2:10 pm PST here and I notice the Old Faithful cam is shaky as hell again.
I wonder if that is from the operator who occasionally pans the cam?

Demogator,

I posted about this on the previous page (okay now it's two pages back, which is why I'm in "edit")
, explaining how it's a P-wave effect from a quake in Afghanistan. I also posted about it just a few posts before yours. Please read the posts and check the links to the USGS data that show exactly what happened. This is not an unusual occurrence if there is a large quake elsewhere in the world and it's not mysterious. It's not caused by activity in Yellowstone. It's a P-wave from the other side of the world -- a really excellent, clear one!

Thank you..

Mike

Edit to clarify where the posts are.

little bit off topic but got to mention.
The china quake has some connections with HAARP they think.
So take a look at this data from HAARP. link and link coincidence?
If the talks are real then we not have to wurry about all this YS stuff

The last days there where no HAARP activity.
And yes try to play with the url normal days are different than the links.

Here is a view of Nevada a few minutes ago or so.

Maybe we should widen our monitoring.

LHE, LHN and LHZ channels pick up long-duration waves only.
BHE, BHN and BHZ channels are broadband channels for many types of seismic waves. They basically pick up everything.
There also are channels for very short or very long waves only, but I don't think we need other than broadband seismograph channels for our uses.

Google Earth placemarks of the 2 seismographs that we've been watching if you'd like to see their actual locations:

H17A - Grant Village

LKWY - Yellowstone Lake Seismograph

I would venture to say those are effects from the Afghan quake?

From top left to bottom right.

Each line represents 15 minutes.

Left time display is local, right time display is UTC

Every fifteen minutes the color of the lines changes for readability.

The more the lines are of the x-axis, the more the tremour.

Rule of thumb I found that if a spike crosses itself, it is about a 3.0 Richter quake. Look at yesterdays map of YUF

Look at the 11:30 am line (blue)

There was a 3+ quake then (crossed itself at the 10:30 & 12:30 line and a bit more)

Confirmed here

3.5 2009/01/02 11:32:49 44.549N 110.357W 5.4

I´m babbling, but hope it makes some sense.

I don't know if it means anything, but there was a magnitude 7.6 quake in Indonesia at 1944 UTC - 01/03/09. Could these stations (Yellowstone) be reading some of the seismic waves from that event?

I personally do not think it is a stretch to consider any and all man-made events -
that many have had a hand in any "natural disaster".

You got me there! What I'm struggling with is not overreacting to all of this. Because it DOES seem that something might be brewing with all the recent quakes and waking up of yellowstone. What is happening?? Its addicting nonetheless. . .

there was a quake of magnitude 2.8 on the 1th january in washington
that's when the activity there started.
it might have been caused by that earthquake
and be of no real concern
but ... it is worrying me a bit
still, as someone said before: this thread is about yellowstone and as long as noone can connect mt baker to yellowstone (or rather this activity to it) i daresay that this is the wrong thread to discuss it

Ok, I just looked at the USGS list of active volcanoes that Violet posted earlier.
volcanoes.usgs.gov...

I have to comment on this. When I lived in Alaska for 12 years, I used to love to research and watch the volcanic and seismic info in our region. Never in the 12 years that I was there did I ever see a volcano have an advisory or even the activity yellowstone is showing but still remain "green" on the color scale. I am pretty sure that they are doing this to keep the public calm, actually I am 100% sure.

I wondered if that was unusual for it to remain green.

I don't know if adding it to the list yesterday calms the public when the idea of this list is to alert the public and bring attention to it. On a Volcano of this size they have to be careful with issuing alerts and maybe this is a way of giving it attention while at the same time controlling what would likely turn out to be unnecassary panic. At this stage I don't really think anything big will happen, but at the same time I want to be aware what may happen should I decide to be more prepared.

Here's the page in question:
Elevated Volcanic Activity
