From Australian news

From correspondents in Gaza City Agence France-Presse
December 30, 2008 12:11pm

10 dead in latest strikes on Gaza

ISRAELI warplanes have carried out dozens of air strikes on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 10 Palestinians and injuring 40, the director of Gaza's emergency services, Moawiya Abu Hassanein said.

At least 40 air strikes, centred mostly on Gaza City, targeted the Hamas ministry and security buildings, Hamas sources and witnesses said.

Mr Hassanein estimated that at least 360 Palestinians had now been killed and 1690 injured since the Israeli air strikes began.

The Israeli military confirmed new air raids were under way "targeting Hamas targets".

Among the buildings struck were those housing the offices of the prime minister, the defence ministry, foreign ministry, finance ministry, and the Islamic University, Hamas sources and witnesses said.

Read more here:

www.news.com.au...

It would be difficult to target only key buildings and it would appear that important infrastructure is being destroyed. Gaza could end up like Kabul.

Once again, both of you have failed to provide a legitimate source for your claims about the U.S. Liberty, a single incident that occurred over forty years ago. If you are so right, you ought to be able to provide a legitimate link as I have done.

This is the best source you can have, an eyewitness account of the incident.
hnn.us...

USS Liberty: Eyewitness Account
By James Ennes

Mr. Ennes was an officer on the bridge of the USS Liberty during the 1967 attack and is the author of Assault on the Liberty (Random House, 1980; Ballantine, 1986). He is the co-founder of an award-winning website dedicated to the memory of the victims of the attack.

The sky was clear over the eastern Mediterranean when I assumed the forenoon watch as officer-of-the-deck on the bridge of the USS Liberty.

The sea surface rippled slightly from a warm, seven-knot breeze as we headed south, sometimes as close as 13 miles from the Israeli and Egyptian coastlines, but always in uncontested international waters.

intresting, they claim to be targeting Hamas yet they are targeting civilians
anyone supprised apart from the Israeli prep squad?

Universities =Civilian = Students = future of palestine

ever more like nazi germany, kill of the academics

Wrong! That would be the case in any civilized place. In Palestine its:

University = Chemistry lab = Bomb and Rocket Development center = better and more lethal rockets and future bomb makers!

"Just" his work? Tell that to the courts that agree. Tell that to the footage of "dead" kids waving at the camera. Also, you act like since its his documentary that means... actually I'm not sure what you mean. Since the guy doesn't murder Jewish babies he's biased towards Israel?

Its really sad that folks have to keep starting new threads about this conflict instead of posting the news on this one, but i guess that what happens when it gets off topic. Guess i'll email the moderators AGAIN.

Iran has kinda mastered the Art of guierela warfare with IEDs and russian anti-tank RPGs.

WRONG! Iran has mastered nothing other than making its elected officials look stupid to the international communty!
Before Desert Storm, Saddam Hussein was the most powerful army in the middle east. The US military decimated his military machine within weeks. And then did it again a few years later.

Iran is nothing compared to the erst while Iraqi army. They could barely hold their own against Saddam, what makes you think they could stand against the USA or Israel ???
As for "mastering" the art of guerilla warfare, that was done by insurgents and militants in Iraq, which despite all that, they have already LOST the battle against the US forces in Iraq even in Anbar.

Well if the muslims were soo weak according to your analysis of history. How the hell did they manage to spread their influence all the way to Spain and make nearly 1/3 overall world population? According to you the 'West' were a formidable force and 'slaughtered' everyone that came in their way.Well i guss they didn't do good job when facing muslims.

This is an Islamist wet dream that they feed their children over and over again, remembering some old "glory" days of heroism and conquest. Those days are LONG GONE.
Once upon a time, Xerexes ruled large parts of Asia, then there was Alexander of Macedonia, then there was Genghis Khan (NOT MUSLIM IN ANY WAY!) who ruled perhaps the largest empire in human history from Mongolia.

Do you think Mongolians today have wet dreams of their days of conquest and plunder ???

Its part of history and your Caliphate had a lot of idiots to die for them and a lot of luck, no point fantasizing about it today because its not going to come back anytime soon.

They rely on West for their weapons but the West relies on their oil droppings to run their economy.

Well I dont know about any other country but the USA imports about 50% of its oil consumption from the middle east. Thats only HALF and if you take America's latent oil reserves that are still untapped we could be energy independent easily if we really had to.
So the Arabs shouldnt think that we would collapse should they turn off their oil wells. It is just dumb luck that below all that useless sand, they had the good fortune of striking oil (which was actually found by Western companies!). Besides, if the West doesnt buy the Arabs oil they'll start begging. Just check out the oil price today. Its was $120+ a few months ago but a slow down in the US and oil prices are at $37 per barrel today! Thats nearly 3 times the value due to fluctuations in the West. Imagine if we stop completely ??

Without the oil, the Western hi-tech mega super jets ,carriers and tanks wouldn't move from their position.Kinda no point having hi-tech gadgets if they can't move.

Again fantasy!
Its not like the Arabs are the only people in the world with oil. If not the Arabs, the Russians, the South Americans, the Central Asians, the Africans would provide oil . They are not irreplaceable!

Yeah, Isreal's begging alright, begging to launch a full scale ground assault into Gaza and drive the HAMAS 6 feet under!

I posted earlier that Israel had sent out phone warnings before begining the attack, but it was ignored. Here is some more news that some pretend to ignore.

Recent news highlights

news.yahoo.com...

Palestinian militants sent a deadly barrage of missiles flying deep into Israel on Monday, demonstrating that Hamas still had firepower three days into Israel's punishing air offensive in Gaza.

In Monday's attacks, Israel focused its bombing on the houses of Hamas field operatives in a campaign meant to tear at the roots of the extremist group ruling Gaza. Israel's defense minister promised a "war to the bitter end against Hamas" and allied militants.

Intensified rocket strikes by Gaza militants, which triggered the Israeli offensive, have revealed the expanding range of missiles that are making larger cities farther inside Israel vulnerable.

With Israeli troops and tanks massing on the Gaza border, Defense Minister Ehud Barak told parliament he wanted to strike a devastating blow against Hamas. However, later he indicated a ground assault was not inevitable, issuing a warning that he was giving Hamas a last chance to halt its rocket fire.

This attack by Israel on Gaza is just another act that shows their true colors. If they had no problem attacking a US ship, and killing their allies, why should they care about civilians in Gaza? It is time that the US stop supporting this gangster state.

Well, the US Liberty received no telephone calls!
BTW, how would you feel if you got a telephone call telling YOU that your house was going to be bombed? Would you feel good about it?

I have it straight. You do not. Israel is a rogue state that has no problem bombing civilians and civilian homes. We have enough Israeli apologists in Congress. We don't need any more.
I assume you enjoy having American tax dollars helping Israel to bomb civilians. Israel has proven that they are no better than the Nazi's that they so despise. You probably weren't even born when Israel pulled the dastardly attack on the USS Liberty. I was, and I know for a fact that the incident was sanitized by both the US and Israeli governments.

You mean a pause in hostilities while they regroup and rearm themselves to break the truce again in the near future. Starting to sound like a broken record over there. For a group that doesn't believe in peace talks they sure don't disagree with truce talks, especially when they are getting their you know what kicked.

Ah yes, the US Liberty incident that occurred over forty years ago is breaking news. You have nothign new to add to the story to make it relevant, you just want to muddy the waters with disinformation.

As far as eye witness on the deck of the ship goes, only the pilots in the sky knew what they saw, and friendly fire is quite common, even among combatants in the same military. The accounts of the length of time of the attack vary from 40 minutes to 75 minutes. No doubt you are eager to pass judgement, if for no other reason than to spew propaganda about an incident forty years ago that has not been repeated.

I read James Ennes account, and I can see how he would view the situation, but there were more than likely things that he was not aware of. Why would U.S. command call off the planes sent to aid the Liberty? That is what has me wondering.

There has never been put forth a credible reason why Israel would attack the Liberty. More importantly, this has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Recent Muslim terrorist attacks in India are far more relevant, and more proof in the common pattern of Muslim radical terrorists assaults. They don't care who they kill in the name of their god.

Excuse me. I was responding to a post YOU made. You brought up the subject, not me. Now that a credible link has been posted, you don't want to discuss it. Whether it is 40 years old or 1 day old, what Israel does as a state is pertinent. We give them over $2,000,000,000 a year in support. Don't tell me about friendly fire in this incident. The skies were clear, Israeli jets had been overflying the Liberty for 12 hours, they were heard to radio back to their base that it was an American ship, and the US flag was flying high. Even if they didn't know (AND they did) that it was a US ship, you don't shoot at life rafts.

Maybe you should read the report "
www.gtr5.com...

This report of war crimes committed against U.S. military personnel is submitted to the Honorable Secretary of the Army in his capacity as Executive Agent for the Secretary of Defense, pursuant to Department of Defense Directive Number 5810.01B (29 March 2004) 1.

But then again, it seems that apologists for Israel never want the facts.

Funny then that Israel describes this as an Offensive not a counter attack.

Stranger still that Israel admits they have been planning this Offensive for six months.

Of course it is pretty hard to claim you are counter attacking to attacks made upon you, on stolen lands Israel has clearly stolen.

So let’s try, Palestinians appeal for World Body Justice, the United Nations votes to and condemns Israel overwhelmingly, the United States vetoes the resolution as the sole dissent.

Let’s try it over and over again as one after resolution condemning Israel after another resolution condemning Israel over 60 years now continues to have a near total majority in the United Nations except for one U.S. veto.

All over another United Nations program that allowed for Jews and Zionists to immigrate to Palestine that Zionist terrorism undermined from the onset to steal the lands that one U.N. condemnation after another has stated clearly for 60 years.

Not one of the pro-Israeli respondents to this thread has yet to answer those charges in all these pages.

No amount of chest beating, or cry the poor Israelis a river responses can eclipse the thundering silence in regards to the root causes that are cowardly being ignored in this thread.
