Dude.. it was not this amazing nor that huge, cameras and videos always make things out to be like 5x brighter (A.K.A. more amazing!). The fireball I saw was about twice the size of the moon, and yes it was bright but not like atom bomb bright lol.

So let me get this straight. you saw a fireball that was 2 times the size of the moon and it wasn't that amazing.

Considering you mentioned you have seen an atom bomb go off and it wasn't as bright as that, i guess the atom bomb would have been more amazing so this isn't that cool.

If I saw a fireball cross the sky that was 2 times the size of the moon no matter what it was I would say that's pretty damn amazing.

Yes, that is exactly what I said.. It was neither 'amazing' nor 'that cool'. *sarcasm* I would like to add that the video footage looks wayyyyyy cooler/brighter because that's how cameras and video footage work. Come on dude.. of course it was the coolest thing I have ever seen. Give your head a shake.

"James M. DuPont, Meteor Expert, Dead at 79"

It looks like he was actually a meteor expert that has some huge collection. This fits with your idea he is just having it do a text to speech software off anything to do with a meteorite.

I`m pretty sure this is the most exciting thing to happen in Edmonton since the Oilers last made the playoffs. Although I was outside, at the time of the the incident, I was not a witness

My sister however was, and I believe the accounts of her and her co-worker.

This question I pose to you: When objects of this size are supposed to be clearly visible in the sky, don`t the scientists/astro-physicists/NASA/Galileo's of the world usually know in advance???

It seems to me every couple of weeks we hear about some meteor shower or comet that we're supposed to be able to see, how could they have missed this?

yeah but his videos were coming on to youtube before the meteor or whatever it is hit

True. However one of the previous replies in this thread mentioned that this meteor is significant, because it's the first one that was predicted a day or so ahead of time by authorities. This is why I'm wondering... if these Hacker Mike videos were intentionally linked to this event -- and you have to admit, if it wasn't intentional, it was a hell of a coincidence -- then who exactly did know about this thing ahead of time, and what might really be going on here?

No.
This one was not predicted. The one that entered over Sudan last month was seen and entry predicted about 48 hours before the event.

wow we live in Great Falls MT and were beginning to think we were crazy...we saw something very HUGE and bright fall from the sky and disappear over the horizon...we were traveling back into Great Falls from about 45 miles out after hunting elk today...at about 5:25 pm this "fireball" fell from the sky and we were extremely panicked because it actually looked like a bomb or something in the vicinity of Great Falls, which is where our 5 children were at home waiting for us to return. Now to hear that it was NOT 45 miles away but much further? Wow what a trip! I cannot imagine how scary and bright it must have been because, as I said, we thought it was much closer to us! Funny thing is, nobody else here seems to have noticed! Not on the news, radio, nothing! Yikes!

It's likely this meteor was associated with the Taurid shower which peaked a few days ago.

I noticed that a number of eyewitnesses indicate the fireball was greenish to greenish blue in color.

As those with some chemistry background would know, copper is a metal that burns greenish like that. Meteors are not made of copper.

I don't mean to derail the thread, but there is a long standing controversy among scientists as far as explaining why would green meteors exist... why have they only been reported since the mid 40's and why they are only reported clustered around certain areas near military bases, particularly around new mexico...

en.wikipedia.org...

Something to think about while we get some more news from a witness...

-rrr

I agree bro. I have a friend here and we we're having this same argument.

"Why in the hell is it green?" I asked.

He calmly said that it was because of the meteors gases.... but I didn't buy that either.

Thanks for the wiki link. Very interesting stuff. Star and flagged

That really doesn't look like what I saw.

I guess the best way I could explain what I saw, was a whitish-yellow glowing ball, which appeared to be the size of a softball, with a tail that looked like sparks from a grinder, like if you were grinding steel.

Mind you, I was driving down a hi-way, and it was to my left, so I couldn't really stop and stare.. lol

i think he mistyped and thats what he meant

its weird the whole thing
that we have no record of a crash with cameras and human beings all over the place,
that this guy just happenes to have some automated hack bot or whatever sprouting gibberisj about extra terrestrial life stemming from metorites (watch the videos in my last couple of posts)

i dont believe in coincidences... if it wasnt 6am almost in the uk and id actualy had some sleep,... id really have my thinking hat on right now

somethings up though
hes either being hired to purposely mislead people or i dont know what

Yes, I just found the reply I was thinking of... thanks for correcting me, Phage. This meteor was not predicted ahead of time.

Could the swamping of YouTube with these Hacker Mike "meteor" and "fireball" videos, starting two days ago, just be coincidence? I suppose it's possible... but this whole thing still seems very suspicious to me.

Just thought I'd post this by Anonymous ATS, I remember seeing people say they ingored anonymous posts... so...

I live in Edmonton and saw it...

Was driving south at about 5:30 PM local time (mountain standard time) when out of the corner of my eye in the east the sky started lighting up until the ENTIRE eastern sky was as bright as day until finally I saw a HUGE BRIGHT orange fireball in the sky. It looked about as large as the sun would be in the day-sky, but about 5 to 10 times brighter. That lasted about 3-4 seconds when it seemed to break up and streaked across the sky, still as a large fireball for another 2 or 3 seconds, until it finally looked like a firework being shot up into the sky (but obviously in the opposite direction) and at the same time it appeared to be breaking up into 2 or 3 smaller objects until it finally dissapeared over the horizon.

But anyways the weather at the time was totally clear, it was very dark out as the sun goes down about 5:00 local time this time of the year. The moon wasn't out or anything so it was VERY bright and VERY large.

Someone I know who was driving out in the middle of the country said it literally made everything seem like it was bathed in sunlight.

Edmonton is in central Alberta, but people seen it all the way in southern Alberta, northern Alberta, and even in Saskatoon which is about six hours south east of Edmonton in Saskatchewan.

It's definitely a one in a lifetime experience!

All the concern about the 'pulsating' of the light. Think about it; a single flash, like a single tackle, or Challenger explosion. Has anyone guessed that the studio looped the tape to fill the alloted time? after all, if it were shown once, everyone would be saying "What was that? I was looking at the center of the screen. I want to see it again"
Don't read so much into it.
Steve

It makes sense. The parking lot video camera was at a low light setting because of the time of day. The sudden brightness of the meteor results in the appearance of an extremely large fireball. To the human eye it would not have appeared to be quite so dramatic.
