Are they Russian peacekeepers? Or they UN peacekeepers monitoring all parties involved in the pack signed in 1992? Which means their monitoring the Russian peacekeepers from another organization.

These are not Russians no. They are part of the UN monitoring team.

Back to that pic with the truck with the orange sign. If you look closely you can see writing on the side of the truck. On the tank part thingy.

Here's a pic from Tshinvali with similair trucks, also note the writing on that tank thingy.

The Russians were policing on their own with the UN's blessing so long as the contracts/agreements were held between the parties involved.
Not really on their own, it was an agreement between all parts involved, it was not an unilateral decision by Russia.

Yes, as stated,

ru.youtube.com...

We are all going to die. I agree that "help humanitarian effort" for the US means something quite different. We are doing this for total annihilation.

Yeah these trucks appear to have the black thin-strip tags with white letters. These tags I recognize right away.

Also these are fuel trucks (except for one towing artillery), as it says "fire hazard" on the side.

I don't recognize that technical terminology. Skillful in delivery, lacking otherwise....

Who cares about who's tanks are who's? The US is landing planes there, prepare for the worst. THe next days, hours...this is the last of life as we know it in the States.

Now, depending on which news source you watch/read, there are two to four carrier battle groups headed to the Persian Gulf.

Now, Yes, I must ask, How far-as the crow flies is George/Russia from the four existing and two to four more coming battle groups in Persion Gulf.

What are the ranges of the combat aircraft???

I do not think is is an issue of range, if you look at the locality between the Gulf and Georgia they would have to fly over Iran (fat chance) or Iraq/Turkey.

So the UN was monitoring the CIS peacekeepers (mainly made up of Russians), Georgians and the breakaway area.

So the UN and NATO do not recognize those breakaway areas and informed Georgian recently that counties are not permitted to join NATO when there is an internal dispute.

One that Russia, an outside country, believes can be resolved by releasing those breakaway areas by allowing them to join Russia.

All the US has delivered sofar is 1 C-130 with 1 million USD worth of tents, matrasses and other humanitairy aid. I would hardly call that the end of the world.

You are putting it all rather bluntly. This very complex situation cannot be described in 3 sentences. Books have been written about it.

It's like describing WW2 in one paragraph. There is so much more to the story.

Wikipedia is a good start, but not nearly thorough enough.

Thanks!

Finally someone talks about it, I thought I had read that somewhere but I couldn't find it, I was not crazy (at least in this case
).

That is something that has been in my mind since this all situation began and people were talking about Georgia joining NATO, I had the idea that I had read that they could not enter if the present situation was kept because no country with internal disputes can enter.

Its not the delivery, its the situation. The United States will have its Secretary of State and Military in Georgia. It is not yet clear that fighting is completely over between Russia, Georgia, and the various Factions.

American assets have been put in a volatile situation. All it takes is one accident.

Well in that case I guess that all those foreign heads of states that are flying in and out of Tiblisi are running that same risk. I think that the Russians will be very carefull not to target them.

Thanks Randy but this thread has covered so much more, it's like the Internets database on the conflict now! Keep it up guys! If I can donate points i'm picking a few people to have some!

Does Georgia, now that it has most of it's forces pushed back, have the capability to hold off an attack on Tbilisi? If so how long for?
(I know it depends on the amount of force Russia is throwing at it) Just theoretically could they withstand an attack from the figures of Russian troops/vehicles we have been given, that have gone into Georgia?

From what i've seen after browsing around, the convoy took care of the deserted base and set up camp an hour away from the capital. Nobody is sure how much of Georgia's military strength is left, if any. If there still is a group to be dealt with, they certainly had enough time to dig themselves in. First Russian forces have to take Kaspi, then Mtskheta in which Georgians have set up positions, if i remember correctly. Also, i think i saw someone mention that a bridge runs between Mtskheta and how they could blow it up to slow the Russian advance.

Although, in the face of massive attack from atleast 70-100 tanks, the Georgians either flee their positions or defend it for a while and may even slow them down, but they wont last long. I'd say they are very demoralised. Russians did install mortars, they could transport them to the front line and shell the Georgian positions.

News about Russians in/outside Gori have fallen silent since a few hours, so nobody knows what's going on, could be Russia is strengthening their position on the main road during the night, or they could just leave tomorrow....

Time will tell.

I don't think the Russians will head out to Tbilisi. The consequences are far too serious to even try that. We don't know the status of the Turkish armed forces, they might get involved at some stage if the capital get attacked. Not even to mention the American reaction.
