Batboy, confused by microwaves broadcasting info from the seismograph slams head first into the device, believing it to be a tasty moth.

ATS Exec flies to China, kicks seismograph to see if members paying attention.

Seismograph falls into hole left by emerging Reptilians preparing for Obama's State of the Union tonight.

I find it oddly striking that paying attention to these little disturbances is very VERY oddly similar to watching the uterus monitor during weak labor.

You are right; the two events are very similar.

They can both be caused by a reaction to the injection of hot fluids, generally causing tremblers and rhythmic shaking.

They are both preceded by observable physical disturbances.

Animals frequently flee when an earthquake is imminent. Many men, surprised by the prospect of child-birth, display similar behaviour.

There are groups of conspiracy theorists who believe that childbirths are being artificially induced.

Although it's the quake/birth that grabs the spotlight of media attention, the real tragedy is what comes later. Cleaning up the messes, surviving the financial loss, trying to provide food and housing, night after night without sleep as the victims of this disaster struggle to cope with the results ...

Our commiserations should go out to all those affected by such events.

No information is coming in that there was an Earthquake, so the best assumption would be that it is false.

I dont understand though, why would the Chinese government or anybody like that want to keep this a secret ?

What does this achieve/who gains by keeping this a secret ?

Would be a huge quake anywhere...I have a source provided by another member in another thread thats great. It list all the troubles in the world including earthquakes and the only one I see in China for today was 3.9.

I hope nothing happened, but it would give some proof to the upcoming events that may occur. I'd rather not be shed the light though, and rather not see millions die. I'd be pretty upset myself, and honestly I'd try and get the hell out of this country to go help.

If anyone figure out if this is real or not, I may not have time to check this thread over and over, so please if someone can U2U me the results when they're officially in (false or not) please let me know! Thank you.

Perhap's it was a spacecraft coming into the atmosphere..
who knows..

although chances are it was an error.. because an 8.6 and 9.1 are absolutely devastating espeically in that area of China with 82 million... it would be many times worse than haiti.

i'm calling this bogus right now

Did some research and found this website (don't think its been posted yet in this thread, sorry if it has):

ASL DCC QIZ TELEMETRY DATA

Reports straight from China saying there was an 8.6... I'm thinking if no quake happened then it was some sort of nuclear testing. No one is going to joke and fake this occurrence, something did happen we might just not know what.

I'm about to call up China myself and see what's up!

edit to say then again the USGS website still says this:\

Preliminary Earthquake Report
Magnitude 5.0 SHAANXI-SHANXI BORDER REG, CHINA
Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 02:36:14 UTC

Which is said to be the latest quake... I don't know what's going on here, someone/some people are keeping something under wraps. But you'd think if some sort of nuclear testing were the cause that the seismic data would be turned off... maybe someone forgot let it slip into the stats online and now they're trying to cover it up? But common, no one in the world can get away with letting off any sort of large bomb, especially atomic/nuclear without everyone else finding out... I'm still confused please someone let me know when they find out.

I checked the coordinates on google earth and that region seems to be completley mountainous with no real population for miles, could that be why it`s not been reported? Simply not affecting many people.

Regiune: SICHUAN, CHINA
Latitudine: 31.5311N
Longitudine: 108.9173E
Adancime: 15km
Data/Ora: 27.01.2010, 18:51 (UTC)
Magnitudine: 8.6 ( mb=8.6 )

Which makes me think that they were testing nuclear weapons even more... Wouldn't it make sense to do it in a less populated area then I don't know... In a city of millions of citizens? My vote=YES.

Thanks, but Firefox is saying not to allow the site.....keeps giving me warnings.

I've been using it for more than six years without problem. I suspect that USGS doesn't use a secure HTTPS connection, which, when I use the links in the email, brings up a warning with my firewall protection as well. Cheap-adz .gov most likely, but I don't blame you for being wary.

I have read most of this thread.

Has anyone thought about the ongoing conflict between GOOGLE & CHINA?

Perhaps Google is toying even more with the information coming out of China?

Just saying is all.....

Someone call the Chinese Embasy,
Thank You ATS

I get CCTV (english) as well as PCNE (chinese) on my sat. Not a peep about any quake. PCNE, (also known as Phoenix) is currently showing their morning program, and there seems only to be general news stories being shown. Looks like this is a false alarm.
