Jeebuz. Harsh. Someone thought the rock looked out of place. So did others. So did I. Lots of things looks out of place on Mars.

Considering the positive speculation about possible past/current/future life on Mars, looking behind the rocks doesn't hurt. Even if it's just ......... another rock. One of these days that rock might jump up and slap ya's.

I think it is'nt directly behind the rock, but at som more distance. But it is defenitly a peculair looking piece of rock to say the least.

I wonder what the experts think

Only my opinion, but the rock looks like a bad cloning job to me. If Im right, I think its more interesting speculating on what was there in the photograph before the rock was used to hide something.

Im sure there are more anomalies missing than are shown in all the Mars pics we are seeing just now thanks to some good, and very bad photoshop work.

If it's a "bad cloning job" then how was it that it appeared again 23 days later at the same distance and direction?

that is a blue martian alien being, mooning the rover-

if it isnt that then it is an interesting rock that has two different shades and doesnt make sense really.

Many people in this thread seem to be very happy bashing the OP for posting the image, but I am certainly not one of them. I think it is great that stikkinikki shared this image with us. The "thing" does not look like an ordinary rock to me.

So go ahead. Call me an idiot and label me with some sort of psychiatric diagnosis. I still think the rock looks very unusual and interesting.

Why is it when someone says it's just a rock they're labelled as close minded or a "noob" to use that rather poor term. Look around earth, it'sa fact there are tons of very weird rocks, some you wouldn't believe, just look up the giants causway. If you think these martian rocks are weird that'll blow you away.

Actually i found the images for you to save you the trouble, only because i love the giants causway and it just sort of shows that the martian rocks so far havn't provided anything amazing. Although i must admit those ones that looked like walking people were very cool.

Take it easy. If you look through the thread (at least when it started) alot of the people flaming me had points in the low hundreds. It's cool and my use of the word n00b was completely in love for I really don't care about some nameless faceless internet poster stiking me one in the ribs.

I have had a college level geology course and I am actually a dry stone mason so I know a little something about rocks and geology and the ways that living systems wear them down. I have a place like the Giant's Causeway 2 hours from my house.

If you reread my posts I hope you will find that I accepted the evidence that the rock was just a rock.

I use this symbol:
to accentuate my light heatedness in my comments to "n00bs". Much respect to all who think with open minds that are willing to drop preconceptions in the face of new evidence. I was a "n00b" not so long ago myself.

I wasn't about to draw lines around the alien behind the rock or the rock lizard basking in the sun. I know that some people get carried away with their imaginations and some people get offended by any joking around on this serious
matter.

It does look just like a rock, but it's a pretty cool one. I thought at first it had a couple of trenches in it, as it were, but I think one line is a darker band of minerals, not a depression. It's still a cool rock. But just a rock imo, none-the-less.

I definitely think there is something going on with the sunglass dude. I wish I could steer the rover behind that rock.

Put some sunglasses on your penis and post it on YouTube. Then we can be the judge.

Hey Misfit, that picture you posted solves part of the enigma, seems its just a matter of perspective, like everything in the universe, it has led to wars, to murders and nukes, just because some "see" "things" different than others.

i suppose that in the past some less progressive archaeologists just saw "rocks" and dirt, it was the new wave that started to "see" things in new perspectives, with a clear and open mind, we cant deny the strangeness of some geological features in mars, until we get there all we have is speculation, and that isn't a bad thing considering the circumstances...

I'm sure some of us will keep on looking no matter what...
cheers stikkinikki and ziggystar

BTW, this was one interesting Gestalt exercise!

I find it really amusing that some people are being criticized for just seeing a rock as if it's some major sign of denial.

On first impressions it's a rock, on closer inspection it's a rock that somewhat resembles a penis or if you tilt your head 90 degrees to the right it also looks slightly like someone's buttocks.

If you see anything else then you are delusional in my opinion.

It's weird because I've seen things that instantly look artificial or abnormal but this just looks like a rock and I find it truly confusing that so many people see something more, I sometimes wonder if something is wrong with my monitor.
