Hello,
Lately I started wondering if the global intensity of earthquakes and volcano eruptions is increasing or not.
For example, today there is a 3.3/3.4 quake in the Shetland Islands, north of Scotland. The last 'major' quake they had was one of Mag 2.0 in 1886
if I am not mistaken.
Add that to the fact that we are seeing a string of quakes going from Pakistan to Afghanistan to Turkey (Turkey seems to be shaking all over) to
Greece and then further along two lines, one to the Balkan, Bulgaria, Rumania and Poland and the other through Italy (where both the Stromboli and
the Etna are erupting) up north to Switzerland, western Germany till even in the UK.
Of course we cannot overlook the recent megaquakes in the far East, the California valley quakes, the ones in Central America, Alaska, Kamchatka and
the mid-atlantic ridge and I am only speaking of the first 15 days of the year 2009! AND Yelowstone that is having stomach aches.
Now, is that because of my increased awareness of and interest in these things or is there really an increased tectonic/volcanic activity?
I know that some people posting on this forum have long been following these events (and I mean for months and years) and they might be able to tell
me if what I see is normal or not.
Please ( I address myself to other more 'imaginative' posters) do not start telling me about the position of the stars or bible predictions or
whatever fantastic theories you may come up with.
Now back to Yellowstone and a question I put in an earlier post (some 20 pages or more ago) and where I got a reply on, that left me puzzled. I now
know why as I made the stupid mistake of mixing up amplitude and frequency, so I now formulate my question again:
In previous threads especially in December, a lot of attention was given to the fact that some graphs night show harmonic tremor (one of the warning
signs of an imminent eruption).
Now, reading some info on www.isthisthingon.org on Yellowstone and the explanation given there:
www.isthisthingon.org...
my question is: how would we ever be able to distinguish harmonic tremor on a seismograph plotting (like the one from LKWY) when time division is in
minutes instead of seconds? The frequency is too high to discern it. It would be possible to see it because LKWY is a broadband station but we would
need to be able to view it at a lower frequency (i.e.
