I posted this over at the "look out" thread also... quake.utah.edu... several in the last hour alone. One appeared to be near the 4.0 range.

Jay post all your data here because something is not adding up. We have ASNN showing lots of activity on the 3rd and 4th, RSOE showing 4.3's and USGS showing almost nothing.

Something stinks here.

I see. Thanks for the info! I gave up on the streaming cam, couldn't stand the guy talking in his texas accent. I thought it was just a "pre made video". I have been watching the still cam only. The streaming cam is just stuck on the trail head now. Can it be the earth under old faithfull is warming significantly? Thanks again for the help distinguishing between cams!

There have just been a couple of 4.0+ quakes in Northern CA in an area called The Geysers, an active geothermal area within the Clear Lake volcanic field.

Shouldn't we be seeing "echoes" of this quake on the seismic readings in Yellowstone? If we could see them for a quake, albeit a much stronger one, in Indonesia yesterday, it seems strange that we see nothing from this quake that is several hundred miles away. Anyone have any ideas why this is?

I posted this back on p.174.
Pan down just a bit to a graph and scroll down farther to some charts.

Please have a look all who may be interested.

Interesting stuff, I missed that in this long chain of threads, otherwise I would have referenced it. My intent was to relate outside events that could be related to what is happening in Yellowstone and I think the recent quake in NE NV is related and that the whole system seems to be clicking into gear!

Brought from another ATS thread.

The USGS site is not updating the lastest activities. Why?

Anyone?

RSOE is saying 4.3 and volcanic activity nearby. I know they are not completely accurate.

4.3 is not small at all.

Can this be close, I don't see anything on the USGS

hisz.rsoe.hu...〈=eng

And volcanic activity in Montana.

hisz.rsoe.hu...〈=eng

4.3 just hit in the north east corner of Nevada, its about 200 plus miles to the south west of Yellowstone!

The www.nps.gov/archive/yell/oldfaithfulcam.htm is a static cam that refreshes a new image every so many seconds. The live streaming cam; www.nps.gov... is pointed to the left of Old Faith and it shows people walking normally.
The cam pauses every two minutes or so to save bandwidth so you have to hit play again to keep it going. At least on Firefox under Linux Ubuntu OS.

I agree. It seems as if something is amiss. I took it for granted that the data on that site would be current.

It hasn't been updated over the past day. Odd.

It could be that their servers are being overloaded with web traffic and data coming into the system. I am sure the ATS crowd is doing there share of hitting the web sites, plus there has been some significant earthquake activity around the world.

Ok, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'll be watching the data updates closely now.

I just don't see the servers being that out of date, or not able to handle updates.

Oh, I'm sure they are getting tons of hits. However, there isn't any data showing up from yesterday on. I doubt they are THAT clogged.

I am agreeing with you.
That is why I popped it up for you.
I got a bit nay sayed back there.
There is also a post about Prof Smith saying connection with Alaska events.
Want me to pop that back to you, interested?

If I had to guess why the USGS is not immediately updating, 2 reasons:

1) There has been recent major quakes, and they are probably getting slammed with incoming over that.

2) They were already late updating before the major quakes, faced with the task of analyzing the hundreds of quakes at Yellowstone.

3) They're only human- and in the grand scheme of things underfunded, limited staff, etc.

I'm not sweating that as much as some other things, personally.

The shadows of the trees at the live web cam at old faithful are much too steep. It's 11:05 SM MST. No way the shadows from the trees could be that steep.

Well put.

I think those guys have quite a bit to handle now.

We'll give them break.

Did anyone notice the huge plume of steam coming from behind the tree line in the upper portion of the streaming cam a few minutes ago? It appeared the people in the video were looking and heading in that direction. Is there another gyser in that location? It was quite a large plume of steam, but it's gone now!

But isn't the earthquake data automated? As in a seismogram picks it up and transfers it to a central server and then it gets outputted to the web page and other places?

Oops, sorry. That would be one 4.4 eq at The Geysers. I received to notifications but one was an update, increasing the first from a 4.0 to a 4.4.
