Thanks Geogeek, I'll try & see whats going on there.

Here is some info for anybody that hasn't seen it.
Musta put it up for us!

volcanoes.usgs.gov...

Theres still alot of pretty colored big squares though....
Whats up with that?
(besides we are on a blob of molten rock and stuff being
hurled around a massive dying star)? I feel better now 4 sure.
Boy I always seem to be the downer!
Just being a smart ass here, please excuse me.

so if we want to play amateur geoscientist, we should ask ourselves is the area between LKWY & WLWY ductily deforming aseismicly , or should we expect to see the earthquake swarm to start to fill in that area (along existing fault lines, etc) .. anyways something to watch for outa idle curiosity ...

we could hypothesize an unlinking or weakening of the resurgent dome attachment by the recent earthquakes to the surrounding outer caldera walls, leaving the area between those 2 stations previously mentioned under even greater strain (carrying more strain than they did before earthquakes).. just idle speculation ....

This could build up for a while. The timeline may still fit.

Oh hey folks,
I found a 'quaint' little game over on the BBC's site about a Supervolcano.

You get to play a disaster planner trying to come up with a 14 day plan...

www.bbc.co.uk...

Enjoy

well i could translate it but it winds down to this:

It's an article based on the info from Chris Sanders and this newspaper just repeats everythingshe has said in his youtube (can't find the link anymore) and it's nothing more then some fear mongering. I think we'd better stick to the real science and watch the data Shirakawa and co. are putting in here 'cause that seems a bit more scientific.

Peace

edit: the keys on my keyboard are failing me...or am i failing them???

Lou Dobbs (whom I don't love but he does report on some investigative issues) is reporting right now on a developing story that the FDA has been altering data and putting lives at risk, particularly with regard to medical equipment.

Nice! I think that in the next few weeks more scientists will be coming forward as the administration changes hands. In more directly related news, I think I called it when I said a few days ago that it was moving toward Soda Butte!

yeah, thats what i thought. it would fit the maya legends stating that the earth will be consumed by fire and the stars (read: burning rocks and magma stuff) will fall from the sky.

but lets stay positive

I think you saw the effect of this one:

Magnitude 5.1
Date-Time Friday, January 09, 2009 at 22:43:29 UTC
Friday, January 09, 2009 at 07:43:29 PM at epicenter
Time of Earthquake in other Time Zones

Location 23.195°S, 70.635°W
Depth 10 km (6.2 miles) set by location program
Region OFFSHORE ANTOFAGASTA, CHILE

Man...the south american coast is getting hammered these last days!!!

We can go to Mars, presumably send men to the moon, but we cant stick something in that Caldera that would allow it to ....fart...(sorry) you know, a little one here, a little one there could conceivably diminish that super blow.

No, I think this one was local. If you look at it in the isthisthingon geographic view:
www.isthisthingon.org...

you can see that it appears to have been centered near YMP at 23:09.

I think the waves from that one in Chile came in in that longer thingy a few minutes before.

For all those interested in a very well respected and silenced by the USGS Geologist Jim Berkland discussing the recent swarm on the 6th Jan 09:

Here is the Coast to Coast 1 hour interview about the swarm at Yellowstone,

It is an MP3 Download format, and not uploaded by myself but by a C2C archivist, full commercials please do listen to them.

Where have I been? This is the first I have see this particular link with all of the different area graph data together. I've been looking at the area graphs separately. Thanks!

(I'm not sure this was sarcasm, but here goes.: )

That's one of the misconceptions they illustrated in most of the 'Supervolcano' Movies.

Supposedly a small hole is a pin prick to a large chamber. However given the nature of the beast, all you would have done is create a ready made 'vent' for all the pressure to come out. Also the type of magma in Yellowstone is siliclastic as opposed to the type of magma in Hawaii. So it flows out faster and with a lot more force, as the gas trapped in the magma pushes it out.

Also the magma chamber is 2-5 miles underground, I'm not sure it could be drilled.

how do U guarantee anything U do doesn't runaway ... multi Gigatons of energy down there (lots & lots of that is tied up in potentially explosive gas pressure), think it could get away from control quite easily ... I guess the geoengineer could be dead with a clean conscious (for not having done anything), or be dead because he tried something .. or be alive because nothing much happened & he didn't try anything
