Video of Cop Assaulting Cyclist at Critical Mass Ride

gothamist.com

A representative for TIMES UP! tells us that the cyclist in this video was arrested, held for 26 hours, and charged with attempted assault and resisting arrest. One other cyclist was ticketed Friday night for riding outside the bike lane, which is not actually illegal and often necessary, considering how popular bike lanes are for double parking.

Wow, how was this necessary? It is good to see that the cop was stripped of his badge for this.

Here is a follow up
www.nypost.com...

Turns out the cop filed charges that the kid tried to assault him with his bike.... amazing.

Pogan accused Long of purposely swerving his bicycle to block traffic and then using it as a weapon to run down the officer, knocking him off his feet and causing a "laceration" on his forearm. "You are pawns in the game. I'm going to have your job," Long told Pogan, as he flailed and kicked his arms and legs, according to the complaint.

good find
yeah the police have a serious problem in America there is a case that can be made here if the biker sticks to the law and gets a lawyer but the People of NY have to stand tall like real Americans and demand he be fired for this brutal assault for no reason
if that Policeman doesn't learn better manners hes going to be up against the wrong guy one day.

I found the quote from his father to be...interesting

"He's my son. I'm proud of him. He's third-generation that's been serving the city," said Pogan Sr., who was at home in Massapequa Park, LI, today and said he had not seen the video. "These people are taking over the streets and impeding the flow of traffic. Then you gotta do what you gotta do," said Pogan, 51.

You gotta do what you gotta do? How is body checking one guy out of a thousand into the sidewalk, then claiming bogus charges that he assaulted you "doing what you gotta do?"

That is a frightening insight into the mind of a "well respected" cop. Honestly, what happened to protecting and serving?

Wow. I do NOT like cyclists in any way whatsoever when they're on the damn highway or street (seriously, they do impede traffic and they are a safety hazzard and a major incovenience) but after watching this one a couple of times I can't come up with any good reason whatsoever for what the cop did there. The bike was trying to give him a wide berth and the cop actually sped up to ensure he made full contact with the biker. That's beyond messed up and the cop probably does deserve to lose his job and be sentenced for assault over this.

What was that?!

How did he deserve to be taken down like that?
Was the cop having a bad day or something? That biker was clearly trying to AVOID the cop, not hit him. The cop moved quicker, and body-checked the cyclist intentionally!

Was this video used as evidence? I hope so!

I don't care who you are, cop or otherwise, that was plain wrong. What that cop did was assault and battery, with absolutely no provocation from the victim.

He's VERY lucky that didn't spark a riot. Luckily for him, most American people take a "not my problem" attitude to what happens to others. He's lucky he wasn't somewhere like Europe, crowds have been known to take on cops they notice doing stuff like this.

That cop gives a bad name to the rest of the men and women in uniform. Good thing he had his badge revoked.

WOW. That was so incredibly blatant it's not even funny. The kid did his best to avoid the cop and the cop basically went over and KO'd the kid right into the sidewalk. What the hell is wrong with some cops I mean seriously. It seems incidents like these are happening way too often these days. Whether it's cops tasering the crap out of people, it's brutality or something else.

I hope that kid gets a good lawyer and sues the ever living crap out of the NYPD for this.

Watching that video I almost want to say it looks as if the cop just made an error in judgment by trying to avoid the cyclist by running in front of him.

However, the contact made was intentional. Anyone in his right mind would have stopped moving and definitely avoided the accident altogether, as the cyclist was appropriately swerving to the side.

What traffic could he have possibly be blocking? All I see are cyclists on the road and they're all headed in the same direction. I guess this cop just got bored serving and protecting and decided to # someone's day up. Great examples these guys are.

I broke my collar bone in a cycling crash, in a similar fashion to this guy, the difference was that I was in a road race knocked out by a fellow cyclist, not a big cop. Its no joke he could of broken something, hope he is ok. As for the goon cop, I only wish death on him, the police are becoming very abusive its disgusting.
I want that goon hung or fired

i would also like to add the my collar bone cost $11,000 dollars, good thing i have heath insurance. If that guy had any injury from the crash he could sue for a substantial amount of money.

maybe people arent paying attention to this stuff and just waiting for their next reality show but the worst thing we can do is just write that off and let them ignore it. crap like this needs to be shoved in peoples faces. not in the ugly way that would make them wanna body check you, but people need to be emailed this crap. for every email about obama being a muslim terrorist sleeper cell manchurian candidate, i say something like should go back.

I used to think that it was apathy, but now I am starting to think it is fear. Cops like this are getting away with this stuff. If you react to them, you will be very likely tased and brought up on charges. This cops reaction (claiming that the guy tried to use his bike as a weapon to assault him) shows that they will lie to ensure that you get further punished for stepping out of line.

I think that people are afraid.

Fear yeah sure. Fear is bad and scary sure. What we have here is fear paralyzing us, crippling us literally So much fear that this sort of thing has become common place. So trapped by fear that this is normal. Stuff like this happens every day...

Everyday.

Its not breaking news anymore.

Its nothing special out of the ordinary.

It is just another day another victim of this police state.

At what point is rebellion an option? When.

Probably when the fear of punishment becomes less than the fear of living this way.
