Well, I did see a program on this in the past. They talked about the possibility of plasma orbs , or some kind of electromagnetic phenomena being formed in the sky as a result of the tension in the earths plates prior to earthquakes.

No that is not it at all! Chris is in a video and he claims to be IN AREA 51. In AREA 51 is a "bunker" and he claims that ORBS were in it. So he shows a clip of the "ORBS" but from supposed Air Force footage not his. Watch the video. Chris was there regarding ALIENS at Area51 not earth quakes or even discussing anything having to do with earth quakes.

Ok, I never saw that video. I saw one from Roswell with him in it.

interestingly enough the small quakes that happen there to my understanding are actually what keeps it from being a super explosion every few thousand years. the increase is due to (from my understanding, not a professional geologist here) an upward surge of the magma bed below the mantle. the reason for concern lies in a number of things. number one the increase in frequency of events, and 2 the depth of the events being at the surface indicating instability at the surface. this (in my non geologist oppinion) is indticating fault fractures near the surface which is the weak link if you will that can allow the surging magma to break through the surface. the real concern will be when the earthquakes stop all together for an extended period of time, accompanied by a surge in height of the culdera above MSL would pretty much indicate it popping like a pimple....

Lot's of quakes in Alaska and major one elsewhere in the world. This is not normal activity.

Perfectly normal earthquaking going on right now in my opinion. Worldwide that is. The swarm at Yellowstone is very interesting but I am not changing my plans just yet. I prefer the USGS earthquake page over the RSOE page. The RSOE page seems alarmist and reeks of being overly promoted. RSOE need to improve for me to look for Yellowstone or any other information there.

I just watched the youtube video of this guy and, to me, he comes off as a quack. I'm a geologist by training and this guy just doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about. Some of the things he said just didn't make any sense. The guy just doesn't sound like a scientist to me. Those of you who have alot of experience in a profession know when somebody doesn't know what they're talking about. I'll just leave it at that.

My opinion on the recent earthquakes is that is probably geothermally related judging by the depth. The earthquakes seem to be pretty shallow. If if is geothermal activity, the real question is why? It might be related to changes in the magma chamber or it might just be some change in the geothermal system that has nothing to do with the magma chamber. Of course, I'm just postulating. Yellowstone is a very complicated system and the causes of the earthquake swarms could be due to any number of things. However, if I lived within spitting distance of there I would probably keep the gas tank in my vehicle full, just in case.

I would say they are off a bit but a least we can see what is going on worldwide.

if it was simply geothermal discontinuity in a certain layer then wouldnt the events be centralized at the approximate depth? latest activity coupled with an accelerating positive surge would suggest that while some of the events are geothermal, you cant count them all as such. interested in your proffesional response...

Thanks for the question. And just so everyone knows, I am in no way an expert on the Yellowstone caldera. To answer your question, yes and no. The geothermal system is extremely complicated and is not restricted to one layer. Plus, it's all interconnected, more or less, so any major changes would probably affect the whole system to one degree or another. Like I said before, these earthquakes could have a number of causes. But, I don't feel that they're indicative of a major eruption, because it's my personal opinion that a world changing eruption from a super volcano won't sneak up on anybody.

This is precisely what I have said before but so many fearmongerers did not like what I had to say.

As I see it...our Govt. is not in the buisness of preserving life and is doing the least to secure the well being of others. It is a very negligent Foster Parent. So when Mother Earth Blows...Wake up and smell the coffee or magma. Those that are informed will survive because they did NOT depend on our media to keep them informed. They trusted their instinct and prepared for what Uncle Sam has known for a while. YellowStone is OLD news but for the public it will be devastating. I am saddened again by our Govt. responce to such a Historic Event that may change the course of America as we know it.

i think if you are in the area, it is time you leave. and i also agree, you have been warned. you can not rely on the government. just look at new orleans and that tragedy. you have to rely on YOURSELF. ...and some plain old common sense...blessings all

I completely agree and for personal name sake (lol) i am in no way claiming to have expert knowledge, just the basics i learned while through some college. (meteorology here... not geology). another interesting note i have... well... noted.. is that amongst the plethera of faults and fractures there dont seem to be any events on the periphial lines of the system. does that not also strike you as odd? most events are near fishing bridge at the northern part of the lake, while te fault system near old faithful and west thumb remain quiet.

the only concern i have here is that there is no real data to coorelate with. for all we know this cluster of quakes could very well be the warning signs. i would just like for people to steer clear of the mind process of "it is too catastrophic to even really possibly happen and to say it is going to is just crazy" because it is that attitude that leads to shortcomings.

proper planning prevents piss poor performance!

This is not very high activity , however it is a LOT in comparation with the last several months of activity (they were way too quiet lately) . .. I am not sure if this is chained in any way with Yellowstone..

Yes Indonesia had some severe earthquakes. And it was proven that the aftershocks were felt at yellowstone as yellowstone picked it up.

However, I do not believe that all the other readings from the earlier days were caused by aftershocks of different earthquakes worldwide.

Like I said, it's probably some shallow geothermal thing. But I also said I'd keep the car gassed up, too! You know, just in case. Because you're right, this could be a build up to something bigger and this is the only indication that we get.
