I guess you could say I would just like to have it like it was back in the 60s perhaps 70s when no one swore at all on the radio or TV. The way it is now virtually anything goes with the exception of the F word and perhaps one or two others.

As for the music that is a first amendment issue and something SCOTUS would have to address. Personally I think promoting any kind of violence by using words is wrong but that is just me. Appraently one fire depart or city agrees because I gave a link yesterday that showed he might loose his job because he wrote a song about murdering cops

I dont see what the fuss is about ? If he doesnt want to help he doesnt have to. The police cant force him to help them, it is his wish. I could see Bin laden living as my neighbor and not report it, what are the police going to do ? Arrest me ?

I think people should lay off and let him say what he wants. Nobody has to "act" good and do the "right" thing if they dont want to. I wouldnt help the police as well. They are the biggest mob there is.

^ I like that you have gotten back on point about the initial topic. Great.

shots, I understand exactly what you mean, where you liked the old days when profanity on TV/radio was not so prominent. I agree with that, but, if I have a problem with it, I take it upon myself to deal with that problem.

The thing is, I do not mind the beeps, so I tolerate it. I don't even mind uncensored stuff, although I would prefer "cleaner" language, but it doesn't bother me.

Anyway, back to the current topic. I said it before...Cam'ron not wanting to help police catch a serial killer is in no means a "wrong doing."
It can be considered selfish, careless and maybe even stupid in some parts. But I do not think it is as big an issue the way some people put it, or look at it. I won't help the cops do very much either, especially the kind of cops I know.

Al Sharpton Leads March Calling For More 'Decency' In Hip-Hop Lyrics

The Reverend Al Sharpton led a demonstration across Manhattan Thursday evening (May 3) that saw him and throng of supporters march to three of the four major record companies, calling for more "decency" in hip-hop lyrics.

Snip...

It appears people are more enraged and outraged than even we thought," Sharpton said through a bullhorn to a gathered crowd of hundreds. "How many of y'all are ready to keep building and keep going after record companies?

....Sharpton told the group of supporters that he is not on a mission to censor rappers but is urging labels to protect the image of blacks. He cited past instances in which companies have pulled records that were overtly violent toward police or culturally insensitive to other ethnic groups.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Very interesting it would appear that in the past record companies pulled and radio stations did not play certain records. Imagine that

For the record I added radio stations based on what I have heard in the past and let us not forget those stores that have refused to sell certain records, WALMART anyone

Is that what we want? A nation with artistic outlets pre-decided by the system? If that's the case, then any true creativity will be thrown out the window. "Sure you can express yourself, as long as we agree with what you're expressing".

It's disgusting.

It is disgusting. Everyone has a right to listen to what they want to listen to. Watch what they want to watch and so forth.

As said many times before, if someone has a problem with it, that someone should take the responsibility to not listen/view any subject matter that offends them or bad execution of the subject matter(as they see it).

We are already heavily censored. Why try to put a muzzle on us? Tell us what to say, what should be said and what should not be said?

If you don't like it...turn the station to something you prefer to listen to.

It may very well be disgusting to you and other rappers however it would appear there is a growing trend with sharpton and others leading the way. to change it. I mean all they are asking for is decency, what is so bad about that?

The transition back to the old ways would not be that hard all you have to is replace the now popular vulgar words that were once others.

Those swear words worked then and sure could now and they did not include calling girls bitches or hoes those do alone should be repulsive to most since they are meant to degrade ones culture.

what really bothers me most here were the words used originally which were

Rap star Cam'ron says there's no situation -- including a serial killer living next door -- that would cause him to help police in any way, because to do so would hurt his music sales and violate his "code of ethics."
www.drudgereport.com

Note he uses the term there is no situation, which frankly has to be any out right lie. if some one tried to kill him you can bet your biffy he would call the police if he was the target which to me implies he is lying thru his teeth, it is human nature to call and or turn in people if you are attacked. Yet he is trying to convince people not to turn in their brothers and sisters who openly commit crimes against the community. Kind of a double set of standards as I see it.

There's a case in Sacramento, CA right now where a fight started at a club called the Library. The fight moved outside and one person pulled out a gun and shot. The bullet hit an innocent woman across the street. She was shot in the head and I think that she just died.

The police are frustrated that none of the witnesses will talk because they don't want to be a snitch. The shooter is described as a black man with shoulder length dreads.

Each and every day we create the environment in which we live. Unfortunately these people want to live in an environment where an innocent woman can be killed and the murderer will never be brought to justice because no one wants to snitch.

So your concept of vulgarity is a blanket rule that needs to be applied to everyone? Why is it so hard to understand that different people have different tastes, and forcing yours on others is not only rude, but against everything our founding fathers stood for.

And in regards to changing the words so they "fit better" into your definition of the world, it reminds me of Orwellian newspeak

Newspeak is a fictional language in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In the novel, it is described as being "the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year." Orwell included an essay about it in the form of an Appendix (in the past tense)[1], in which the basic principles of the language are explained. Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar. This suited the totalitarian regime of the Party, whose aim was to make any alternative thinking ("thoughtcrime") or speech impossible by removing any words or possible constructs which describe the ideas of freedom, rebellion and so on.

Wildbob you dont know why these people wont sniych so you dont need to make assumptions about what type of environment they want tot live in. Why snitch when you can get harrassed by the criminal AND the police.

Shots I already mentioned walmart in my previous posts..if you want edited music then get it dont force every one to listen to CLEAN music if we dont want to.

Once again I'm asking a QUESTION. Those of you who feel cam'ron is wrong and that you can turn police to help you..how many of you with this mentality are a minority and live in an area where the police are corrupt..where the police have brutally attacked people..or left people to die in the hands of criminals due to their inaction or slow response? If you did then i doubt your opinion would be the same. If you live in an area where the police behaved the same as criminals then of course you are going to develop this mindset. What do you expect?

You keep missing the main point here. Why is using the F word so important when others can and had been used for years.

example you could say get the hell out of here instead of the current praise. Or you could say shut the hell up instead of the current.. What is the difference, both are a form of profanity are they not?
Does is make you feel real macho or what?

Why do rappers insist on referring to women as Bitches and hoes. In my opinion when you degrade them in a manner like that you are just showing ignorance. Even ATS Censors say so. If you are against censorship so much why are you posting on the internet it goes on daily. That was not meant as a digg either I am simlying pointing as I have seeral times already while you consider it as a form of free speech there are others who do not

All you and others have literally done is drag a culture further into the gutter, why you cannot see that is beyond me.

Just for the record I lived in an area that was 90% African American and 10% white from 1949 thru 1956 and I never developed that mind set neither did our neighbors and their neighbors who were African Americans so I can state for a fact you are absolutely wrong. No drive by shootings either and when anyone committed a crime it was reported by both cultures or I should say all cultures there were a few others who were from the far east.

That mindset has only come about in the past decade or so. Not sure of the exact time frame but I believe it is not more then 20 years.

I did not say JUST minority but minority AND the police in your neighborhood were known to be corrupt/discriminatory in the way they responded. ..ie being slow in an urgent situation, harrassing citizens etc
(For the record black cops can be just as bad as white cops against their own people... Has anyone seen Boyz in the Hood if you have you know what im talking about)

Implied, I think some people prefer to live in a fairy tale...it's easier to cope. I dare shots, or Wildbob to come and live why I live in Trinidad and practice what they preach. They won't last very long here.

Evolution is adaptation to your environment. 1s the mind changes, then the body. In this case, we're dealing with the mind. If you were to live where I live, your mind would change ever so quickly.

You make a good point shots, when you said that why not use the word "hell" to replace the f word. basically, what is wrong with substituting words in place of other words. You then mentioned, what's the difference, they are both curse words. Then shots, what is the difference, seeing that they are both curse words? Maybe one is worse than the other? Define how this is. Afterall, we all know what the word Hell means...yet the f word has no real meaning. It has a lot of uses though...adjective, adverb...etc...

I will make a weak point here, but a point none the less...there are times(even times for you shots, I'm sure) where the f word said exactly what you wanted to say. Wherever the word came from, I'm sure it was used because it had a purpose. Many a time I would be upset and the words "I am very angry" just doesn't say what I mean. Ya digg? "Get the hell out of my house!!!" - No...am..no...it just doesn't bring the point across. I am not making excuses for the f word. I am saying, it has it's place...if you do not think so...do not use it. You don't like to curse shots..then don't curse. You have a problem with a rapper or actor saying the f word...either ignore it & listen to what they're really saying, or watch another movie or listen to another song.

A guy tells you to "F**k off!!!" instead of saying "Buzz off!!!" because "Buzz off" doesn't quite let you know exactly how he feels...and you have a problem with it...call the police. Maybe carry him to court and get some money out of him. The main point...again, is that if you have a problem with it, you deal with it so that you live a more comfortable life. People are not going to stop cursing, or whatever you see as a problem because you and a few other 'apparently important groups' of people have a problem with it. Understand that. I don't know about you, but if I catch my girlfriend cheating, the word "hell", or "sucks" is not going to come out of my mouth...unless I'm telling her to go to hell, in which case the f word has no use...then again..."Go to f**king hell" does make more of a statement I guess.

Well I lived and worked in integrated neighborhoods most of my life and I never had any of the problems you are talking about until after I retired which is coming on ten years this month. I really should make that I have never experienced any problems because even now that I am retired I have only had one bad experience with the police and that was when my dad hit one and ticked him off up until that point the man had been very civil. Again for clarity I have only heard about problems in minority areas over the past ten years perhaps a litlle longer but not by much as I can best recalll. Now I see you mentioned Trinidad, give me a break here I thought we were talking in the US.

Just for the record name these alleged places were cops are brutal? I have heard of a few like LA NY CINNCINNATTI New Orleans, and a few others whose names elude me but I want someone to be specific.

I live out in the country where people are likely to return fire and then call the police.

It's a nice area. People are very friendly.

I'd also like to add that I've lived in a big city and I'm not interested in living there any more. If I witnessed a shooting, I'd tell the police what I saw.

I believe that you create your own reality. I've made choices that have allowed me to live where I do. I think that the choice to not be a snitch is just that, a choice. I think that it helps to create a reality that sucks.

I was going to start naming cities but that takes too long. How about this take all of the majo cites then add hundreds of small hick towns in the south. I know we have had alot of incidences in jacksonville...gainesville, orlando, miami, tallahassee, atl...but those are just the areas closest to me. But you also have to think alot of issues are not always picked up by the media...and only 1% of the ones that are get picked up by national media. We have had issues in jax, fl with people in the county jails being beaten one man was having a seizure and was beaten another had his neck broken after being thrown in a police car..then there is that boy who was i boot camp in fla that was beaten... I'm sorry that you have havent experienced what we have been describing but you are lucky.

Am...for your info shots, there is more to it than just "Trinidad". The fact remains the same, just because you have no problems with police and you never experienced problems, doesn't mean others haven't. You can't speak for everyone, just your self.

I'm not saying everyone has problems with the "justice system", I am saying some do. Some are more affected by it than others. You and maybe many others may not be very affected by it negatively...other people are though.

I am 100% certain that if you were in Cam'ron's shoes you may change your mind about where you stand on the matter of co-operating/helping/aiding the police. I, myself would only co-operate with certain police, to a certain degree...anonymously.

There is nothing wrong about what you and Wildbob are saying really, but you can't possibly think that everyone's area is like yours? That's absurd. Speak for yourself people. And I am certain that you know in some situations and some places you, yourself may not be so willing to provide aid for the police.

Also, sometimes the police may not be the problem, it may be the associates of the people you are "snitching" on...and if the police do not care about you, for whatever reason(racism, money, power...whatever) and do not care to provide you with the amount of safety you may need(sometimes it's alot of safety, believe me), you'd think 4 times before saying/doing anything, because sometimes "If they don't get you, they'll get ya mans and them".

Ah yes lets lump all major cities together add in a few hick towns sounds like mass stereotyping to me. and it is not the right way to do it. I went and found a few sites one alleges Mini Noplace MN as being bad so I went to one site to check out their files only to find the vast majority were dismissed exonerated or not up held which implies the possibility the allegations were in fact false. Now I ask you if the police were in fact as bad as this group claimed where are the charges against the officers??????
Could this just be mass steortyping all cops are bad cops Hmmmmm??????

Communities against police brutality

Oh I forgot to mention the few allegations that were upheld were language allegations. Amazing you stand here and say you want free speech yet some people figured they would charge police with using bad language, kind of hypocritical wouldn't you say?
