Agreed that it is unusual activity, I have been monitoring for over 2 years now, first one that size and/or depth that I have seen. It may not mean anything, but given that there have been swarms since January of this year, I would think this is related. However unless you hear the term 'harmonic' there will be no warnings or evacuations.

Doubt that's a 2.5, would've been automatically recorded.

You're right, it must not have been that big. I haven't seen any decent sized quakes on GEE in awhile, I've gotten rusty at guessing!

I still think it was in the 2.0 range...guess we'll find out Monday. It does tell me though that the show for tonight isn't over yet.

You've been watching for 2 years and you've never seen a 3.2?

Yellowstone can have multiple 2-3+ magnitude earthquakes in a year and have it not be associated with a swarm.

May I be the first to congratulate you guys?

Happy 600th Page!!!

I lurk a lot on this thread, and I love knowing someone besides the gubmint is watching this beast of a caldera!!! Keep up the good work.

Notice the depth uncertainty +/- 10.1 Miles
the same was true for last nights 2.4 shallow quake.
I thought something might show up in the offsets on the PB
instruments before and after, but if it did it is very small compared
to the tidal changes.

The two quakes were quite close to each other in location.

I hope there is some kind of official report.

yes there were several and bigger... think there might be an differance between an 6.0 at 30 km depth ore the smaller one on 0 km ...that would mean an landslide ore an crack in the surface...anyway we learned a lot here about EQ's in the 600 pages.. that makes it worth to monitoring this thread..:-)

BTW..looking the location at google maps it seems located on the foot of an circulair ridge... an agient vent-shaft of the caldera???

It appears something is stirring again, and it looks like closest to PB.B207. Two small events just hit the park about 10 minutes ago. Showing up on almost all stations. But no updates on the UoU page yet.

I personally think that this belongs to the earthquake swarm, because it is in the same depth and at the same place. People, it's not over, it's only now really going on...

The swarm is not over yet, he's only become weaker, but I think that now is the final phase of the swarm.

Well, I'm looking at the EQ's rolling across the screen on GEE and I think it's getting to the point where someone has to say it:

Has a NEW swarm begun?!!

The depth/location of these newest quakes is a little concerning! OH...and can anyone say "double-tap quakes"? They're baaaaaaaacccckkkkk.

As I commented on the QW thread, I am a little concerned at this activity in the area of the previous swarm

I can't say that I accept that the previous one never finished. We shall just have to keep any eye on it.

Happy Easter

What do you make of those two squirrly signatures in between the last two quakes? At about 1450 and 1520 here

Just some local noise?

I enjoyed the video, thanks for putting up the link.

I wonder what kind of mathematics are involved in this!

Why no significant red quakes, as of 16:00 UTC?

Mm, nice one that. I note the recorder is very sensitive - only set at 125mV. I guess they are local some distance away, possibly even the geysers?

I will put the data and see what it sounds like.

Oh my, just look at that plot on the HHZ channel! YMR.WY..HHZ.2010.094

Note that on this one those events are hardly visible at all and a re definitely in my opinion small local distant events.

There is a few similar events on the third as well.

I've got too much in my head. Been watching James Burke's Connections. So I've got to dump a load. Probably because I'm a freak, I love everything wierd. I gravitate to things that are retarded, mutant, twisted, or strange. That's why I ended up obsessing about Yellowstone. I'll get back to the odd stuff after I make a serious point. This all part of the same swarm. The swarm I predicted. If this current manifestation of the chamber is 640 000 years old, then a pause several weeks is only a fraction of a second in geological time. The volcano's breathing (uplift, subsidence) is measured in decades, so this coughing cannot be divided up and claimed to be from a different cold bug. Even the swarm from last year cannot be considered in isolation.

Now for the mental retching.

Why do the swarms always start on the weekends and on holidays?
Is the volcano shy, and doesn't like it when the geologists are working and watching intently?
Or is it like a disobedient child, acting out when the parent is distracted? Knowing everyone's on holiday, the volcano is piling up the work on the geologists desk so that they'll be backlogged when they return to work.

And what's with the timing of this volcano? Is it saying something by resurrecting on this particular weekend. I'm not a Christian, but isn't is strange this swarm decides to rise again on Easter Sunday? Does the volcano have a Messiah complex?

And why can't I declare a eruption may be immenient?
Magma could be oozing up to the surface at this very moment. There could even be a small lava flow starting to emerge from the ground. Yellowstone could erupt at any moment. Not all eruptions are catastrophic. I'm enjoying the webcam from the volcano in Iceland that's erupting.

I'll edit myself and try to stop now. I really want to go on at length about predictions( me, the Italian guy, and toads). I wish I could rant about the Little Ice Age, evolution, innovation, and connections, but what's the point. Really. Now I will go. I'm starting to digress and soon will be pouting and whining like the immature man-child I am. (friggin' scientists are givin' damn toads more credit than.... everything is under control, I'm choking him, won't be long now...)
