Ok as its ATS and as a personal belief too we need to deny Ignorance.

Yellowstone does have a lot of activity in this one area, which is very unusual and concerning.

There is no fancy gadget that we can play with atm which shows that (that I know of anyway), so it looks like we may have to wait until they get around to telling us.

Actually we are able to monitor the deformation via GPS, you can find that information located here YellowstoneContin when you get to this page take some time to digest the information below the map and then click on the LKWY link to the left and that will take you to the latest GPS readings for that station which are updated regularly as the sattelite goes over. You will notice that there has been a dramatic uplift over the past several years. I have not been able to find a way to drill down past the yearly data (yet) if anyone know if that is possible I would love to learn.

Namaste,

Maeve

hrm

quake.wr.usgs.gov...

Hmmmm is right because I swear I have been clicking on that "Data" link for the past four days and every time i clicked on it go a 404 page not found error....anyhow you can definitely see am uplift trend in this that started roughly in August of "08" my apologies if this has already been mentioned I am just waking up and getting caught back up so I have not gotten to the most recent page yet.

Namaste,

Maeve

Looking at Old Faithful webcam a huge pillar of smoke has just appeared in the distance on the left hand side of the picture. Anyone know if this is normal?

There are several Geysers in the general area... I don't see anyone running.

(btw, I'm hoping that it's steam and not smoke...
)

That dark smoke looks quite a bit different than anything I've seen in the past few days. Yikes?

To the right of the geyser and to the left... Darker than the white steam.

Is that my imagination or is that FLAME in the foreground, with the dark smoke rising from it?

Sure looks orange to me and the smoke is dark. Burning grass?

There are 2 geysers close together and both are emitting different kinds of smoke. Significant?

What you are seeing is steam and not smoke -- the difference in color is due to shadows.

Nothing unusual currently.

Being a former firefighter, I can assure you that is steam, not smoke.

Looks more "normal" now, but there was one image there where the shadows were clearly orange. The smoke does seem darker than I've seen in past days. Looked to be white steam before. Now it's gray. Regardless, the one 30 second image seemed to be an illusion.

Isn't that more active than normal? There's a constant stream of dark smoke coming up. No burst of eruption. Is that because of the temperature?

Seems the blogosphere is covering this, but not the main news channels.

This from a Brit blogger called Morpheus

I may add, that whoever is in charge of upkeep on the streaming NPS cam for Old Faithful, needs to clean the window the camera is behind. Makes it hard to see everything clearly. Looks like maybe ice on the window. They should maybe install a heated pane to keep the ice out of view.

** Self correction:

I see now that it is not a window, its the actual camera lense. Still, they should construct a way for ice to stay off of it.

I noticed that as the camera panned earlier.

I didnt realize how many people are really there this time of year, the camera shows quite a few! So it would be a terrible disaster if something were to happen. It doesnt look like anyone is worried, no ground shaking, no panic.

I love the video. Honestly the best part of it were the "Insert Footage" sections. Those made me laugh. :-)

He talks about the 7.5 magnitude quake and the dead campers. Do they really know that it was only 20-something dead? Since 19 of them are still buried there isn't it possible there are more?
