The conference has ended, hasn't it? Any news what they came up with, some conclusions or what the UN guy said in the last session ? Or is it still running?

I think a discussion of the implications of contact with extra-terrestial life is interesting from a sociological standpoint but let's get real. There is no disclosure coming... if anything this should prove that the chances of ever contacting an intelligent life form is so minimal, that its practically not worth even mentioning.

If we did meet an intelligent life-form, it would be so utterly different than anything like us... In other words it probably wont:

Fly a Space ship

Be interested in humanity (why bother?)

Little grey men are still practically human. Psychologically, its a pretty banal metaphor for our own fears of ourselves but thats beside the point. An alien life form evolving in a different galaxy, free from all the evolutionary cues we had, etc would be more different from us than a dog is from a mushroom. How could they communicate? They can't. We will never have disclosure because there is nothing to disclose. A world where UFOs are possible is a VERY different world then we live in. The sooner you accept this, the better your life will be. UFOlogy is a collossal waste of time.

Skeptic pesimistic people who are in denial and think how unique humanity is should be locked up in brainwashed US and A with the masses. No offence, but what you just wrote is a complete rubbish bloody nonsense. If you are serious, then i feel very sorry for your close-minded soul. Hopefully it escapes the box soon.

On the other hand, if you are some NWO disinfo agent, pi$$ on you!

Peace!

Just because people disagree with you doesn't mean that they are in denial. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and express it here on ATS. Stop calling people disinfo agents! It just makes you come off as desperate.

When we say ET or Aliens, why are we so close-minded to think of carbon-based, lifeforms similar to our own planet ? I really think our 'understanding' of life-forms are limited to what we have seen and studied here on earth.
There are trillions of galaxies and gazillions of planets those might have evolved in different ways than our earth did. And there might be weird , bizarre (for us) , life forms out there.
Saying LIFE doesn't exist anywhere, is like ancient men not knowing about infrared or ultraviolet rays. May be it is not Extra Terrestrial Life that does not exist, but our capability to understand and perceive them.

o k there blatently is alien life. Why would you rely on a system that has lied to us our entire existance to suddenly tell us there is life. All of a sudden we belive the system the majority hate. I dont care if they admit it or not coz i dont belive a word they say anyway

I'm watching it now but the cameras are a bit dodgy.... not really getting in on the photos... it's constantly focusing on the speaker and its a little boring.... not saying anything much which gives us any indication that there is life out there....

Then you and others who post such comments do not belong at ATS Aliens and UFO's forum.

This was discussed fairly recently with ATS Admin and it was clarified that posts such as yours are deemed to have no place at ATS, are worthy of deletion and the members who post them would not be tolerated here. You are obviously completely closed minded to the subject this forum was created to discuss and are only here as a heckler rather than a genuine, open minded participant.

As Springer said in response to my thread on this topic:

Those type are what the "ALERT" button is for. People who espouse such bollocks are not here to discuss and therefore will not be tolerated period. .

This is a discussion forum.

I would caution you that just because you think that's what somebody meant in a post isn't going to get their post removed.

They would literally have to be as crass as what you've written. If they do that, then the post is OFF TOPIC and will be removed if it is brought to the attention of the staff. ....

That's why the ALERT BUTTON exists...

Such posts are becoming more and more common at ATS, in contravention of the forum mission statement, and I encourage members to alert them, as Springer requested, in order to help reverse this trend of closed-minded, pseudo-skeptical debunkery that has come to dominate in this forum.

Very curious,indeed!

"Disclosure" is not something I'm looking forward to!

(Disclosure will be only what they want us to believe, for their own reasons.)

I agree with your last sentence "Disclosure will be only what they want us to believe" although I have to say I disagree on what youy say about Disclosure.

It's something I really am looking forward too although I understand completely that what will be told to the general public will be nothing more then 'a tiny part of what they can no longer hide'.

Not much will change in the information-stream I fear, not soon. That will problaby take another new generation of humans before that will change.

Don't forget that nowwadays there are billions of people who grew up with the idea of 'aliens' existing. In about 10 or 20 years there will be not much people on the planet who have never heard about aliens of ufo's

Peace!

I was sitting down for lunch today and read this in the news paper! =)

It's promising to see such an event take place in the public domain.

I hope there is a follow up story on the conclusions.

I think this may be the real deal.

I am convinced we will see George Adamski's name viewed in a whole new light.

Why?

Read his books. The 'aliens' are very human-like, he states their camera-shy nature was because they are here amongst us!

That's pretty far-out for the 50's

Also I read, the 'aliens' will disclose to us en-masse, ONLY when the peoples of Earth speak with one voice, which to me was a 1950's way of saying when we have a One World Government

We pretty much have that now.

Adamski's job was to plant ideas seeds. Alomg with other peers and the media, he did. His shortcomings were to allow just enough doubt and plausible deniability to prevent a panic.

Chuckle ye not...some very loud critics are going to eat humble pie over this I am sure.

Here are some conclusions from day one so far:

Scientists focus spotlight on aliens
(UKPA) – 15 hours ago

Extra-terrestrial life is coming under the microscope in London as scientists and academics discuss its possible effect on humanity.

The second day of the conference, organised by the Royal Society, the UK's national academy of science, will hear talks on human responses to extra-terrestrial life.

Lord Martin Rees, president of the Royal Society, will ask whether a microwave transmission from light years away will result in fear and pandemonium, or perhaps even delight.

Other speakers at the conference, entitled The Detection of Extra-terrestrial Life and the Consequences for Science and Society, will investigate the implications of the discovery of alien life for religion and theology. And the world's leading ET hunter, Dr Frank Drake, will discuss the ongoing search for beings from another realm.

Speaking on Monday, Dr Drake said satellite TV and the digital revolution was making humanity more and more invisible to inquisitive aliens on other planets.

Dr Drake, who founded the Seti (Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence) organisation in the US 50 years ago, said the digital age was effectively gagging the Earth by cutting the transmission of TV and radio signals into space.

At present, the Earth is surrounded by a 50 light year-wide "shell" of radiation from analogue TV, radio and radar transmissions. But although the signals had spread far enough to reach many nearby star systems, they were rapidly vanishing before the march of digital technology. Dr Drake said to a race of observing aliens, digital TV signals would look like noise.

Digital transmissions are also much weaker than their terrestrial equivalent. While old-style TV transmitters might generate one million watts, the power of a satellite signal was around 20 watts.

Satellites also aimed their transmissions at the Earth, with almost none being allowed to escape into space. Use of cable prevented the leakage of signals even more effectively.

Dr Drake said: "Now the actual amount of radiation escaping into space is about two watts, not much more than you get from a cell phone. If this continues into the future very soon our world will become undetectable."

I was not able to catch the conference on the webcast. I am not even sure if they even broadcast the actual conference.

However, they did broadcast a lecture after-words.
The topic was SETI, its history and future.

The speaker discussed the fact that we have not heard any activity with the SETI research. But, he also pointed out the fact that most of the 'targets' have been about 100,000 light years away.

100,000 light years away means that the 'target' that we are viewing is the representation of it from 100,000 years ago. This also means that the signals we are sending to these places will also take 100,000 years to reach their target.

So, with SETI, or any other traditional methods of transmitting radio frequencies, any form of 'intelligence' that might be sending us radio signals would have to of sent them 100,000 years ago in order for us to be receiving them now....

All of this information essentially concludes that SETI is NOT a waste of time. We have not seen any results yet simply because the technology does not permit it.

As I said before, this is just from a specific lecture that I viewed and not the actual 'conference'.

People sure are jumping to conclusions, however this conference does signify a big step.
