That confirms the first version of those news I seen, that the attack was some five kilometres from the airport. The article was changed afterwards to say that the airport had been attacked.

From Italian media:

Two answers in one.

1. The only source of Harlequin's quote that I could find was Russia Today.

2. What tanks invading? I don't understand, sorry.

  • Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili told reporters that 500 Russian tanks have now crossed the border.

Is this what you read by the Georgian President?

I've got no idea thus far - I'm just reporting it as I see it. It would be in Georgian territory, though.

Putin: US impedes Georgia military ops

"I regret that some of our partners are not helping us but in fact are trying to impede us. I am referring to the US transfer, aboard its military transport planes and directly into the conflict zone, of the Georgian military contingent from Iraq," Putin was quoted by AFP as saying on Monday.

www.presstv.com...

Ignoring that it's an Iranian news site, just focus on that quote. Putin is firing some words back at Bush after yesterday's flurry of quotes from western leaders.

And it implicates the US as being against Russia...

The journalist from France24 was in Tshkinvalii, so if those 500 tanks entered Georgia it was not by Tskhinvali.

Russians Push Past Separatist Area to Assault Central Georgia

TBILISI, Georgia — Russia expanded its attacks on Georgia on Sunday, moving tanks and troops through the separatist enclave of South Ossetia and advancing toward the city of Gori in central Georgia, in its first direct assault on a Georgian city with ground forces during three days of heavy fighting, Georgian officials said.

Two senior Western officials said that it was unclear whether Russia intended a full invasion of Georgia, but that its aims could go as far as destroying its armed forces or overthrowing Georgia's pro-Western president, Mikheil Saakashvili.

I think that's quite a few hours old. Here's something else (rough translation):

The facts of genocide will prove in the law court

According to the results of investigation the action against Mikhail [Saakashvili] can be also given to the international criminal court. Georgia is intended to answer by the same - for Russia they will produce action for genocide Georgian in Abkhaziya.

A reporter on France24 (English) is talking about being threatened by South Ossetian troops (didn't see any Russian troops in the capital and the S. Ossetian militia rules now) as the took a group of reporters forcefully on a tour of the city.

No shelling today, and no Russian troops there, and the reporters are all safe.
