looks like we got a swarm folks

A quake of magnitude 3, a few days ago, can occur even without an earthquake swarm.

But two of these earthquakes !?!?!??

I believe that the Yellowstone will erupt this year, he's much too busy and too active.

Yup, a 3.0 at around 0800 local time. I would have been suprised if it didn't happen. Like I said before, it's all about patterns. Nature is full of them; weather works in cycles and I think if you step back far enough you will always see some sort of pattern with geology too.

I find it extremely interesting that we are currently in a solar storm. CHART

TrueAmerican:

I haven't spent too much time watching the live feed for Old Faithful (I'm not patient enough), so I'm not sure what would be considered 'normal'. Are you curious because there seems to be constant venting going on rather than a regular 'erruption'? That's kinda what it looks like to me. If it is, I would say it most definately warrants close observation. I think of it as the pulse of the caldera....when Old Faithful speaks, ALL should listen.

i doubt it,,,, the quakes would have to be much larger then they currently are .

add, major uplift, disruptions of the gysers ect . for now its just being normal

It almost looks like wind except for that none of the other stations are showing it. It also looks like a constant, low steam venting....perhaps reflecting what the live-stream video is currently showing?

live feed

Edit to add: for those not familiar with the park/seismos the one in question is located at Old Faithful and records the steam erruptions.

System malfunction. I have seen this happen many times.

Judging from the weather report I'd expect we'll see a bunch of wind on the webicorders today.

"Breezy. Numerous snow showers. New snow accumulation of 3 to 4 inches. Highs 27 to 33. Southeast winds around 15 mph shifting to the southwest late in the afternoon. Chance of snow 70 percent."

www.wunderground.com...

Interesting to watch the volcano "talk" about what's happening in So Cal, as it seemed to do before/after the Haiti quake. If we don't see an increase in magnitude and frequency though I think "interesting" is about all it is.

I see nothing wrong with that recorder. I don't see any malfunction either.

What are you seeing that makes you say that?

I am going to assume that you did not click the link? and that you are using your awesome software with direct tie in's?

No I clicked the link, but I see what the problem is. The plot has moved on and the area you were talking about has gone off screen.

I can see it on the HHZ plot. YFT.WY..HHZ.2010.095

This is what I am seeing:
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/f197c6721dd5.gif[/atsimg]

and that looks pretty normal to me.

If you are talking about the period of time starting around 6:00 local time,
or 13:00 UTC, I believe it is mostly man made noises. I downloaded the
SAC files for YFT first from 13:00 to 18:00 UTC and then later from
14:50 to 18:40 UTC and using PuterMan's program converted them to audio.
Because of the 3.0 quake that occurred in the first download I could barely
hear anything but the quake, because of its huge amplitude. So I started
right after the quake and got a more useful recording. It is the most assorted batch of all kinds of different sounds that I have yet heard from
the seismometers.

For some reason I have lost the ability to upload sounds to ATS, or I would
put up a sample.

I'm so glad you noticed (& posted) too! I thought I was losing it and figured it was from lack of sleep or computer messing up!!!

The data from the HHE, HHN and HHZ channels at YMR are also stuck in the same place.

I would watch YMC to see what's going on in the area. Being a bit further away from the action it tends to be a clearer indicator of what's really significant, anyway.

You can see that between 22:08 and 22:09 there was a small local event, but other than that it's been pretty calm since the larger quake this morning.

So right now on the LIVE FEED for Old Faithful the camera is panning around the whole area and I'm telling you it looks like every possible crack in that place is putting out a whole lot of steam.

Anyone seen it like this before??

EDIT TO ADD: The steam erruption the camera is on right now, is not old faithful, but an area back into the tree line. Looks impressive.

Is the cam usually that active - as in does it always pan around like that??

Wierd quake signature right now on PB944 and H17A. Barely showed up on PB207. Looks almost like four sharp, quick quakes all together, probabably around 1.0 or so.

Should show up best on Little west thumb, based on where those seismos are located. Different location than the recent quakes.
