A cute little bump at LKWY at 5:10 MST..

Time for bed... I'll get the hang of this someday..

Hx3, noticed the same time you did.. This stuff will get you hooked...

Yes, it is addicting.

I'm thinking we'll see a rise in activity again with that big of a bump.

I'm holding my fingers back from responding and annoying those of us who are using a method of inquiry based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to the principles of reason, regarding what's going on at Yellowstone.

If you want to flame science, please start a new post and have at it. I'll be glad to participate.

Meanwhile, I'll consider the uplift, tilt, heat signature, increased EQ activity and EQ progression, as well as venting at Yellowstone as evidence of volcanic activity indicating an eruption.

At this time, there is nothing warranted in screaming OMG or OHNO.

Science is new religion...and mocking everyone who does not accept this new religion is a part of it. Sheeply like to feel safe and accept all postulates of so called "science", it makes them feel they belong...and makes them feel smart.

I like an honest mistake when trying to think independently more than fifty guys repeating stuff from outdated books and feeling superior because they can repeat "scientific" facts.

Dare to think! Not te repeat what they tought you at school, or through media. Think!

I have to agree with startx.jeff on this one. Take your inane comments somewhere else.

The guys and gals on this thread are doing a good job and are NOT, if you bothered to look, just quoting books. There is a good deal of research and learning going on here, and whilst we are all for the most part amateur seismologists, I for one can see the standards rising as people get more and more understanding.

I have not noticed anyone on this thread displaying a 'superior' air, and I would be the first to slap them down if I did.

I have not, in this whole thread, seen one comment from you that was justified. I for one shall be using the ignore button, so you need not bother to reply.

Back to topic:

Is it me or do the helicorders for YS seem to be tuned to far one way or another? I was looking for the data for the 6.8 ringing and it's not as pronounced as the stuff from last week.

Back on the last page I posted a external link to what GEE picked up on that ringing...but your right the other displays barely registering it...but to be fair LKWY is set to 500m...pretty high...must be to dampen all that world wide activity...i noticed they put ~M0.5-M1.2 in the Yellowstone List and now their gone soooo....

Well now a M3.9 in Cali so lets watch fer it...so how those displays act set so high now...

Discovery Channel

nahh i could tame the older feller, scalar wave energy bottles disintigrate any matter they come into contact with when they explode ,thus all you have to do is create micro scalar wave energy bottles half a kilometer inside the magma chmaber and vapourise the molten rock into electromagnetic energy.
micro is important as you dont want large explosions going of and destablising the system, initially.
you could cause pulsed scalar wave energy bottles say 5 a second each vapourising a few cubic metres innitaily each and then ramp up the strength and size of the bottles.

of course it will lead to an increase in pressure for a while but once the magma levels start dropping the pressure of the overall magma system will drop and then you can go at it like hammer and tong!

scalar waves can travel through the entire earth so its not a problem reaching a half a kilo, you just get two beams to meet a few times a second to explode a few times a second.

within a year the old timer will be tamed!!!!

but hey whos listening? all the best scientists and minds are stolen or dumbed down and all our best tech is supressed or sabotauged!

Say What?!? I say lets just have Scotty, Geordi & Wesley beam a Warp Bubble down there with some Anti-Matter in it and use the Deflector Array & Extended Shields to Contain the Explosion!!

Hi Moshpet,

how much siesmographs/helicorders will pick up from distant quakes (or "ring" as you put it, which is a fair description), depends on how sensitive they are to start with, how many microvolts they're set at, what type they are, and also how close they are to the p-waves' shadow zone.

Generally, it seems that broadband recorders will pick up better, and ones set to a lower scale in microvolts will show the waves more pronouncedly. But that mag 6.8 quake SE of the Loyalty Islands puts Yellowstone very close to the shadow zone, as did the big Indonesia quakes recently. (The Afghan quakes, though smaller -- high mag 5's -- picked up much better than the Indonesia mag 7's, because the Indo. quakes had Y'stone in the shadow zone whereas the Afghan quakes, at 180 degrees away, had a good straight run and came through clearly. Around 103 - 140 degrees longitude away is the shadow zone region, where they show the weakest "ringing".)

Here a link to the USGS tech page for the Theoretical P-wave Travel Times for the mag 6.8 Loyalty Islands quake. It shows that Y'stone is very close to being in the shadow zone. There is also a link in that page that gives you more info about the shadow zone. Fascinating stuff. Its discovery helped scientists to determine how large the core of the planet is.

Anyway I have to fly. Works beckons. Key point here is that not all distant quakes of the same magnitude will register the same P-wave traces around the world. Some places will show almost nothing. It's all dependent on where they are.

Mike

OMG; the scalar EM weapon people are in here now ... I new it was going to happen sooner or later ...

Scalar field solution to EM equations, vs. Maxwell's vector solution , if i recall correctly

perhaps the Russians are using their Secret Scalar beam to activate the Caldera, I sure hope our ATS guys can deflect it in time (tee hee ....)

even if in "P" shadow zone; we should get the Pdiff waves .. which stand for P-Diffraction (p diffracted by core and reemitted back into the Mantle ) almost the same time as what U'd expect from P if it wasn't in shadow zone .. except lower frequency than the direct P

... download this 7 page intro to seismo interpretation from British Geological Survey... a whole course in 7 Pages, I highly recommend it .... (pages 6 & 7 of interest here ...)

perhaps , but I belong to the school that asserts these instruments have built in AGC ... not sure how the web plotting works (thats a potential gotcha in my argument) ... gotta learn how to plot this data (Raw format) myself ... actually if i could download it, I could use Matlab or Octave to plot it & do some so-so signal processing on it (& interesting especially seisms ) I could figure it out to my satisfaction for sure ... maybe this weekend , problem is that after a month or two away from Matlab, U may as well start learning the whole thing over from scratch
and its a year now for me ....

HX, VX, or RFburns; can any of U recommend a book on EE circuits that could get me restarted ... assume I know properties of resisters, capacitor, inductors and their impulse responses , AC & DC ... but not much more (ICs not) (logic gates very weak) ... what BOOK would u recommend ? ... something from ARRL, perhaps ???
