and there is one particular large banner sign with large block lettering
which reads in part about condemming..."I S R A E E L"

?? Is that particular spelling intended as a insider's slur, and cryptically
means the Zionist-Israel state...????

perhaps i'm reading too much into the special spelling that the prosters
in the Gaza/WestBank brandish about...but the special spelling seems to
evoke the subliminal connection that Israel is a ideology/government
that is slimy, snakey, slithery....like an 'eel', and that's the hidden meaning
of that unique spelling i often see...

St Udio, that's an interesting possibility and there would be no way I could answer it with any conviction either way. However, I would think that the English skills of the average Gazan protester would be poor at best. So to expect a slight and subtle play one words such as implying the state of Israel to be akin to an "eel" would be unlikely.

More likely would be the fact that when you hear Palestinians and Arabs speak of Israelis they pronounce the word "IsraElis" with a second emphasis on the "e" midway through the word rather than the plain emphasis on "Is" that is common in English.

Jewish People are great people. eg I rented a house in Toronto from a Jewish semi-retired Dry Cleaner man.

Just after myself and girl at the time -split. I had to pay 1400/month before. He dropped the the rent to 1000 and asked if any machines eg fridge/stove/washer/dryer/air/furnace fowl up that I'd pay the first 300.

true enough, but the placard creators are more than likely college educated locals, or else ethnic Arab leaders who are loosely connected to the local community...

the average reident protester is more than likely 'mobilized' and enticed with the commadre' of a solidarity with the community-in-protest
and most likely don't write in english let alone have any inkling of the nuiances(?sp?) of englishwords....
but the crafters of the signs, targeting english speaking viewers (having the TV coverage by Reuters et al)
would possess that type of understanding and use that type of subtle propaganda in these legitimate, but political-science oriented gatherings.

Oh I would agree, but it's not because they're Jewish. They just happen to be Jewish Zionists. I wont pull any punches because some one is Jewish. I call it like I see it irrespective of what race or religion the person may be.

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but my problems with the state of Israel have nothing to do with my feelings about Jews. I am not remotely an anti-semite, my first job was in a Jewish nursing home (where I came to know some Holocaust survivors), I grew up in a heavily Jewish area and Jews were among my first & best friends as a kid. Hell I've probably been to more synagouges than Christian churches in my life.

But the fact is, Israel is a Western colony built on other people's land, seized by force. It's no wonder that the people who used to live there are violent and angry, if I grew up in a refugee camp with nothing and no hope for a better future I wouldn't have too much compassion for the people that put me there either. I'd probably be willing to blow my self up to take a few of them out.

Sucks, but that's reality.

Israel is a Western colony on what was other previously people's land, any way you want to slice it.

And yes, so is the US, but the fact is we slaughtered the vast majority of the people who were living here before, so there aren't enough of them left to put up any resistance.

If the US feels cornered to engage, well then take the land that go's with the engagement. Suppose that's what I meant. Sort of, enough of fighting, maiming and dieing with nothing to show for it less the injuries and deaths.

The fact is that the "region" of Palestine has been inhabited by many people for thousands of years, including Jewish tribes...

I wonder why these same people are "calling to give Israel to the Arab Palestinians" when the Arabs had taken most of the Middle East from other ethnic groups, yet these same people don't "call for these lands to be returned to the rightful owners", such as the Assyrians.....

I wonder if the hangings of British soldiers and Bombings at the King David Hotel as well as other places had anything to do with that. They were the first to use terrorism to gain their independence over the Brits. The Brits were at least smart and gave in...the Israelis are pretty dumb to have thought they could continue the oppression and land theft and not have them fight back.
