Robin, ask yourself this question. Are you a masochist?

Yes, yes I am. Why else would do keep trying?

How dare you have ideas about the way the world works? You haven't a degree and letters behind your name.

How true. A layman can't understand the full complexity of any scientific field, and amatuers cannot have original ideas or make discoveries. (David Levy didn't deserve to have those comets named after him, he barely got through his literature coarse. And Wallace, he only went to school until he was thirteen. His only credential was the fact he could read. How dare he independantly proprose a theory that animals changed over time. What gall he had to ask Darwin to publish his paper. If Wallace had known his place, he would have never wrote to Darwin and this would have allowed Darwin to continue to procrastinate and delay his theory until he had it perfect, and until he could over-come his fear of the church. If Wallace hadn't written Darwin when he did, how many years would have it took Darwin to publish. Maybe Darwin waits until near his death to realease his Origin of Species)

Here's a novel idea. I'm going to give my opinion on this opinion website that we have here before us. I think, maybe, just maybe, the series of quakes at Yellowstone, in the hours before the 7.2, were precursory. Maybe.

Hey are you sure that's alright to say?

Sometimes nothing satisfies some people.

I completely rest my case. Inane diatribe: Check. Self-delusion: Check.

Here, ladies and gentlemen, is a textbook case of "I read something on the internet, therefore I am an expert."

You compare yourself to respected names just because you're both, what, people?
Are you serious?

And precursory earthquakes to a 7.2 in Northern Mexico? In Yellowstone?

Excuse me while I disregard everything you'll ever say.

I couldn't agree with you more Robin. I may not agree with everything you have said on this site, but that is beside the point. I have enjoyed many of your posts and ideas and this is one of the reasons I come to this website...not to bash other for posting these ideas.

Anyways....I just got back from work and it was KILLING me to not be able to observe with by my 'normal' means or post anything here.

The yellowstone seismos are CRAZY! How can anyone look at those and try to argue that it isn't affected in some way? I just don't believe in coincidences and I see some definate patterns emerging between Yellowstone activity and large quakes around the world. Makes perfect sense to me.

Based on those patterns, I expect to see a definate jump in activity now and possibly another significant swarm, especially wth the 7.2 being so much closer. I also expect to see larger quakes continuing to make their way up the coast. Scientific? Naw...just my hunch, based on past observations!

SO....I think there's gonna be a 3.0 mag range in Yellowstone sometime tonight or early morning...not a prediction, just a hunch. Nope, not scientific AT ALL...

Hi Robin, I hope all is well with you, it's been a little while. On your comment about what's been going on yesterday and today about:

precursory earthquakes to a 7.2 in Northern Mexico? In Yellowstone?

I have noticed these events and posted here on just such things - yellowstone seems to either sound off prior or react after larger quakes.

WHAT patterns? Those were p-waves from the 7.2 and the 5.1!

They were picked up on every seismogram in the country, at the very least and it hasn't effected anything at Yellowstone.

The only precursors to that quake were the various 3.0+ in that area the past few days.

You people will grasp any inane idea and try to make it fit.

Pseudo-science at it's best.

Really? Nothing happened before or after the Chilean 8.8, other than Yellowstone picking up the quake in Japan.

Ya know, I had the displeasure of reading your posts today but was unable to respond (I was at work).

So, let me make sure I got this. You registered today just so you could come on here and bash people that have been posting since the begining?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving an opinion, especially here at ATS, kinda what it's all about. I feel like I'm defending a friend only because I have gotten so used to reading the different posters here. I appreciate their creative, sometimes 'out there' thoughts and ideas. It's one of the reasons I come here in addition to all the wonderful scientific based info I have gotten from other posters.

How dare you come on here and throw around your insults. If you want to give an opinion, or disagree, you can do so without being nasty or personal. If you do not like this thread, than move on. Please.

SO, just one last thing: Excuse me while I disregard everything YOU say.

Uh....once again, an example of how someone coming on here and 'inserting' an aggressive negative opinion towards people that have been here posting on this subject for over a year.

I was referring to patterns of the past YEARS genius.

I agree also. I may not post much, but I have avidly read just about every post on this thread. Some of the information, I admit, is WAY over my head, but it is slowly sinking in if nothing else then thru osmosis. I have learned a lot here on this thread, most importantly have learned that we get the most pertinant information thru combined efforts and courteous "differing opinions".

Show me ONE earthquake other than in Alaska that has had an effect on Yellowstone's seismic activity. Please.

Continuing on posting something for a year doesn't necessarily make you MORE knowledgeable, just more susceptible to other people's opinions on a scientific matter.

Cute that you think you have more of a right to post here than I do, just because you've been here longer.

Looks like someone doesn't like someone else disagreeing in a non-polite way.

If you think this bitch is going to blow anytime soon, that's your misfortune and misinformation, given the legitimate science. But, to each his own.

I have read 550 pages of this thread over the last 6 months. During the last swarm, Robin was on top of everything along with various others who kept us all well informed daily. He might not be a "professional" (however you want to define that), but he has been studying this for a really long time and knows a hell of a lot more than you think he does and more than you will probably ever know.

Try reading the whole thread before you bash one of the smartest ones on this thread!!!!!

This earthquake today just might very well have an effect on Yellowstone.....

Smart and self-diluted are synonymous now?

I've read all of his posts.

90% of them make no sense and the other 10% are pure speculation about some # like the moon and autism and him not being recognized for his so called "discovery" of a link between earthquakes and the moon, despite there being no legitimate connection, even after studies.

Or something "might" happen "sometime." No #.

i for one know when to keep quiet about peoples opinions but i have never downright signed on to a web site such as ATS just to insult somebodys elses opinion which have been proven right so far .

iv been on this thread since the begining almost since it was started . so id like to hope my opinions and thoughts on the subject along with my fears wont be disregarded as nonsence .

yes we all know that some day YS will blow her top again , exactly when that will be NO BODY KNOWS NOT EVEN THE GUYS AT YVO .

what exactly are the warning signs we d like to think its the usual signs prior to a volcanic eruption but taking into account the size of YS that is rather hard to do even for the pros .

so thats my peace of mind over and out for now .

I don't HAVE to show you anything. I could spend several hours going through info and pulling out the data I am talking about, but I could really care less if you agree with me or not. It's your choice.

I never claimed to be a professional, or to even be right about it. It is simply my opinion based on my constant, years long observation on the cause and affect of various quakes around the world interacting with Yellowstone.

Anyone can post here, it's a matter of being rude. I don't like rude people.

If you were to have read all my past posts you would realize you are far off the mark.

EDIT TO ADD: could we please get back on topic now?

I meant scientific data, not opinions of people on this board.

A simple google search would be able to pull some of this "info" up.

Haha, I was wrong, you people are just as bad as the morons on GLP.

Also, i'm not saying the quake today COULDN'T have an effect, but precursory events IN Yellowstone to something in Mexico?

Show me the scientific data on that one.

Even the experts can only guess about Yellowstone. This thread has been professional throughout and I dont appreciate you trying to derail and start fights. Start another thread about it and leave this one alone. Oh thats right, you only joined today. Im done with you now.

Yellowstone is a monster that will someday blow and I appreciate everyones ideas about what is going on with it. Thank you all for staying on top of it and keeping us lurkers well informed...

Dear Citizen,

Let's debate. We'll stick to a very narrow topic in each reply. You may start and tell me where I'm wrong and why?

First I'd like to know whether or not I'm debating a professional.
Are you a geologist or scientist? Or what's your general area of expertise in your work?

I graduated highschool and have no formal training. I've been a farmer, soldier, delilvery driver, dispatcher and worked in a factory. I love fishing. One day I hope to finish my novel, The Little Shaman. An adventure set in prehistoric times during the super eruption at Toba. An eruption that almost casued the extinction of the human race some 70 000 years ago.

Yellowstone's last lava flow was some 70 000 years ago.

Had to edit. I don't believe you've read all my posts. Maybe you could start by giving your opinion relating to Sodom and Gomorrah's destruction which I presented here. What was the most outlandship thing I wrote?

Yesterday I wanted to come on here and write that there was going to be an eruption at Yellowstone soon. But I had no reason to say that other than it was purely a gut reaction. I thought, since my predictions were based on observation of the moon and sun's orbits I don't want to come out here and make a baseless statement. But if I wanted to, I could have come out here and said that. Why the hell not. It's my opinion. And I'll kill and die to keep it that way. Nothing is more sacred to me that free speech. I also speak out even when I am harmed by what is said. If it's the truth, damn the consequences. At first I was content to counter your points with information and respect. But it was soon evident that your tone was derogatory and arrogant. Hell, I'll try again and if you're up to it, pick a subject and I'll try to make sense.

Maybe I shouldn't of ignored you and went off on a historical tangent about Wallace. But he's my hero. And yes I'll compare myself to Wallace and Darwin, and all those that went before me and did great things. We are almost carbon copies of one another. 70 000 years ago there was a bottle neck in our population which means we all have very similiar DNA. And if you study history, all innovations are not one person. Each innovation has been built upon the last over thousands of years. Watch James Burke's Connections series. Brilliant.

And the caldera is undulating. I mean simply, that the caldera is not moving up and down in a unified manner. The GPS shows that the recent trend is wave like. After the Lake Swarm, there was some subsidence, and then it reversed and the uplift began. But some parts of the park didn't not stop subsiding at all. Others leveled off. From that mix it's hard to say anything conclusive other than the uplift has slowed. And appears to be in a state of flux.

And yes I believe I know where the next super eruption will happen. The north end of the lake, along the river over to Sour Creek dome. Where the caldera from the Huckleberry Ridge eruption and Sour Creek dome intersect.

Well, I'll let you decide the topic now.

I have been following this thread since the very beginning, and although I have only posted once or twice before, I really never miss staying up-to-date with the postings on "What's going on at Yellowstone?".

I value the research that has been collected and posted here by so many dedicated individuals. This thread has become a resource for anyone interested in Yellowstone - thanks to some truly brilliant, hard-working, and creative thinkers. Individuals here have posted objective research and data, and their own subjective ideas since the very beginning. Speculation, both sound and "inane", has always been welcome! That's what makes this thread so engaging!

Now... I don't know if you are trying to compensate for some type of congenital "shortcoming", or if you are just a super-angry person who has never learned how to respect others. Regardless, I think it would be a good idea if you moved along to a scientific thread that meets your superior standards.

We don't want to hold you back.

To all,
Let's completely ignore this loser. Keep up the great work
