Republicans ARE for a relatively more deregulated than one which is more regulated. However, what we got with fannie mae and freddie mac was MORE regulation. When you tell people and entities that they can trade with people, but they they should give these guys over here a better deal than those guys over there or you will be penalized, that is not an unregulated market at all. Forcing fannie and freddie to approve absurd loans to people who showed no history of being able to back the loans up, leads us to the financial situation we are in. Bureucrats (damn, I can't spell that correctly
, not the market, are to blame.

First of all, unless that college degree got you earning like a quarter of a million a year, you're NOT goign to feel anything from Obama's tax changes.

Secondly, did you ever think that perhaps it's time to start using OTHER MEANS of fuel, and energy? perhaps Obama is making fuel costs skyrocket so people are more likely to go with the now more economical greener fuels, electric vehicles, etc.

Did you ever think that the huge carbon tax will make it more economical for large power plants to convert to greener, more environmentally friendly power generation methods instead of continuing to consume our fossil fuel reserves, and polluting the air we breathe?

no of course not, WHY on earth would a republican think logically?

That was funny...but a lot of people on this post are very delusional. Obama is not the socialist they say he is and if he starts to do go that route he can be impeached or just not elected for another term. Dems are not moochers and freeloaders and are also not stupid if we picked the wrong man we will realize so and fix the problem but I believe he will lead this country very well.

In understand where you are coming from, but I want to clarify something. Robin Hood gave back to the poor what was rightfully theirs and had been taken fron them. What makes what Obama says he will do so much worse is that he will take from those that have rightfully earned it and give to those who have not. This is not Robin Hoodesque. This is socialism and a return to the welfare state.

Question: assuming the political landscape is already planned out, how do we go about changing anything if our only power as citizens is to partake in crooked elections every few years? should we fight against the powers at be, including billionaires and government agencies? how do we fix a system that is structurally flawed against us w/o a group effort of anarchy and martial law--and how would we even go about organizing such a movement without being leveled into the ground before we even began?

you would prefer that mccain won? That is just ridiculous. We do with what we can. Ron paul was cut out, so we'll have to wait four years before we can get a libertarian in there. even so, i really think that obama will be able to handle this mess, because it all comes down to what the people want. The citizens of america have been selfish and inconsiderate and in return we received a government filled with corrupt individuals who cared only for their own personal interests. With a new president, we can influence the decisions made by actually rallying and protesting about issues that we care about instead of sitting at home bitching and moaning. We make the government what it is, so before the government can change we all need to open our minds and actually use them for a change.

How so? These accusations are made and then never backed up with any facts. Under the Bush Administration, the richest people in the country got a huge tax cut, while the middle class and poor got virtually nothing -- except cuts in social programs that benefit them like Medicaid, Medicare, Social Secuirty, Educational Financial Assistance programs, etc.

So that's okay, but when Obama wants to restore things to the way they were before the Bush Administration it --gasp!-- SOCIALISM? I hadn't known we were a "socialist" country back in the 1990s.

Unreal. The guy isn't even in office yet and so many people are running fast-and-loose with wild-ass interpretations of what he has said (and in many cases things he has never said), so sure of the outcomes. I'm willing to bet the vast majority of you sore losers voted for George minor in '04. So after 4yrs of GWB's running roughshod over the country you couldn't figure out he was dangerously bad news? What about all the garbage that came out of his mouth? You didn't feel inclined to hold him responsible? Yet here we are, not even 12hrs after Obama is elected President, and somehow you have HIM all figured out? I don't think so. If you couldn't decipher the writing on the wall back in '04 and helped put GWB back in office, you are hardly astute enough to surmize a President-elect that isn't even 12hrs old.

Look up the terms you are using if you dont understand them.

And to rikk? i think it is? the guy with einstein for your avatar, but bashing socialism??? Albert einsten proclaimed socialism as the only hope for the future of humanity, as did hellen keller and many other such people, albert also wrote several articles on it. Pointless to state here, though, as im sure most people lamenting socialism on this board have likely never read a single book about it.

Yes it can. Anything can happen now days. Look at what China did, they married Capitalism with Communism. Two Diametrically Opposed systems.

The Republican Party had their chance, and h#ll, we gave them a SECOND CHANCE, (kinda... FL pending) and still, they blew it. Things got worse, not better, and no matter how you slice it, McCain is a republican and will follow party trends. We gave the GOP a bone, and they didn't know what to do with it. Its due time to give the Dem's a shot, if Obama screws up, well, we've dealt with this much, 4 more years of NEW problems might even be refreshing if, that is to say, such problems occur. I had a professor of American History way back in college, and he had a saying "When a Republican is in office, We get taxed. When a Democrat is in office, we get taxed more, but things get done."

If you're an American, and you are for Obama, well then there is no need to complain, and if you're against him, well the election is over, count your losses and pray to what ever God(s) you believe in that its not like the last 8 years.

Seriously people, what a bunch of pure nonsense. im neither democrat or republican, and can see why this post was created.

the republican-dominated talk radio has been promoting obama as a socialist from day one. it was the republican strategy. it was fear mongering simply to sway people towards mccain. next thing you know, other media publications start the scare tactics of a "black socialist".

he's not considering anything truly revolutionary, canada already has universal healthcare and plenty of liberty and freedom. his policies do not equal out to the boogeyman that you bought into.

you have to look through the "hype" and fear tactics, and realize that nobody really knows what he's going to do, until he does it. you could have said the same thing about bush before he was elected. and to rebuff all the negative paranoids that visit this board, its time to consider the glass half full until we're informed otherwise. eight years of negativity is over, whether he makes a difference or not. at least the world will give us another chance for butchering iraq/afghan and other areas of the planet. a chance is better than what we have right now.

While there seems to be some in here who know what is really going on... As for others who are sitting in the corner of the room afraid of the black man...WOW is all I can say! Listen to what you are saying? There is nothing going to happen? This country goes through economic down turns about every 10-12 years? READ about it instead of watching FOX news and listening to Rush.
And while I'm rattling off here... The last time I check Republicans and Democrats were the only two parties who have been driving this country and if your pissed off about where it is today? Then if you voted Republican or Democrat then your the problem! Thats right all Republicans and Democrats want to do is point fingers and blame instead of solving problems your so damn worried about who going to look bad next election cycle you can't see past your own noses.
If your not happy with the state of the union you need to take a look at the past events of how we got here. And then change your direction. If you do what you have always done. You will get what you have always gotten! Plain and simple. Stop putting these idiots in office and stand up and fight to make real change. Republican and Democrats have put this country right where we are now you can not dispute this. So stop falling for this political double speak and think for your self and start a grass roots program to change the government instead of finger pointing.

The carbon foot print tax on oil and coal will cost you many times what you pay on your power bill, now and this will give a boost to "green" technology, but if you see what is happening in Europe they have had early and deep snows and ice again. So the global worming thing is ringing hollow.
Do we need to get away from oil? YES not for the carbon dioxide but because of who it supports.
I believe a lot of clean and probably free energy technology have been suppressed by the "powers that be" you just need to look at Tesla and what Westinghouse did to him.
But remember the cost of a gallon of gas is more tax than profits for big oil, the government is addicted to the oil money also. If the new technology can't be taxed then Obama will not be going to give it to us to replace energy that can be taxed.

Ok, but the President Elect has been claiming to be a Marxist since his School Days. But we will ignore that because it makes people feel better to just blame it all on Bush.

He is a Socialist, He is a Marxist, look at his friends, look at what he believes in.

The reason why people buy into it, is because our country has been poisoned by degrees for so long now, that we dont know we are infected. We are a Socialist Country, Bush just put the Icing on the Cake for that one and Barrack will usher in the fundemental changes that will lock it in permanently.

Ahhh Dear comrade, now zat vee have taken over your government, vee will soon destroy your vay off life. Vee will start by immediately remoofing your puny little handguns and weekend rifles. Zees vill be replaced vit spud guns and von large potato. If your house is robbed you vont injure the robber but at lease he will smell of rancid food. You wil receive 10 point s for each direct hit. Alternatively secure your house and ring the police like every ozer country in zhe vorld. On the plus side, 25000 Americans vill be alive in 12 months who vood otherwise be pushing up daisies.
Ve vill next force you to use a european style healt system. Unfortnuately zis vill be free at point of use and vill be superior to your private health ziztem, but ve will cure you anyway and also zee 40 million comrades not covered by your "superiour" private health model.
Finally Ve vill next change your voting zyztem. Ve know you prefer a zyztem of rigged elections similar to your chinese friends or Sadam Hussein. However ziz system is too costly to fix at each election (notice the failure to vin in 2008). Zo hence forth each citizen vill have von vote. Ziss vont matter as you will still elect a president who vill take care of his big business friends and impoverish your middle class.
Pleese stand by for further transmissions.

Two questions:

1. What are you on?
2. Is there more? I've always been interested in hallucinogens.

No, seriously, it's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about. Show me any information to back what you said above. Show me any information that Obama ever claimed to be a Marxist.

Roads, Bridges, Post Office, all government controlled. Or do you think you could pave a road, build a bridge, and deal with millions of letters and packages a week? Oh and schools, the Military are also government controlled.

Sir, you epitomise everything good about your country. But i believe you're wrong to have such a gloomy outlook about the next four years. The current status quo is geared towards big corporations, big business and the wealthy: letting these guys line their pockets and cream it off your hard graft. They never gave a damn about you. there's half-a-chance that this might change now-- just a little bit.
