I'm going to try to get up there next weekend! My guess is the best time for fall foliage will be towards the middle of September. The fall season in Wyoming is pretty brief because it gets cold and moves into Winter very early out here. Mostly evergreens up there I think, but there still should be some deciduous trees that will blaze into yellow and red at least for a couple of weeks.

This thread is for the discussion of what's happening at Yellowstone.

All members are welcome, but only if they behave according to the Terms And Conditions Of Use.

New members are as welcome as older ones, and the older ones should remember that they were new once and, as they are reminded whenever they make a post, as experienced contributors to ATS should be an example to our newer members and make every post count. New members should remember that, being on a new place, they may not be familiar with all that has happened here.

This thread is not a private club for some members but, as an extremely long thread and somewhat technical thread (sometimes too much), it's not the place to just post something without supporting facts either, although all theories are welcome.

If something looks like leading to nowhere it should be left for another time, when new information connected to that something appears, keeping back and forth about it without new data is useless and only blocks the discussion.

As many posts have been already removed as off-topic, persistence in making off-topic posts will probably lead to those posts being removed, with further actions taken against that poster.

The topic is "What's happening at Yellowstone", so keep on topic.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Anmarie, I have been to Yellowstone twice, but always brief. My family is planning on spending several days there this summer, on our way through to Nebraska. I've always gone in the summer time, which is best for me just because you don't have to worry about the weather.

I'm planning on taking hundreds of pics, so I'm going to hit all the 'hot' spots and take some long hikes. Also, just an FYI, you can do some white river rafting on the Snake river out of Jackson Hole, which is a fun place. (white water rafting has become a vacation tradition with us lately
)

I'll be sure to let you all know when I'm going, and I'll hold a sign up in front of the old faithful cam!!

With all due respect, this had nothing to due with a rift between new members and old members. I'll give all new members a kiss when the first visit.

For all of you that have endured a long harsh winter, (i wonder if that's what's making everyone buggy), in Yellowstone National Park there are signs of spring. I'm always watching the animals for warning signs that Yellowstone may erupt. But for the moment, the animals are telling us the worst is over, and soon the sun will be blazing. The bears are emerging.

Alright folks... I'm posting this in a few different threads, as I believe it is relevant and important to share. So if you see it here, and then another, you were warned. LOL

Considering how gigantic Yellowstone is and the volcanic activity in this region particularly, I am sharing this article I just discovered.

A magma chamber is a large reservoir of molten rock (magma) located several kilometers beneath a volcano, which it feeds with magma. But what happens to the magma chamber when the volcano is not erupting? According to volcanologists, it cools down to an extremely viscous mush until fresh magma from deep inside Earth 'reawakens' it, in other words fluidizes it by heating it through thermal contact.

I follow only a few threads on ATS. Yellowstone being one, Arkansas thread being another. I just happened to get a glimpse of a Nikola Tesla Thread going and decided to read some of the information about him and inventions.. Maybe I'm getting a bit off topic, but here's the thought provoker:

Sorry if it has been brought up and spoken about.. I have only read through 125+- pages of this thread.

Tesla performed his first experiments with resonance technology at his New York laboratory by firing up a small oscillator, which caused a minor amount of vibration. Suddenly, an alarmed squad of police officers stormed into the lab, demanding that Tesla stop at once. Manhattan was shaking for miles around. Tesla had not taken into account how resonance waves grow stronger the further they travel from their source. He had unintentionally created what became known as Tesla's earthquake machine.

Well this definately is on topic. But it's so important and current, I decided to start a new thread. It's less likely I will have posts removed on a thread I start.

It's called

KEEP YOUR FRACKING HANDS OFF MY YELLOWSTONE!!

Gas companies plan to drill on Yellowstone's Doorstep.

They're encrouching ever closer to the park and want to set up shop near Jackson.

I know how John Colter must have felt. When he told people of what he had seen, he was thought to be mad.

"In 1806, John Colter, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, left to join a group of fur trappers. After splitting up with the other trappers in 1807, Colter passed through a portion of what later became the park, during the winter of 1807–1808. He observed at least one geothermal area in the northeastern section of the park, near Tower Fall.[11] After surviving wounds he suffered in a battle with members of the Crow and Blackfoot tribes in 1809, he gave a description of a place of "fire and brimstone" that was dismissed by most people as delirium. The supposedly imaginary place was nicknamed "Colter's Hell". Over the next forty years, numerous reports from mountain men and trappers told of boiling mud, steaming rivers and petrified trees, yet most of these reports were believed at the time to be myth."

There is always some truth in a myth or delusion. And sometimes the most unbelievable stories are completely true.

well after seeing the current version of what is there,.
I could believe every word (in a slightly calmer version).
I can only imagine what it must have been like to view it through
an uneducated eye.

Although the area within the park seems stable, there's some action outside the park. The whole Yellowstone region is fascinating and there is geology happening everywhere. One day I hope to visit. Sure I'll visit the geysers. But what I really want to do is get up on top of the caldera so I can see the entire gaping hole.

Last year, I mentioned on this Thread that Yellowstone appears to talk to us. She is a very good indication of things to come. She gives us warning and also talks back to Alaska. Please see my prior post on this page, notice the day.... She gave us a 15 +/- hour warning. Can't pull of the instruments for the10th here at the moment - what's up with that?

For some reason, I pay the most attention to Mary Lake and Soda Butte. They seem to be on the more stressed areas and possibly the weaker links. YSB is still getting those weird signatures. YMR got a double tap late last night-

YSB seems to always have something wrong with it. I did notice the pings you mentioned on YMR.

Still eeirly quiet though. Kinda like this thread now. Spooky.

People are a lot like earthquakes. Sometimes lots of noise and excitement, followed by long quiet periods. The media is like an earthquake signature. Massive interest and buzz, then when they're bored, it gets quiet with only a few mentions of the big shake up.

I have a link for a study on that.

I'm just curious.

What WOULD you expect a government official to do if they were told not to say anything? They have their families and themselves to think about.

Remember the government official that was killed just recently? The WMD expert who made a little too free with information he knew.

If something WAS going to happen at YS, knowing that a lot of people check in with the instrumentation daily, and some people that belong to a big web forum have developed a relationship with officials connected to YS, don't you think that all avenues of information could be controlled if necessary?

Do you think if officials have been told, keep quiet about this til we figure it out, that they would tell anyone here, as a favor?

I'm sure the software on those machines that monitor the information could have some kind of programing added that would obscure any frightening information from being released.

I'm sure I've see instances on this thread where people were all up in arms and questioning why certain monitoring stations were unavailable.

I don't think some official is going to confirm to ATS if something is building up at YS, especially if they have been told not to.

There is just something wrong with the station. Or an emgering bear is using it to wear down the growth of it's claws. Kidding.

None of the stations show anything that corresponds. There was one tiny quake in the park today. And a couple yesterday I think. It's quiet. Still quiet.

Maybe when the sun's rays start to cause a rapid thaw, then maybe something will crackle.

I totally agree with you Annmarie! I call Yellowstone my 'little' sponge!

However I would like to say that I have posted on other threads here that there is something happening over there. Just before the quake hit Japan, Yellowstone was forming a pattern. I was taught at University that the only thing you can be certain of with EQ tremmors around volcanoes is PATTERN. If there is a pattern forming in the readings then SOMETHING is about to happen....as to what....hang on to your hat!

As I said a pattern was formed (note not forming but FORMED) for about 4 days before Japan got hit. When Japan hit Yellowstone seismic charts went potty at the same time. As of yesterday, the same pattern is formING. Also Norris is showing some pretty strong activity, which is the only anomaly in the pattern. I look at University of Utah seismic reports as they directly link back to USGS.

quake.utah.edu...

Norris has been off line since the 27th February. It came on yesterday just in time to catch the 7+ that hit Japan again (15th) At first I thought it was maybe re-calibrating, but it is not, as it recorded the same seismic activity that occured all over the park (20 stations) at 4.15am UTC (16th). My daughter showed me how to take a 'snapshot' of web pages last night, but I have no idea how to put it up on here to show you. EDIT Aha see shakai posting with link above!

All I want to say is that something big ie EQ is going to happen somewhere within the next 48 hrs.
