It appears that the assailant and victim have been named;
Neither one appears to have ANY connection to native Americans!
BBC

The Murderer;
Vince Weigaung Li;

The victim;
Tim McLean;

The attack appeared to be unprovoked and it is thought the killer did not know his victim.

What would it take to get first degree murder in Canada?!

I live here in Canada and that is seriously one of the most brutal stories I've heard yet to face this country... just in this city of Thunder Bay they'res been a few brutal ones too tho... were right next to the minnisota boarder, alot of homicides happen in general for this small town, dump offs in the rivers even just sick... I guess some are pretty nuts to pull stuff like this off...

A lady getting her arm ripped off in a seniors home (ascif court, a seniors lodge bout 4 blocks from my house in forth william thunder bay), someone goin berzerk with a samuri sword (up in port arthur thunder bay) and a kid setting his father on fire under a picknick table (also in port arthur thunder bay)...

just some stories we were talkin about today around the dinner table comparing to todays big headline, this countrys no different then the bad stuff that happens everywhere else int he world...

What struck me as odd was the fact this happened in CANADA of all places!

The most peaceful damn country in the world has the most violent horrific tragedy happen on a bus?

Something doesn't add up.

They said the man showed no emotion while killing this poor boy...

You would think if something had pissed this guy off enough to BEHEAD a boy, he would at least screamed something before he stabbed him..

You little _____ Ill kill you!!!!!! something to that effect!

But nothing?

He was a robot they said........

Something is defiantly not sitting right here......

Im interested to learn what the police found out....

This is so sad, imagine what the boys family is going through

It sounds like it is starting. A while back I hear a rabbi tell a story of an egyptian doctor who was threatened because she refused to cooperate with certain people. She was told they knew of her plans to emmigrate into canada because she feared for her life in egypt, and that they had their spies there as well as assasins and no matter where she went they could reach her whenever they wanted. And couple that with the rumors of sleeper cells for quite some time and now this pops up out of the blue. It looks as if things could turn serious [ freedom wise ] for north amereica in just a few short years if this keeps up. I realize that one incident does not make the case, but it should be noted and filed in the brain.

Im sure the reason why he isn't being done for 1st degree (being such a cold blooded brutal crime) is because they cant even attempt to try someone who has a history of mental problems with 1st degree.
And even attempting 2nd degree is there last hope to try and put him in jail. Because many of these nutters never do a day in a real prison and get out in 5 years from the funny farm.
I mean the guy could be seriously mentally ill thats the sad fact.
In someway having him walking the streets is the fault of the government.
So instead of thinking its just an accident because a mentally ill person flipped, put the blame where it belongs.
All governments think mental health is a joke although they don't say that in public.

Basically what I am saying is that someone who mutilates, decapitates and cannibalizes another human being has no place on this planet.

Don't try to turn this into some kind complaint about American soldiers or the war. This has nothing to do with that. You don't see US soldiers decapitating and eating people.

Killing is just life? That is a really silly way to look at things. Cannibalism, Rape, and Molestation I'm guessing from your point of view is just life too.

Just life. Laws, Order, Justice, Civilization, Government, Security, Honor, Virtue, and so forth are also part of life. Selflessness and Self Sacrifice are part of life. Doing whats right is part of life. There are plenty of places and people who would of introduced that monster to a one way ticket straight to hell and it would be part of life.

The driver, hearing the screams, pulled to the side of the road and opened the doors, allowing passengers to flee. They scrambled over one another and, in their haste, knocked an elderly woman to the floor.

Oh My they were so brave they knocked an elderly woman to the floor as they ran away!

Mr. Caton, who served five years in the Canadian Forces and was closest to the attacker, paused before leaving, torn momentarily between concern for his own safety and the thought of abandoning the bleeding victim. He turned to another man nearby and asked for his help.

Mr Canton served in the canadian forces?? and he paused before leaving? he was torn about weather he was gonna help this guy or flee? what is there to think about??

"I said, 'Give me a hand and let's get this guy.' And the other guy took off," he said. It was only moments later that the victim's screams went silent. Mr. Caton knew he was too late.

The kid was NOT dead when people ran! he was still alive according to this looser who sat around deciding if he wanted to help him!

For more than three hours the man taunted police, moving around the bus and cutting away at the corpse.

3 FRIGGIN HOURS? lets see cops =guns ... a lunatic with a knife? hmm , ok lets just sit here and watch this guy carve up his victim for 3 hours.. how hard is it to take one crazy man out when you have firepower? this is just crazy!

Police praised the reaction of the bus driver and passengers, which they say may have averted further injuries. "They were very brave. They reacted swiftly and calmly in exiting the bus and as a result nobody else was injured," Staff Sgt. Colwell said. "It's not every day that someone gets stabbed on a bus. I imagine it would be fairly traumatic for the other passengers on the bus and the way they reacted was extraordinary."

They praised the reaction of the bus driver and passengers? lets praise the jerks who ran to save their own skin by trampling grannies over to leave her to the hack and slash crazie!

Yes i agree they reacted extraordinarily yellow tailed!

out of 34 people no one could be a hero to help this kid, not even the cops! For 3 hours they let this guy mutilate and abuse this body! so what if he was already dead!! how would anyone like one of their loved ones corpses be allowed to be treated in a most inhumane way? this could have been stopped and gave some respect to the poor victim!

There are to many people sitting by and letting others be beat up, raped, murdered and killed in the streets. Its horrendous. what has happened to helping your fellow man?

whats even more disgusting is this guy will never have to face capitol punishment.

I cant wait to see how the defense attorneys wil spin this to make him sound like a saint even when 30+ people observed this horror. Not to mention the millions of dollars that will be spent on this trial, and then to keep him in prison.

horrible just horrible!

how about I stab you in the neck 4 or 5 times max and see if you "survive"

Well...to this point all they said was a large hunting knife....you are making reference to a butcher's knife...very different. And what they may consider a large hunting knife in Canada could only be a 3 or 4" bladed knife in which case he would have to stab the victim repeatedly in order for him to die of stab wounds.

dude, a hunting knife is for GUTTING LARGE ANIMALS. three inch blade is not a 'large hunting knife'. try seven to nine. try, 'bowie'.

god, is HUNTING 'bigger' in america because you all can carry guns?

back seat heroism is making me sick.

the rest of your rant is based on the super ego, and not the ego, so, i'll just say i disagree with all your vitriol, and i think you should REALLY try and think what it would be like on a three-four hour bus ride, and what it's like it the cramped quarters of a passenger bus.

however, i totally agree with the "WTF?!" aspect of cops watching for three hours. they should have shot him WAAAAY too many times (by accident) as soon as they saw the decapitated head.

I live fairly close to where this happened, and there is a lot of coverage here.

I have also read on some local forums that there are even more graphic details that haven't been released, and may never be.

Regarding these passengers being called cowards, and how there are a bunch of john mclains on this forum: There are police forces and armies that have specialized training in taking down people with knives. This also took place on a bus, a confined space. In the split second of fear and commotion that was going on on this bus, how would you have tried to stop this guy? Think realistically. This guy apparently didn't have a little boxcutter, he had what was described as a 'rambo' knife. So do you grab the guy from behind and choke him so he stabs you in the head? Oh there were many people that could have gang tackled him? Have you been on a bus? how would you even get more than 1 guy near someone to gang tackle someone? The aisle isn't that big. Are you going to climb over seats? Please, subduing an attacker armed with a large knife in a confined space with no specific training is a recipe for disaster. Sure, you would be called a hero, but it would likely be during your eulogy.

As far as the second degree murder charge, it calls for a max sentence of 25 years in canada. This charge can be upgraded anytime. I'm sure they wanted to get a charge on the books and they chose to start with second degree. Is carrying a knife and scissors a means for pre-meditation? It sure sounds like that, but you need hard evidence to show premeditation. From everything reported so far, it seems there is no connection between the victim and attacker, and that it was totally unprovoked. I do not know how the law views premeditation. If the killer has thoughts of killing someone over time, does that constitute premeditation, or does it have to bee a specific person? I'm sure the local prosecutor in portage la prairie has chosen carefully what he did for specific reasons, which we may not understand yet.

As far as a standoff on the bus afterwards. So the cops should have just shot the guy? The only living person he could have harmed while locked in the bus was himself. I know, it is gruesome what he was doing in the meantime, but i dont think there are many RCMP would put their lives on the line by shooting and killing a guy that poses no danger to anyone but himself. I dont think deadly force is 'justified' when it is just a standoff.

Why is this story not more visible on the major US news sources? I refuse to believe that Shia Lebouf's injury being written into his current film (Yahoo!) is more important than this! Though, to clarify, I don't consider Yahoo! a news source, it still disturbs me. I don't hear many news commentators saying boo about this story and I think it bears consideration. Unless there are other interests that are trying to be protected.

Hmmmm....

Wonder what kind of prescriptions drugs this wackjob was taking?

There are certain people that need to be taken out of the gene pool, this guy is definetly one of them. There are no mental health issues out there that excuse this, none that even come close.

Say you were sat across the aisle from this nut job. How could you just sit there, inactive? I realise it may mean you'll get stabbed, but you can't just do nothing...right?

People did go back onto the bus to see what happened to the victim.... but the psycho guy charged and swung at them with his knife. If I remember right he was also stabbing at them by the door when they were blocking it.

Chances are the victim was a goner by the time everyone woke to the realization that a murder was occuring feet away.

The guy most likely hit his neck with the first stab, and even this could end his chances of living.... long.

You have to remember that the police detachments in that area also do not get many of these calls...... bringing out the team to rural Manitoba is pretty.... amazing really.

I don't have much a problem with the police response, technically everyone that could be saved was, including the attacker. There was no way the police could have saved the victims life.

They should have taken him down within minutes, but chances are they were concerned with what this guy might be hiding..... he could have anything on the bus if he already went this far.

Of all the times a taser could actually be used.........

Some weird points:

Alexandra Storey, Mr. McLean's ex-girlfriend, said he sent her dozens of texts as the Greyhound he was riding made its way east to Winnipeg from Edmonton Wednesday night. The 22-year-old Winnipegger was coming home after seven weeks working on a carnival tour of Western Canada.

He told her some of the other passengers were taking ecstasy, a party drug with stimulant properties, and that he was counting down the hours by sending a new text at every town he passed.

He hadn't had a fixed address for several years, his friends said, but would often stay with one of them for three months at a stretch, and then move on. In the winters he worked at various jobs, cleaning and repairing street lights, manufacturing brake shoes, pumping gas and managing a fast-food restaurant.

I hope this guy didn't have a run in with Mr. Psycho killer at one point in their lives...

It was in Canada, unlike the USA most countries don´t solve problems by spraying the area with bullet.

Plus he will be needed for de-programming, so the future mind control´s work better.

The point is they charged him for second degree murder. Yet, he switched seats from the front to the back, and thus had targeted his victim. It was premeditated. I still think he was a sleeper. If it was a drug related crime, no way would he have done this with so many witnesses. It wasn't an honor killing. Was he insane? In Canada, its very important to be very careful about the insanity plea. Psychopaths can pass the tests for mental illness. Some of them still successfully cop the insanity plea. They get indefinate sentences. But, within a few years, they legally must be retested. And they pass the mental illness tests, and are released.
It is a revolving door for psychopathic killer. I can't remember the killer's name who said this, but he did the same thing and after being released was on his 5th victim, I believe, and said: The only thing sicker than me, is a society that allows this to happen.

Knife crime has become more prevolent in society than gun crime.
I like i England and this year alone there must have been about ten knife killings and its only just become August.

It would seem on the face of it that this man is mentally ill, though no one but the killer himself really knows for sure why he did it and if he is mentally ill then even he might not know why.

Second degree murder, that did suprise me a little when i read it but considering the mental illness question it would probably be the best they could go for.

I hope the truth does come out as to why the guy did this and that something can be done regarding the carrying of knives.
