i would also like to point out that I feel the police report is not files with total honesty. If the officer had no made contact with the rider, the rider would have passed by. So where it states the rider ran into the officer... that is false.

The fact that this cop lies on the police report, a legal document, forces me to throw anything else he say happened out and (IMHO) automatically clears the biker of any wrong doing. If this guy is incapable of being honest on his report then he deserves to be fired. Even IF the guy had killed someone, the cop is guilty of submitting fraudulent paperwork, and a good lawer would get him off... just another reason to get rid of this cop. If they cant handle small issues like traffic citations without causing bodily harm to people and without lying on their paperwork they obviously are incapable of performing the job.

We should just do away with these pig pieces of crap. I hate cops with the hottest passion, I wish more than anything that we could just have vigilantes instead of giving power to a select few. We should all have the authority of the law that way we wouldnt abuse it.

To hell with cops, I would be more than happy if they all died.

Dude, I have ridden a bicicle for several of years. and the rule is that you stay to the far right of the road.
This guy, and his buddies, were on the wrong side of the road, yelling and carrying on like some sort of unauthorized parade. And then that guy went to blow by that cop like he wasn't even trying to stop him.
Those biciclists need to learn some respect for the pedestrians and the car drivers. and/or they need to learn how to ride their bikes.
That cop wasn't too far off base. those kids were being assholes. BUT I bet if they were black, they would have been tazed.

Dude, a lot of the bikes were riding on that side of the road! The roads are closed when this event is going on.

It's an event they have once a month in NY that NYPD doesn't like!

From my post on page 4:
Video of Cop Assaulting Cyclist at Critical Mass Ride

"lthough a judge ruled in 2006 that the monthly Critical Mass bicycle rides could proceed without a permit, the NYPD's stance remains somewhat adversarial."

If the problem the officer had with him was that he was riding on the wrong side of the road, why wasn't it in his report that that was why he "attacked" him?

i didnt see him trying to "blow past that cop" I saw a cop standing in the middle of the road with quite a few bikes passing him. If anything the cops are blocking the flow of traffic and forcing these cyclists to swerve around them. As someone else pointed out it was loud, so IF the cop was yelling it is understandable that no-one heard him... that being said, I see no attempts of any communication, verbal or non-verbal. I see a guy on a bike swerving to miss this cop and the cop going out of his way to cause this incident... Is there nothing better in NY for this cop to do than stand in the street and try to knock people off their bikes?

Regardless of what this cyclist did, the cop lied on his paperwork. Case dismissed. Employment terminated.

This is commonplace.

Commonplace.

This is common.

This is not an isolated event. Things like this happen everyday.

This sort of stuff happens everyday all across the USA.

-snipped-

I second this emotion. This type of thing happens everyday.
There is a certain race of people who have been complaining that this type of thing is being perpetrated. This same race of people tried to make the rest aware and warn them of the things to come. They were ignored and they laugh in sadness and disgust.

I live in NYC and this type of sugar mixes with the iced tea all day everyday.

Now the proverbial shoe is on the other foot and America cannot believe what is happening. The police state has existed for decades in many parts of this wonderful country. They have had decades of practice, decades of the mentality being inbred from generation to generation.

I have had my arse kicked when I was younger by NYPD for absolutely nothing. I witnessed a dude get arrested the other night for absolutely nothing. RPC rolls up to the corner and asks dude who he is waiting for. He responds politely none of thier business. They jumped out, tackled him to the ground, cuffed him and rode off. We know better not to question the authority, not on a late hot friday night, unless one wants to spend the weekend going through the system to have it thrown out on monday by the judge.

Im not trying to start any arguments, just making statements to my reality in my world. You all can get sick and tired of all the police abuse. We been asking for help on this for decades and decades. Unfortunately, we have gotten used to it, some of us even know how to play the game.

Get used to it, or do something about it people.

How? its real simple. Go to serve your time on jury duty. If the juries across this country started sending a message, you would see how fast alot of this BS would end.

Help us and we will help you.

This kind of escalation of unprovoked attackts upon ordinary folks from the law, seems the be more the rule than the exception these days. You can't protest or raise any opposing opinions, against the the policy makers, or the Bush administration, not without being stamped as an enemy and/or traitor of United Big Bluff. Well you can... but you will no doubt be forced to indure a #load of tasershots, along with a few choice hits from night sticks. They may even use your body to "polish" their boots before being booked, stripped searched, processed and finally catagorized as a trouble maker. You could find yourself in prison, just for being in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Hell these goosestep motherf....rs, can even break into your house, go through all you belongins, trash your house, bug your phone, home, car, all in the name of keeping America "safe". So it is written, so it shall be done. It say's so , right there in the new revised Good Book, called the PATRIOT ACT.

Question: As an enlightened as people are these days, does anybody think it possible, that american police/military branches can persuade these people to round up their own countrymen, possible friends and/or family. Shoot to kill and ship hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of to these socalled 6-700 plus camps, prepared all over the american country.

I know that, company's like "Blackwater", would have no problem gathering people just itching to start pucking away. These dude's are serious flawed sociopatic assholes, with a combined IQ of 75. Other privately security agencies, might have similar piles of assholes stacked up somewhere. These aholes probably don't even care about money, but get's their jolly's by the hunt itself, if you catch my drift.?

I would love to hear your response to what ya'all mean.

Peace out my brothers & beautiful sisters.

I wouldn't doubt it... aren't the cops required to go through a psychological assessment before being hired? Im not sure correct me if Im wrong... If so it would seem that they are actually selecting those that are willing to act in such ways...

Ya, the cop did it on purpose.. in slow motion you can see the biker avoiding the cop, and the cop running into the biker for no reason at all...

I only more sadden that the mass of people standing by the saw it happen didn't beat and hang that POS in the street.

One day, we won't take this # anymore, and it's these bastards that will pay for it.

What we do not see is if the cyclist did anything illegal prior to coming into the view of the camera. He could have mugged an old lady. He might have crashed into somebody or someone's vehicle. He might have knocked someone over.

This video just doesn't bring enough facts to light.

No, but the police report does bring enough facts to light.

If he had done any of those illegal things you posted then he would have been charged with that too. There is a second cop standing right there. So if this cyclist had commited some other crime why wasn't he charged with it?

I think the video and the police report says all that needs to be said.

I've only been an ATS member for a few years but I've been a competitive cyclist for almost 20, and I hope this mother#er loses more than his badge. I also wear a badge during the day and can't imagine any of my brother officers acting in a manner such as this. This is an embarrasment to anyone in the law enforcement community and I sincerely hope this guy goes to jail and does some serious time. It would be and absolute shame if this worthless piece of crap gets away with this. I apologize to anyone I apologize to anyone I may of offended for my tone, but this one strikes a chord with me...

Well i think this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the "Us V's Them" mentality that most cops in the US have. Sadly you only have yourselves to blame after allowing Bush and his cronies into power illegally not once but twice.

USA was once the leader in the way things are done, not any more. You are all finished unless you start opening your eyes and start standing up for you rights

You deserve all you get, the rest of the world is laughing at the USA.
Enjoy the marshal Law that’s coming your way too.

Wow, you do-gooders are really out in force tonight.
Leave the poor cop alone. Obviously the cops are overrun by the critical ass group.
Critical ass is nothing but a bunch of thugs on wheels. They have no respect for traffic law and are smug about it.
You cyclist asswipes deserve every take down you get.

Try obeying the laws for a change and maybe you will find that people will react in a less hostile manner towards you.

I do my best when driving to give cyclists a wide berth. In fact, I go out of my way when it's safe to ensure their safety and share the road.
However, here in Portland (land of the bicycle), cyclists are constantly blowing stoplights and stop signs, cutting off pedestrians and damaging vehicles.
Compound that with the Critical Ass monthly holiday and it makes for a lot of animosity.

I can't figure out a reason why the biker deserved that. He wasn't gong to fast, he wasn't breaking rules, hell I didn't even notice he was the biker getting tackled until it actually happened. That being said, what rule did he break? The cop is clearly out of line in the issue. If the man on the bike hires a lawyer and preses the issue. The man just might be able to make a case out of this.

Aside from the moral issue and all. That was a pretty effing sweet tackle.

Don't they have bike messengers in NY?? You know the ones I am talking about?? The one's that cut off any car in there path, the one's who put there lives at risk, and the one's who have been in countless movies showing off there SKILLS??

The people who come on this board and try and come up with some stupid reason for something to happen that is WRONG, especially when there is VIDEO PROOF, really piss me off.

Come on sheeple, wake up and smell the BS. We need to all wake up and see what is happening around our Country. If we as civilized Americans can possibly believe that this copper is in the right than we need to get our head examined.

Wow, so because you don't like something, you are willing to give the cops a pat on the back for police brutality and falsifying charges? Can you seriously not see the down side of that? A lot of people don't like people who speed either, so the next time you go over the speed limit, would it be OK if the cop that pulls you over kicks the crap out of you and files assault charges against you?

Or is it only OK when it happens to somebody you disagree with?

Heh. Even the Daily Show covered this. Apparently the cop is an ex-offensive lineman and his dad is a retired NYPD Detective now serving on the Joint anti Terroism task Force in NYC.

Look, there is NO question this takedown was on purpose. The video will get this jerk. The question is whether his ties will shelter him or not. I hope he's out of a job. Remember people, they are supposed to be PEACE Officers, not hired thugs. This is still America, for now...

"He's my son. I'm proud of him. He's third-generation that's been serving the city,"

Okay so he got grandfathered' in, he is a jerk and got what was coming to him; they stripped him of his badge.

All that said, i think the NYPD is Great. I live in queens and i got to tell you, NYC is under control, as far as crime is concern. They don't get in your way, rarely. (when they do that stupid all the cops in line with the light on comin up 6th ave thats annoying i will give it that!).

You see, Manhattan use to be a $h!t hole, and now it isn't. You can walk around any time of day or night, move into any part of the manhattan, no 'sections', and go any where you please. Kind of, There are sections, but is more like kind of people that are there. Like Chealsy is gay, and east village is Hispters. Choose what kind of person you are and who you want to be around. Its sweet.

I think they are doing a good job with what they are given to do. NYC is really only for a select type of people, people with that have a need for more. Sometimes in every way.

Plus cops in ny HATE Critical mass, they once protested at a city event and got in everyones way, since then, they are bitter. This kid is a 3rd gen. Cap for New york, he feels he could and they took his badge. I say go NY for most of you other dirty cops out there in other towns they just stay on the job and nothing happens to them.
whew i love this city-
