I guess that would be good news, but, if it was cutoff what cut it off...the JDF/Pacific Plate Sliding in under the NW?

Did anyone else see this M4.2 off Wash/BC coast?
Canada is like a Blackhole on Eq info...being as it's so close to YS think I'll keep more of an eye on it since it's data doesn't show up most anywhere else.

When was this? Not on the Iris map and I check it almost daily lately.

I live in that region, didn't feel anything

more calculus : hydrophones (seismic pressure sensors in water) are related to geophones by a first derivate operation also (can't remember which way, but its obvious if U pull out pencil & paper)

its not obvious in that post but the 8.5 to 9 mag earthquake that the article references off Vancouver island is the near complete breakage of the subduction zone from N. California to middle of Vancouver island ... do U know how to say "welcome to intensive care Seattle/Victoria ", U actually need a breakage of this size to get 8.5 mag earthquake ... i suspect the writer was just a touch unclear on the concepts, but did a pretty good job anyways ...

From that article www.pbs.org...

it says:

The Pacific Plate slides beneath these other plates, plunging into the earth at a steep angle. As the Pacific Plate sinks into the hot interior of the earth, melting occurs. The resulting magma migrates to the surface, where it eventually bursts through the crust in the form of a volcano.

That would infer more heat and in turn more chance for eruption it would seem. Or at least more volcanic activity. I guess it is open for speculation as most things are, just fun to speculate is all. I'm always interested in these theories!

That was the "jist" of what I've been reading also...the subducting plate friction causes heating and heat rises. There is quite a "field" West of YS under the Tetons. Wonder if there is some kind of interaction between the Plate/Fields/Mountains?

I know it's not exactly related to YS (or is it?)
Is this Harmonic/Noise/Flatulance?

i could be wrong but i understand that addition of water lowers the melting point of rocks at depth ... water is included in chemical structure prior to & during subduction (hydrates ??) ,, after a certain depth/pressure is reached, the water is forced out resulting in melting in the surrounding area (or something in that vicinity .... ),,, better check up on me here ....

the subducted plate goes down at an angle of about 40-45 degrees ... take it from there ...

Too much to go into for one post, possibly take another whole thread

Easiest way I could describe it is a giant "lay line"it seems to me. Doesn't the great divide go through there also? I should know this. I feel there are extreme magnetic spots all along these areas. (I think the best snow for sking was in jackson hole by the way) Would explain much. I have seen remnants of the past eruptions through idaho and craters of the moon is very fascinating also!

Not much technical info to add sorry, just personal feelings from having been there.

Eh. It seems like all the helicorders are calibrated completely differently, and displayed completely differently, depending on what region you're looking at. Makes you crazy, huh? Nothing looks well defined enough to really be anything.

Here's a really whacky one from the PNW (and we're still here, I promise.)

Ok then, I'm done with Iris!
From now on I'll use this for my region. Thanks.

There's so many small towns on that list near me, and in regards to Abbotsford, I seem to recall an article in the local papar last year about the discovery of a new fault line, that runs straight through a new subdivision, and the homeowners were complaining of the danger. I'll see what I can find out about it.
