What I found amusing is when America does do something to help a country we are the devil.

When we don't, we are the devil.

Pathetic.

Time for the devil to go down to Georgia...

Fire on the mountain run boys run...

Because they hate their freedoms and democracy. Now where have I heard that before. What exactly do you expect us to do? Go toe to toe with Russian.
I think not.

It never stops with one country, as history has shown in Europe twice over now.

At least this time France and the U.K. are willing to sit at the table as the devil deals the cards..

For those interested, here is a brief chronology of events that lead up to the present conflict. It seems to me that the tensions began to escalate in November, 2006

Here is a chronology of events in South Ossetia:

November 1989 - South Ossetia declares autonomy from the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic, triggering three months of fighting.

December 1990 - Georgia and South Ossetia begin a new armed conflict which lasts until 1992.

June 1992 - Russian, Georgian and South Ossetian leaders meet in Sochi, sign an armistice and agree the creation of a tripartite peacekeeping force of 500 soldiers from each entity.

November 1993 - South Ossetia drafts its own constitution.

November 1996 - South Ossetia elects its first president.

December 2001 - South Ossetia elects Eduard Kokoity as president. In 2002 he asks Moscow to recognise the republic's independence and absorb it into Russia.

January 2005 - Russia gives guarded approval to Georgia's plan to grant broad autonomy to South Ossetia in exchange for dropping its bid for independence.

November 2006 - South Ossetia overwhelmingly endorses its split with Tbilisi in a referendum. Georgia's prime minister says this is part of a Russian campaign to stoke a war. April 2007 - Georgia's parliament approves a law to create a temporary administration in South Ossetia, raising tension with Russia.

June 2007 - South Ossetian separatists say Georgia attacked Tskhinvali with mortar and sniper fire. Tbilisi denies this.

October 2007 - Talks hosted by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe between Georgia and South Ossetia break down.

March 2008 - South Ossetia asks the world to recognise its independence from Georgia following the West's support for Kosovo's secession from Serbia.

March 2008 - Georgia's bid to join NATO, though unsuccessful, prompts Russia's parliament to urge the Kremlin to recognise the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

April 2008 - South Ossetia rejects a Georgian power-sharing deal, insists on full independence.

August 2008 - Georgian forces attack South Ossetia's capital Tskhinvali to re-take the breakaway region. Russia says its troops were responding to the assault and Georgia's Saakashvili says the two countries were at war.

-- Georgian forces pull out after three days of fighting. Russia says its troops control most of Tskhinvali.

-- Russia bombs a military airfield outside Tbilisi.

-- Russia says that the death toll in fighting stands at 2,000. Georgia said on Friday that it had lost up to 300 people killed, mainly civilians.

Perhaps because the French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner is in Georgia now with his Finnish counter part and Nicolas Sarkozy is heading to Moscow shortly.

The French seem to be heavily involved in the peace negotiation process.

An old Air Force buddy of mine is a load master currently stationed at Ramstien AB, Germany.

He says planes are being loaded with all kinds of Armour and other goodies, but he cannot confirm the destination, he clearly indicated the camo isnt desert...

That said, the tempo didn't pick up untill over the weekend.

Most of the gear is U.S. Marines and NATO property.

You mention in your post that Turkey bombed the Kurds, implying that Turkey went on a bombing spree targeting ethnic Kurds living in Northern Iraq.

Well this was and is not the case. Turkey bombed and will continue to bomb the PKK. A terrorist organisation as so recognized by the EU, USA, Russia and Australia etc. The PKK were not and are not key US allies. Rather it was the Kurdistan Regional Government which helped topple Sadam. Well, I hate to break it to you but Turkey also supports this faction of Kurds. Their leaders have been traveling on Turkish Government Issued Diplomatic Passports for the past 30 years (Because Sadam had refused to recognize them). So before you absorb your information from ill-informed media outlets I suggest you do some research.

Thus, Turkey did not backstab the US and vice-versa.

I am getting reports ALL OVER, that the US forces AROUND the world are moblizing...

Nothing can be confirmed of course...

But, it looks like something is in the works...

During the 2nd Iraq War, the US Para-droped over 10,000 US forces, complete with Tanks, and EVERYTHING... All done in secret...

This realy is the most terrorfiying moments of my life... im 22... I wasnt alive for the cold war... I have no memories of this... My generation has grown up, unaposed...

On 9/11, the US was attacked, not by a nation, but by individuals, with netwroks behind them... That day is burned into the minds of all TRUE americans... But our existance as a nation was not at stake...

IF we go to war with Russia, our NATION is going to be at stake... thats the brutal reality of it... Every War-Time horror story you can think of will pop back up...

rationing
Shortages
Consription

After 9/11. we had the will to fight, but no defeinate enemy...
Now, we have an enemy to fight, but have lost the will, because of YEARS of war...

The Georgians ARE our Ally... The US is a sheep is she wont defend her allies...

WWIII is not what i want, no one REALY wants to fight WWIII, not anyone who knows what WAR is... not anyone with an ounce of history in them...

But, there are times when we can CHOOSE what we want, and there are times when our Allies choose for us...

The US has legitimate enemies out there, don't forget about of Islamo-Facist friends, but the Russians are an enemy that can hurt us... rather then just piss us off...

Every hour this conflict goes on...
Every news story that comes in...

I feel worse and worse...
These are our allies, our brothers-in-arms, these men fought ALONGSIDE our boys...

THEY FOUGHT WITH US...
They have DIED with us...
They traveled with us to a forgien land, to fight, for an ideal...

Now, thier home is under attack, and we stand idlely by...
Its breaking my heart...

My parents are in this region... and i can't contact them...

Never, NEVER before has a decision been this hard.
Never before have the truth seemed Further away...

So, now, heres a speech to keep your hopes up...

"All this Stuff about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a load of horse-dung. American, Love to fight, all REAL americans, LOVE the sting of battle."

We helped in Iraq - now help us, beg Georgians

www.timesonline.co.uk

As a Russian jet bombed fields around his village, Djimali Avago, a Georgian farmer, asked me: “Why won’t America and Nato help us? If they won’t help us now, why did we help them in Iraq?”

A similar sense of betrayal coursed through the conversations of many Georgians here yesterday as their troops retreated under shellfire and the Russian Army pressed forward to take full control of South Ossetia.
(visit the link for the full news article)

Saakashvili, brought this on himself he thought he wolud have the backing of the US gov and NATO,they are not coming to help and Georgians deserve what they are getting now.

Well, i doubt that Georgias intentions were to begin a WAR with Russia, that makes no sense...

What DOES make sense though, is that Georgia was conducting a Military operation, WITHIN thier own country... Trying to Retake thier own territory...

Is it that simple? No, these Regions ARE Autonomous Regions, BUT, they are not REAL countries... Its just the way it is... Russia thinks of them as countries, and they moved in to help thier Ally...

JUST like the US should move in to protect thier ally...

This isnt easy...
This isnt a easy thing to do...
This is the HARDEST, MOST PAINFUL thing a country can do...

We are going to fight an enemy that is near our equal...

This isnt fun.

No one should be SMILING right now...
No one should be happy...

BUT no one should let FEAR overcome them...

Fear is natural, its how you handle it that makes you diffrent...

Is this going to be scary, (Blank) Yea...
Is it going to be awful, (Blank) Yea...
Is this a mothers nightmare, Yea...

Would we be joust in defending our ally... yes...

I can tell you, that in private, Washington and Brussels will be deeply annoyed at Georgia.

The Georgian President expected Western help. Even if Russia sent the tanks in, America would pick up the phone and ask Moscow to stop. They haven't and America won't. And, the European Union believes South Ossetia should have a peace process - including self determination. Neither the EU or NATO are planning on starting a conflict with Russia.

First lesson of warfare: Don't expect others to fight for you.

Europe basically vetoed Georgian accession to NATO due to unresolved conflicts, so Georgia decided to solve it by attacking Russia. The vanity and ego present here is rancid. We do not applaud the actions of Georgia, no, we shake our heads in disgust. Some nations, like the United Kingdom, objected to Georgian membership of NATO and the EU due to their jingoistic sword swinging against Russia. We knew Georgia was a loose canon.

Starting a war with Russia isn't going to impress George Bush, in fact, it has given the Americans a headache. Whatever happens, NATO nor America, will send the troops in. NATO ruled out that prospect on day one.

Within a couple of days, Georgia will be in ruins and no one will want them in NATO or the European Union. A pointless exercise of warfare and thousands have died for no reason.

Goodness me, what is America, the Death Star of the world? Does Darth Bush have the desire to intimidate everyone using his force grip?

Why the hell would the US want people to fear it? Because of it's own inadequacies regarding it's military capabilities? Why does America have small penis syndrome?

......only it is the world's strongest military power, more like someone with a large penis wanting people to see the large penis, if we are using that flawed analogy

you are being naive if you think the US or the guys in Nato are gonna do anything, this is about the Trans-Caucus oil pipeline and now that Georiga have provoked The Russians they are no longer a useful ally to the US or NATO.If anything Georgia is gonna loose both provinces and the guys who really call the shots will work something out with the Russians and the great game continues.

THE GREAT CHOSEN PEOPLE OF ISRAEL.

The rest of the 'Allys' are just there to be used and abused.

Oh relax. To my knowledge Georgia does NOT have oil and the current powers are concerned with money.

We are not going to get into a war with Russia over Georgia.

I suggest that
USA and NATO don't let those trouble makers such as
Georgia and Ukraine joining NATO,
or you will have to pay for their stupid actions endlessly

yep, very very unlikely to happen *unless some other incident, which as yet has not happened occurs*

What will happen is Georgia will now definitely lose some pockets of land
