A naval surprise
"The first concerns the USS Ronald Reagan, an aircraft-carrier that is at the centre of yet another carrier battle-group that may be heading to the region. The Ronald Reagan left San Diego on 27 January at the head of a powerful force that included the guided missile-cruiser USS Lake Champlain and the guided missile-destroyer USS Russell; both warships are reported to be equipped with scores of sea-launched cruise missiles."
"A third carrier battle-group deployed to the region would be a clear sign that, at the very least, a major show of forces is in prospect; but in another sense, and from a rather different angle, that is beginning to happen already."

There have been many references to the decline of the petrochemical industries of Iran.
*snip*
In my mind this statement appears to build a strong case for the large oil companies actually wanting to go to war with Iran....
All the best,

This is not the first time Iran has seized British sailors for allegedly intruding into its territorial waters - the same thing happened to eight UK servicemen in 2004.
But this time there are reasons why it could be more serious.
The incident comes just two days after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave an unusually aggressive speech to mark the new Persian year.
He said: "In case the enemies of Iran intend to use force and violence and act illegally, without a doubt the Iranian nation and officials will use all their capabilities to strike the invading enemies."
It was an oddly defiant and hostile tone to strike for a new year speech.

The Times of 18th March published an article where the president of Iran is quoted as threatening to kidnap "blue-eyed, blond-haired Europeans" in response to an alleged kidnap of revolutionalry guards inside Iraq. This makes this kidnap a pre-meditated act of war.

Iran would be insane to start a war. No one believes Iran could win a conventional war with the west. They don't have the logistical capability for a prolonged event. They depend too much on foreign equipment. Now could they get Syria involved? Well whats in it for them? As far as the west invading Iran, well if I was Iran,my concern would be more with Israel.

I hope there will never be a war against Iran.

IRAN is threatening to retaliate in Europe for what it claims is a daring undercover operation by western intelligence services to kidnap senior officers in its Revolutionary Guard.
“We’ve got the ability to capture a nice bunch of blue-eyed blond-haired officers and feed them to our fighting cocks,” he said. “Iran has enough people who can reach the heart of Europe and kidnap Americans and Israelis.
