can someone explain why NO geological website knows of this, NO news knows of this, NO china news has reported it NOTHING, its TOO FISHY

If there is a large disaster taking place, these people have better things to do than to type online, "We're being crushed."

Maybe someone on a hike accidentally kicked the equipment.

It says it was off the coast, so maybe some scuba diver hit it with their flipper

Wha? Sichuan province borders Tibet. It's nowhere near a coastline.

27Jan2010 18:51:48.5 0.3N 0.5E 71 mb=8.6 6 ROM OFF S. COAST OF NORTHWEST 1905

That's just what is says...OFF S. COAST...

I am finding it hard to lend any credibility to this so far, there would be atleast SOMETHING otu there about it.

Even the sourced sites here so far have yet to list it on their world maps.

USGS is usually very prompt with their auto-email re: global earthquakes. I don't see anything yet, but will report details if it shows up. If not up within the next hour or two, I'd be inclined to doubt it.

BTW, I've not personally witnessed any data that indicates USGS fiddling with either the measurement parameters, nor the epicenter. Often the intial magnitude report is refined shortly thereafter, when it has been compared with other global seismographs.

How do you suscribe to the auto-email? I'd like to get in on that.

It's been so long that I subscribed, that it took me a while to figure out exactly where in the system I did so. Go to THIS page, and follow the subscription instructions. One word of caution: I have my parameters set to "global" as far as area of the epicenter, but I'm only notified of 'quakes 5.5 and above. I suspect that if you were to indicate ALL earthquakes of ALL magnitude, you'd spend the rest of your days deleting the emails.

Each email comes with a link to the USGS and other seismic agency maps and notification, as well as a link to tsunami alerts/warnings where applicable. The format looks like this:

Your "link" is wrong.

Go to the true seismic activity site:

Nice find, but did anyone bother to navigate back to the main page listing all the quakes? There's no listing for an 8.6 quake and nothing for the time stamp on the link you provided.

Something's not adding up here, and as another poster pointed out, if there really was an event that large, it would have registered on every earthquake monitoring system in the world.

The pervading idea in this thread that China could with hold something of this magnitude is beyond delusional.

Nothing showing up on the USGS site I frequent. But there was just one that occurred in Central Alaska with a ? magnitude. I've never seen them denote magnitude with a ? before.

That link above has removed the ? Alaska Quake. BUT, it's still listed here:

Hey, if true, it coincides with all I've been reading about Earth ascending.

Spiritually speaking, of course.

The sunken land masses of the ancient past are scheduled to be rising in the oceans... Atlantis and Lemuria.

I find it oddly striking that paying attention to these little disturbances is very VERY oddly similar to watching the uterus monitor during weak labor.

couldn't someone just call someone in china and ask them instead of scouring the internet and "confirming" it on foreign websites?

Now I don't think it happend but its just weird that a few different stations picked up on the earthquake independently. I don't know what could have caused this to happend.
