the harmonic tremors might have stopped
but there was just some minor quake...
so maybe no calmness?

'Earthquake swarm' continues to rock Yellowstone

Federal Emergency Management Agency in Denver is closely monitoring the seismic activity in Yellowstone.

There are quite a few of us who have been on this thread for some time.

For those of you who may be new or spot checking in there have been quite a few things discussed very often.

One of those things has been the wind.

It has been decided that it is not the wind.

Monitors are buried deeply and though some have questioned this-- our science/experts are not total fools in the field.

They may not be responding to the cituation the way we would like, but that is the way it is.

Please remember this that was posted before:
*Note to all as a reminder*
Typing thoughts and info can be easy to get impersonal even a little mean as it did yesterday off and on. Please be mindful of your wordage.

We are all trying to do our best to understand the data available.

The above is an interesting charting of quake positions and depths.

I have in my possession a TFT EAS 911 monitor system, currently tuned to the primary EAS station. If there is any actual warning, I will hear it even before the public does because the EAS receives a warning first, then after getting the pertent data, it then proceeds to interupt program content, radio or tv, with the warning.

I have it set on un-mute on its internal speaker, so far no warning, nothing on the print out or data display. All quiet.

Cheers!!!!

Are you then saying that you will be our early warning system?

If so , thank you.

My bad. I will try to be nicer. Just a little frustration I guess. I hate having to repeat stuff over and over. Sorry!

Definitely calmed down now, ecxept for that one little blip a few minutes ago. Interesting to see the out flow of the lake go down as well. I am not sure how to feel about today's quakes. Much bigger on average than previous days. The most interesting feature is the 3.6 followed immediately by an hour or more of what we are calling "harmonics" here. that is a first as far as I can tell.

Absolutley. Since my radio station is required to have this piece of equipment, it is required to let the people know of any alert. I just happen to have the studio in the same location as my home, so if it starts buzzing its all to familiar incomming waring beeps, I will definately post something like this:

EAS YELLOWSTONE ALERT!!!!

That will be what to look for.

Cheers!!!!

Yeah same here. Being at a TV station, we have the exact same thing.. may be same model as for radio.

If it says anything about this situation, trust me.. it would be posted here even before I hit the button to send it on air.

I second that! Good reason to keep this thread open!

Again with my theory.

We see rises and drops yes, but the most activity seems to occur during tidal pull on that face of the planet. That pressure is being exerted and causing these issues, or what ever the case may be... but when the tidal pull hits, it gives it that extra "10%" boost, to allow more strengthened events to occur.

Any opinions on this?

I see also that she seemed to have calmed a bit.

It is ok for me.I do not know how singed the other guy is.

But it is important that if the mass media is not talking about this at large, then we all here have to keep our heads on straight.
We are like the HAMRADIO opperators of which I was one.
If the powers that be don't spead the word or fast enough,
It is going to have to be us.
Somehow.

Yes the TFT 911 is the same unit, yours has the video module for the ticker insert. Its good we got two sources for direct public notification. Where are you located? If this thing really blows its top, it just might take out the entire state all at once and of course if that happens, I wont be around to hit "post reply", much less anyone else in Wyoming be left to tell anyone about it!

Cheers!!!!

Alright, I'm replying to my earlier anonymous post - you can only do one anonymous every 12 hours I guess. So I'm new here so I apologize if my post doesn't come out right.

First, I gave a bad link to the USGS article, its:

quake.usgs.gov...

Second, I said Mary Lake is YMR, which is not true, it's YML. However YMR - Madison River appears to also be somewhat affected by the SC to ML conduit (USGS speculates about the existance of such a conduit in the article). I also want to say that these certainly appear to resonate - that is, they have a low seismic activity that is discrete and long lasting - like knocking a tuning fork. It may, however, be a harbinger of lateral magma (or hydrothermic) flow rather than vertical eruptive flow.

OK, instead of trying to bust into this thread on page 130 with your theory, why don't you go back and read the whole thing.
I did, and I laughed at the past few hours. You guys want to deny ignorance yet can't distinguish from a wind saturated webicorder?

Again, as I said there's quite a nice swarm going on. And maybe instead of staring at a lot of wind generated noise creating pretty multicolored squiggly lines, you should go look at the ones less noise saturated. Or do I need to hold your hand and point out the real possible harmonic at Old Faithful this afternoon? Deny ignorance is the motto isn't it? Go open the webicorder and go look for yourself. Warning though, it's not as 'dramatic'.

Originally posted by WSPfanFirst, your pic of the LKWY seismograph is not actually the siesmograph.
Got it from the Utah website. Don't blame me if they can't keep their site updated.
Second, where is this wind generated noise over the past few years?
Oh you mean these?

How about the Mary Lake siesmo for starters, shall we?

theinterveners.org...
theinterveners.org...
theinterveners.org...
theinterveners.org...
theinterveners.org...
theinterveners.org...

How about Yellowstone Lake?
theinterveners.org...

Or should I go research some more and waste my time finding MORE examples for garbage on webicorders I've seen before in the past at the cascades? Even the guy that runs that archive site admits noise and wind garbage and gives an example. Maybe if i get lucky I too can find the same type of activity on the some cascade archives just to drive the nail home.
Are you telling me this is the first time it has been windy in the park in that timeframe?
And as I pointed out at first, even the Utah website admits that SOME of the Yellowstone seismos ARE susceptible to wind noise. You assume that there's no past activity showing wind noise, which I just posted above.
Third, why is the graph just now starting to normalize despite the fact that the winds are as strong now as they have been all day?
Gee, I WONDER and i just WONDER if it's because the winds are now a nice 8mph-11mph from the south without gusts. Or should I screen shot the current conditions from weather.com? You decide.

www.weather.com...
I appreciate your "effort", but maybe you should do a little more research before you come in to "solve" this issue.
The swarming wasn't solved, the noise was. Stay focused.
What you have added to this thread has been discussed over MANY pages. There are MANY reasons why the "noise" wouldn't show up at Upper Falls.
Actually that question is for you champ, considering it's in between two seismos people have been posting as harmonic yet it shows nothing of the sort. Lets forget that the upper falls one is closer to the swarm than others. I'll await your answer, or do you need a map of the seismo locations to assist?
Maybe you can look that up and report back to us. I will grade your work. This is most certainly not a wind event. You will find the reasons I state that discussed on pages 1 through 130.

You want to grade my work?

I havent posted since earlier in the thread but have been following every page.Great work being done by all in keeping the updates flowing.

I think Mushussa the best early warning sign would be the movement of certain top individuals.
Anyone noticed wether Bush and Obama have been on the move in the last 24 hours?

Mushussu and to all of you in your efforts in what you are doing.
