Here is an interesting spin on these riotes and possibly why they (the French) are letting them continue:

Boost for Sarkozy?

Interior Minister's Nicolas Sarkozy has outraged many inhabitants of the estates by saying they should be "pressure-cleaned" of all the "scum" who live there.

But such comments may go down well with a part of the electorate ahead of the 2007 elections which are already dominating French politics.

Mrs Jallon's husband, also a teacher, was not sure of the exact mathematical relationship between the numbers of cars burnt and votes for the right-wing but said the violence would definitely help candidates calling for tougher law-and-order and immigration policies.

Some young rioters in Aulnay said the violence would continue until Mr Sarkorzy resigned for his insulting comments and what they see as racist policing.

It could be that on the contrary, they are actually helping his election campaign.

I think we're getting hung up on the word "religion" here. What the problem is in France, Birmingham, Denmark or elsewhere is a Race or Cultureissue, which is entirely different to what religion they practice.

What cannot be denied, is that recently in several European countries now, there have been lots of riots and extensive damage over relatively minor things that have been caused by those of a muslim descent, rather than focusing on them soley as Muslims, then denying it is Muslims because they dont do that...

Well, obviously someone is doing it and its not the indigenous Ethnic French population!

It is the immigrant populations all over that seem to think it ok to burn and loot like animals over what should be matters for the courts, not mob rule. This is Europe, not darkest sub-saharan Africa or Tribal desert dwellers in the ME.

They should learn that this behaviour is completely unnacceptable, learn the correct way dealing with issues and count themselves lucky we took them in and they're not in their home countries, otherwise they'd all be dead right now.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this,(it's a long thread, i came in late) but this kind of "event" has occured twice in Australia recently.

The Redfern riot: January 14, 2004

Rioters set fire to a train station and pelted police officers with gasoline bombs in an Aborigine(sic) neighborhood here during a nine-hour street battle that began after a teenager died, reportedly while being chased by officers.

The unrest followed the death of a 17-year-old Aborigine, Thomas Hickey, who was impaled on a fence when he fell from his bicycle. His mother said officers were chasing the youth, which the police deny.

It seems there are striking similarities between these two events and what's occuring in Paris right now. The people of Redfern aren't terrorists or immigrants, they are the original inhabitants of this country.

The people of Macqaurie Fields could be unfairly pigeonholed as "white trash", again, not terrorists or immigrants, more to the point they live in an economically depressed suburb on the fringes of Sydney in a poorly designed public housing project.

Now compare the above two incidents to the quote from the original post.

The riots started last Thursday after the electrocution deaths of two teenagers who ran from a soccer game and hid in a power station in the northeastern suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois after they saw police enter the area. Youths in the neighborhood said police chased the boys to their death.

It seems like people in bad situations responding desperately in response to a bad incident occuring. And it can happen anywhere.

There's another interesting parallel to all this, each of the three groups mentioned above are often considered pariahs.

When you're living on the edge, it doesn't take much to tip you over.

Europe has a history of ridding itself of undesired minorities, see Nazi Germany. I'd rather bet on the US bowing to Mecca in the long term than on Europe. The last two times the US picked side, they sided with the muslims, attacked Serbia and forced the Macedonians into appeasing.

That type of thing really angers me, both the rape and the replacement of the native population.

In a fit of absent-mindedness, Sweden has suddenly become as heavily populated by minorities as any country in Europe. That is what it is like in my town, Reading, UK. So much so, that I am going to pay £1600/term to send my daughter to a private school once she is of age. It is not a race thing, it is concern over the fact she will not mingle with a balanced set of people, rather than the two schools near me which are 95% Muslim.

It just so happens that I live in the town centre, where most immigrants congregate. If I could afford to live out of town and still get to work easily (I dont drive), the schools will be 95% English.

But, the situation I am in and the catchment areas I fall under would mean my little girl would end up going to a school that is not represenative of the Nation and she may very well become assimilated into what they believe.

Even the teachers at these schools are Muslim. No way will I let her go there, hence the stupidly large bill. Fortunately, I can afford it, but many can't.

Rape has always been used as a weapon of war.. it not something thats used exclusively by one race and not another. I am certain that if western countries had civil war it would be happening in those as well.

yes race culture are two 'parts'...but lets add economic situation and world-view which is fundamentally constructed from the religious ~ training & instruction people have grown up with throughout their lives. be they Muslim or Christian or Hindu, et al

who migrated to Australia, in his own words he thought he had died and gone to heaven to be in Australia and went on to make a great living for himself helping out new immigrants.
