Sooner or later the 'New Rome' that the USA is will fall... whether its a gradual shift, or a war, or 'babarian' invaders like the 'old' rome, then end will come sooner or later. When it does happen the world may be in turmoil for a while but it could also be like how it happened when the USA took the power spot from the UK... Two major wars threw the UK out of whack so the US, being away from the main war zones flourished in the post-war envirinment. My prediction is if the fall of the USA happens in the near future the EU or a european power will take the 'power spot' in world politics... or otherwise the world will be united, which in itself would cause probelms. Another point to take into consideration is as time passes the lifespan of specific empires decreases, so while the egyptian empire lasted for 1000's of year, the british empire lasted a mere 100's but who would hae had more power and influence over all? The Brits.
The USA isnt an empire in the traditional sense, it doesnt occupy countries but uses heavy economic and military pressure to make countries succumb to their demands, the US is a very very militaristic nation and i wont deny life for the upper-middle class and up there is probably great... but its great here in aus for all classes.
I for one will not weep when the fall comes.

Hmm...you do strike a good point by saying that we're not an empire but yet we try to succumb our wealth and economic prosperity. One day the U.S will fall...although I will hopefully be dead before that day comes. By the time the U.S falls apart (if it does), people would have made other alliances and another country would become the next zenith.

I would like to know where your from and we can compare our backgrounds and our experiences and family experiences and you can they truly debate decide if I deserve the title you unfairly labeled me as "idiot".

Although the US is one of the most powerful countries in the world, it's also one of the youngest. You have to realize that many countries and empires have stood long before the US and they're not far behind from us. Alot of them have been ravaged by wars and other national disasters far worse then what we're going through today, and yet, they're just as powerful as us.

China for example. 2000 years of war, starvation, and civil and potilical conflict, and they're catching up to be the world's new super power. Take Japan for another example. They've been isolated from industrialized countries of the world for hundreds upon hundreds of years, and when they were exposed to the outside world, they slowly became recognized as a world power.

I think it's a bit early to decide whether America will become obliterated or not. There are signs of trouble in the near future, but I don't think that the US will fall until alot longer. There are plenty of people that are willing to destroy the US, and alot more to defend it.

America will not be defeated by Terrorists, or an invasion, or nuclear weapons. America will not stop it with nuclear weapons.

America will be defeated because of debt.

When the rest of the world decides America must be stopped they will simply sell their dollars, and US securities.

America has no way of stopping that, and there is no way to survive as a superpower after it.
