yes hold our hand and point out the real possible harmonic at Old Faithful this afternoon?

theinterveners.org...

See the little squiggly going up and down between 21:15 and 22:15 (the blue line) after the little jolt? See how it goes /\/\/\/\ in a slow fashion until the other little jolt at the end of the blue line? As i said, possible to be harmonic with a LOT less noise to cut through.

Originally posted by redhattyAnd while your at it, do show us the map of the seismos that prove upper falls is closest to the swarm.

I didn't say closest, I said it was closer than Mary Lake. Link below.

www.seis.utah.edu...

West Thumb, Upper Falls, and The Prominary are about the same distance from Yellowstone Lake (LKWY). No one bothered to check Upper Falls, which has been nearly flat the entire time while everyone was running around like their heads were cut off because of wind generated squiggly lines on various recorders.

The Upper Falls IS the second closest one to one of the resurgent domes on the east side of the park. Mary's (YML) isn't even close to it to either resurgent dome. It's smack dab in between Upper Falls and Old Faithful -- but neither of those seismos show the same activity. Those dotted circles are the caldera resurgent dome which is where the magma is thought to be.

The quake swarm itself is going nearer towards YUF. For noise free we should be looking at YUF.

Even more so now that the wind noise died down, the Yellowstone Lake corder shows sharp cracks -- ie, ice breakage that you can see in the cascades. I I'm cutting through the background garbage to actually get a clear picture of the whole thing.

Make sense now?

Again with my theory.

We see rises and drops yes, but the most activity seems to occur during tidal pull on that face of the planet. That pressure is being exerted and causing these issues, or what ever the case may be... but when the tidal pull hits, it gives it that extra "10%" boost, to allow more strengthened events to occur.

Any opinions on this?

I see also that she seemed to have calmed a bit.

would the tug of jupiter help this as well? can anyone figure out when the next time the moon and jupiter and maybe the sun might have some pull on this area.

i probably dont know what im talking about. peace

Here's a bit about Chris Sanders:

www.xing.com...

Apparently, there are a least 2 Chris Sanders who are Geologists.

The email I sent was returned undelivered so I found different one.

Also left him a phone message to join us.

Well lookie there RSOE's Yellowstone volcano icon is back. Now lets see if they turn the US earthquake alerts back on.

good catch.

FOXE

As far as I know fisherman or ladies (me) use the moons phases at different times of the year to figure in times for high and low tides... I am not sure if this would pertain to ground water reserves though.

I just thought people might be interested to read some advice on how people should react should something big actually happen:

What to do if Yellowstone Supervolcano Blows

Let's hope it just remains of theoretical interest.

hello im usuelly a lurker but im joining up just to post this

im in wyoming , near yellowstone national park.

recently, starting earlier today at around noon, i started smelling this weird smell in the air, smells like sulfur but a little bit more "bitter" smelling

i cant figure out what it is, but it hasnt gone away. i drove a few miles away from my house to the town, and the smell is still there in the air. everyone else can smell it too. i called the news channel and they said they are going to run a report on it on the morning news tomorrow

i dont know if its related to yellowstone or not or if im just paranoid. but thought i would share this. take it with a grain of salt.

"More small quakes rattle Yellowstone National Park
1 hour ago
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — More earthquakes are rattling Yellowstone National Park.
The small quakes include three more Friday that measured stronger than magnitude 3.0. The University of Utah Seismic Stations say the strongest was 3.5.
Several hundred quakes centered under the northern end of Yellowstone Lake have now occurred since Dec. 26. No damage has been reported.
Earthquake swarms happen fairly often in Yellowstone. But scientists say it's unusual for so many earthquakes to happen over several days.
Yellowstone lies mostly in northwestern Wyoming and is the caldera of a volcano that last erupted 70,000 years ago. Scientists have not concluded what is causing the earthquakes."

OH that last line gets me!

While the entire star system has its 'pull' on earth, it is primarily Luna and Sol. Luna being the closest causing tidal pull. This is what creates the Tides in the ocean...but it is capable of affecting other things as well. One example is obvious: Io near Jupiter is volcanically active BECAUSE of tidal pull, but that is on an order MUCH larger than what I am speaking of here.

Yes Luna has pull, my theory is, that pull is helping Yellowstone alleviate it's stresses... maybe.

But not, Jupiter's pull is to minute at this distance to be of an affect.

Hmm - that's interesting.

Has there been any talk of closing to tourists?

I have lurked for over a hundred pages, so I figured I should post. A recurring theme I find in this thread is one saying these are not harmonics because they do not have the slow undulating sine wave look to them. I found this example on wikipedia which is an image from the USGS showing quake types.

en.wikipedia.org...:Four-types-seismograms.gif

They key information to pull out of that image is the time scale on the bottom. A rough glance shows us that given the 10-second scale on that image, the harmonic tremor is resonating at roughly 1.2Hz. If we compare that to the helicorders we are seeing from yellowstone, the amount of time for the same area is about 5 minutes. Even as low as 1Hz a harmonic tremor would look like the tight spikey graph we have seen on these digital helicorders. These are harmonic tremors. They have been for days. Something is moving.

that must be really freaky all else considered. i've no idea what i'd be doing in your situation but i hope you're ready to bail if you need to and stay safe.
