All I can say on that one is just "Wow??" I guess

This is a quote by someone from another forum about the so called geologist.

Yep. Young and naive is how I'd describe him, with plenty of helpings of "full of himself". (Which is impressive coming from me!) What's that phrase? A little knowledge is a dangerous thing? He seems to have a slight grasp of the vocabulary, but hasn't quite mastered the way they interlace to create reality, yet.

And the 200 mile radius is just plain sad. Volcanoes, especially something like this, don't have "radius" evacuations, they evacuate parabolas. Maybe 50 miles on the upwind side, 100 miles on the N-S sides, and 200+ miles on the downwind side for something like yellowstone...and that'll just buy you a few hours till you can get others out of the way.

When it does go, the downwind fallout area is estimated to be 1000-1500 miles long, likely hitting chicago to one degree or another, and that's just the immediate landing area. Once that ash lands, cools, and gets picked up again, then we've got a real mess.

Oh well, he's trying...but the danger is folks will listen to a pinhead like this, realize he doesn't know WTF he's talking about, and ignore real geologists, if/when they give a warning. I have serious doubts on that warning coming, frankly, because of the huge effects of this, there might be some temptation by the govt to keep the panic under control and play dumb.

I totally agree with your first 2 statements however I think we need more raw data to decide if one should leave the immediate area. You can't just leave because you suspect something might go wrong anytime soon. I don't think eruption will take place instantly.

Fair enough. State opinion, that's good... I agree, shouldn't just get up and leave (and I doubt anyone from the area is going to... believe me, I'm a Wyoming Native... most land owners are stubborn around state)

There will be obvious warning signs before it goes off so until then we should watch and see.

See... I'm not trying to get into the argument here, but I've been following along these threads for a couple days (since page 5 of this one). You are gonna start digging yourself a hole here. You are no more qualified to make that statement than you believe this Chris guy is qualified to make that statement.

We get it, you think he's lying. Come back and just post every ten or so "I still think he's HOAXING" or something and you'll still be making the same point you have made several times already. People will read and will also question this guy, and that's fine. If he's a hoaxer, then expose him. Don't assume that because YOU feel that you have enough lack of info to condemn him that we all should just fall in line and not question you. We get it already. Please, let something constructive come forth from your computer... and preferrably more constructive than "Did you see this guy's video?!? He's obviously a hoaxer!" and the like.

I haven't posted much because I don't have much to add. I was enjoying this thread up until about the last 2 pages. Go start a new thread about how this guy is a hoaxer, if you feel that it deserves that much attention. For now, this thread should go back to assessing whether the suggested "Evacuation" is viable, crying wolf, etc. I, personally don't think it's any form of HOAX. Maybe jumping the gun, over excitement, or something, but not a hoax.

My 2 cents worth.

Even better. now not only are you declaring obvious warning signs will be present but now you are declaring that only individuals within 2 miles should have concern. Look, i am honestly not trying to hurt your feelings here... listen to this. you say he has no credibility and no grounds to declare what he has declared and thus he is a hoax. you do not have any information other than what you can and cannot find about thisperson on the internet and there fore you cannot take a for sure beyond the shadow of a doubt stance on whether or not he is qualified, and in making your points i do not think that you should be making specific statements like "there will be warning signs" and "unless you live within 2 miles" otherwise you are opening yourself up to the same ridicule that you are giving this individual. We get that you do not believe he is qualified. I got that loud and crystal clear.... do yourself and me a favor and agree to disagree? just saying...

The geologist, Christopher Sanders is from the Department of Geology at the Arizona State University, in Tempe. This is a link to a paper that he had published about earthquakes in 1994. I agree that the video is dramatic, but he is concerned, and wants people to take notice, and take him seriously. Geologists don't necessarily = good public speakers. www.agu.org...
Keep this topic alive, the media isn't. I'm not a member of your forum, but I'm sure that you know that there are lots of us lurkers out there from other forums, trying to piece this whole event together.

I'm glad you found that info. I want to add that I think he does a very good job presenting himself and speaking on video. There was not a lot of edits so he did a great on the fly job. Also, the sound quality would have been better with a remote microphone, but still not bad for on board audio. People do not realize how difficult it is to put together videos like this and make them effective. I say this from the point of view of having professional experience. I also think he's burning up some dollars to make them. The Roswell video he made for example. Travelling around the country doing this sort of thing is costly. I give the guy a lot of credit for what he has produced. He appears to me a multi talented individual with above average intelligence.

There has been far too much negative energy aimed at discrediting the guy without any facts to back it up.

Okay....this is the last time I'm going to post this for those who lost track.

This snippet is page one from the OP.

"I am advising all State officials around Yellowstone National Park for a potential State of Emergency. In the last week over 300 earthquakes have been observed by the USGS. We have a 3D view on the movement of magma rising underground. We have all of the pre warning signs of a major eruption from a super volcano.

Please take note:

He said....."I am "ADVISING" all State officials around Yellowstone National Park for a Potential State of Emergency.

He doesn't give a time or date like some other gloom and doomsayers.

In his professional (which is debatable) opinion, he is going to ADVISE....meaning give his opinion to state officials of a POTENTIAL state of emergency.

Is he a hoax? I don't know. No one knows for sure.

Is he credible? I don't know. No one knows for sure.

But to call the guy a hoax because he want to ADVISE of a possible emergency is in my book, is very silly.

I am not for this, or against this. I am on the fence.

I could not understand why people started this hoax nonsense. How can it be a hoax when we all know there has been 400 or more quakes since december 25th? Most of them under the lake. He says in the video that we have all the signs....and we do. There is unusual uplifiting rates already documented since 2006.

Can I guarantee that it is "authentic"? Nope...but I am just relaying what it says.

Sure it is impossible to guess when the actual eruption will occur... and if you are that concerned about packing up every time the Earth rumbles the area you should probably not live there.

HOWEVER while this 'geologist' may or may not be real, 'expert' opinions like yours above are equally misleading and dangerous.

YOU don't THINK it will be instantaneous....
There will PROBABLY be OBVIOUS warning signs...

Well here is the Mt St Helen eruption... and this was a tiny one by comparison

At 8:32 a.m. on May 18, 1980, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck under Mt. St. Helens. Within ten seconds, the bulge and surrounding area fell away in a gigantic, rock avalanche. The avalanche created a gap in the mountain, allowing the release of pent-up pressure that erupted laterally in a huge blast of pumice and ash. The noise from the blast was heard as far away as Montana and California; however, those close to Mt. St. Helens reported hearing nothing.

The avalanche, huge to begin with, quickly grew in size as it crashed down the mountain, traveling around 70 to 150 miles per hour and destroying everything in its path. The blast of pumice and ash traveled northward at 300 miles per hour and was a raging hot 660° F (350° C). The blast killed everything in a 200-square mile area. Within ten minutes the plume of ash had reached 10 miles high. The eruption lasted nine hours.

I saw that earlier and the first impression I got was that he was trying to act like it was an official statement, to induce panic, and direct traffic to his web-site

Note to self... *NEVER* put a video on utube! (without scanned original copies of my credentials, a statement from my thesis advisor, and a letter from my mom)

Peace

Well, I am not saying it is or isn't a hoax. Probably is....but who knows.

All I am pointing out here is.....weather I agree with him or not....all he is doing is advising...not giving a time or date or anything like that. And most likely, the authorities won't believe him either. People should just read the facts instead of making things up that is in clear writing on their screen.

Again...I am not saying he is right or wrong.

It's IRONIC how you claim to have all this professional experience in video editing YET you did not even realize this video was made at least 2 month ago. And no his video compilation is nothing but consumer level. He is using stereo microphone and I small canon hd camcorder.

Ok, we got your message about 10 of your posts ago, like you are stuck in a feed back loop or something. I think we know where you stand.

Just like you are stuck in your feedback loop guessing if this geologist is real or not.

What on earth are you talking about? I never questioned if he was real or not....never made one post questioning him. You are the one doing that.
I'm beginning to suspect you are sitting at home drinking and looking to cause some hate and discontent by spreading your negativity.

A few people have told you to give it a rest. So give it a rest. Take a hint.

I am in Casper WY and have no intentions of evacuating. If anything I wish I could take a sled trip into the park to check things out. The states outside of "the danger zone" do not have the capacity to house all the evacuees. Without the oil, natural gas and coal extracted from Wyoming the countries industry would grind to a halt. A premature evacuation would cause massive damage. I'm staying put until I see glowing lava.

Oh my...I must really be tired.

This Resonse is meant for stanislav (not TARBOX):
So now you are going to put me down? You have serious issues guy. You are the most negative person I have seen on ATS so far. Does it make you feel elevated when you put down other people? It must, otherwise you would not do it. But you need to do it because deep down you know you are really not all that intelligent and by putting others down it makes you feel better about yourself in some sick way.
