I already had Vase 2.8, but when I first tried it I could not get it to work, possibly because LKWY was down. I now have a MINISEED file, and several SAC_ASCII files which look a lot easier to deal with if I can work out what each column is. Do you do VB for a living or interest. .NET? or 6

I've used VB6 for a number of years as part of what I do for a living. I have not tried .NET but the folks where I work who do use it seem to like it a lot. Old dog, new tricks - you know the effect

I'd use VB6 for this kind of thing because it's what I'm familiar with.

I need some one to look at this and tell me IF I am nuts or not.

i705.photobucket.com...

All of the data from
quake.wr.usgs.gov...

Has this odd spike of eastward movement in every data section.

OK 1550 millimeters of eastward movement all over the region?

If its real... its a surprise and a half.

I can't quite believe its real, but hell.

Thoughts?
M.

Oh and I realize I screwed up the date, it should read 14 not 17 lol.

actually since I have been watching the usgs site for 2 months now, there is one there almost every week. There has been activity in that area recently.

I tell you where there is a ton of activity, by Puerto Rico and The Virgin Islands.

Now, as someone who lived there for 12 years, I can say, there was only one time, we had an earthquake there that I was able to feel, and I didn't even realize it was one until later (a very small shake).

Look at the map around there, they have had a HUGE amount of good sized quakes there for over 2 months now. About 3 or more hit a day there, most are around the 3. size.

It's either picking up crap far away, or its a localized feature. I've been sorta keeping an eye on YPP just because it's interesting to try and guess what it could be.

The wave forms in it look like ringing to me, but there has not been a quake large enough to produce ringing in that time frame.

Someone looking at Gee said YPP looked ok, but the gram is bug-fracked.

Yeah, I'm looking at the live feed on GEE and it doesn't look anything like that. Wind noise plus a messed up sensor, or some kind of problem in converting the data on the webicorder. YPP has been doing all kinds of weird stuff (not reflected on any other station) for the last few days.

That's what my spouse said. A METER jump to the East and no one noticed? Inconceivable.

I'm going to file that line of data as planted by the (insert secret society name here) as a way to screw with us.

OK, Its the GPS data from Location Lakeway (a seismo station in Yellowstone.)

The data looks like this raw

I shove it into Open Office Calc and tell it to make a chart of the X-Y- Z data

The number on the left is millimeters.

It tells me when charted, how much the station has 'moved' over a period of
time, in this case from Dec 1 2008 - Jan 14 2009.

A 1550 mm change as reported in the data is unreal.

Is that filtered and detrended data or raw data? If you look at past 30 days, there is definite trend, but I don't see a outlier that would skew the data that much. Maybe he just fat fingered it like the date. =)

Yeah, but he/she did it everywhere on every data table.

That takes determination LOL.

I'm just going to have to dump that line out everywhere and keep my eyes out for other odd insertions from now on. Some bugger just had to go scew my data lol. Since I just cut and paste... the data entry error is on them lol.

This old dog has been using basic for 30 years and loves VB.NET. I could not go back to VB6 now I think. My work (I am a programmer) is all in VB.NET, and is mainly data manipulation so....

If we can sort out what the columns are it should be posible to create a wave.
