Since the other thread died:

why waste your life for a deadly wounded person? he was stabbed in the throat multiple times with a big knive. what whould you accomplish if you survive the confrontation with the armed madman? the best outcome for the victim would be suffocation by his own blood. I'd rather help the other ppl to leave the bus asap and isolate the bastard, which is probably what they did.

Of couse i feel sorry for the victim but there is nothing that anybody could have done to save his life after the first couple of stabs, probably delivered in the same amount of time you need to raise from your seat.

yeah, quite rational and i must admit that i have some thoughts of heroic intervention like strangling the attacker with headphone cables while another bus passenger tries to control his kinve arm , but seriously picking a fight would have only made sense if he went on to attack more passengers, but this didnt happen or was prevented.

This happened not that far from me really, very interesting stuff. The cops are going to release more info tomorrow. I would be very surprised if this was the suspects first kill.

I am willing to bet he is a serial killer.

I have heard much more of what happened, but I do not wish to say.

you know this bus was 1 hour away from my home town, Winnipeg, it was coming here, they were citizens of Winnipeg. I know the murder victim was native and so was the murderer. Unfortunatly Winnipeg is the murder capital of Canada, the Murderer was possibly drunk. Sad story.

I doubt he's a serial killer. Serial killers "achieve" the word serial by killing lots of people. Anyone with the stealthy skills of this guy isn't going to rack up a decent headcount by killing people on packed buses.

Methodical in the killing. Gutting and decapitating...ritualistic?

Premeditated or possessed?

I'm not one to throw around the demon possession theory lightly, but I'd sure consider it in this case.

Also got to thinking about what will happen next with mass transportation security. Metal detectors in all bus stations? Show us your papers please?

Even though this was close to a "top" story earlier this afternoon, 20 years ago this would have been THE top story.

He was looking to get caught. He knew he would be caught. His attempts at escape were more of a joke than anything. This kill was for the shock value and the fame.

I was checking out a map and the location looks planned. The attack was on a stretch of road that is the furthest from any town on that particular stretch. A good amount of time to get the cops out there. (they were pretty quick though)

I am betting the man is from between Saskatoon and Winnipeg and most likely an avid hunter. Basic field dressing skills.

Its not that hard to remove a head (No, I am not talking about a human, but I have done a ton of hunts in my life).

A middle age man does not simply snap one day and kill one person in this fashion, this is something he has "struggled" with for the majority of his adult life.

The guy probably works in the oil sands or another manual labour job (that he can't keep). Lives in a small town, but just moved there. Single, but was in a relationship before, divorced within two years.

Ya the killer/crazy guy isnt gonna get and jail time he'll get sent to a mential institute and we'll never here about him again....to bad we dont hae the death penalty

If you look back on the day of 911, you will find a news story on a guy cutting a driver of a grey hound bus' throat open. It happened here in America, I will try to find that story and post a link to it. The driver lived, I know that much, I think the perp got beat down by the passengers.

if this can happen anywhere, to anybody in any place, the world is gettin fking worse, its like poverty and diseases are not real to us anymore, and its like we get all excited over a mental idiot who probably has a past to make him snap and kill this guy......i think this is going to make canada's laws into american laws.....*death penalty*

Total lack of emotion is often seen amongst suspects in these types of random-rage attacks:

Possible triggers:

If you don't hear any followup on this 'young lady,' certainly a critical witness, well you'll know the fix is in.

Well if something like this were to happen on a bus here in the UK we would have to give him a jolly good thrashing with a rolled up news paper

I'm more inclined to think it had something to do with the 19 year old victim wearing hip hop clothing and listening to head phones.

I could very well imagine a scenario where the victim was wearing hip hop clothing and bopping his head to some hip hop from his ear phones that the attacker perceved as 'trash'. He could be angry at current society and the prevalence of this entire hip hop junk/pop culture and having had a really bad day already, went off the deep end and took it out on this young rap star wannabe kid whom the attacker felt was part of the root of society's current sickness and problems. At least that's how I would feel if this attack had occurred in the U.S., but seeing as how it's in Canada I'm not really sure of the prevalence of the hip hop culture in Canada so I could be off, but that's my theory.

i use to travel to texas from illinois alot, all the way to el paso , and I met alot of real losers. I remember one time a guy had whiskey and a gym bag with a 357 and a 45 in it, he was sharing the whisky with me, and I figured if he was twisted I could get to his guns quicker than he could. What else could I do, push em to use em by talking with the driver?

If I was present during this crime and I had a weapon I would of simply killed him. once again, what else could you do. The victim was a goner, but at least the killer would of been no threat to anyone after he ate one.

Was the guy that was killed an American?
