Yeah, my sister is in North Ft. Myers.
It really sucks, because she was supposed to come home for a visit this weekend. She hadn't been here in several years.
I spoke to her Sunday and they were hunkering down. We got the text last night that they could not get out on Friday for her flight up here.

To you and all the other Floridians.
My son was watching one of his dirt track buddies in Florida this morning, and they were reporting that some Dump in the area had locked its doors, not taking any more debris from Helene and that DeSantis had the lock cut off.

Any truth to that?
Goes to what you and DeSantis are saying about getting as much debris out of the way as possible.

If you don't have a mortgage it is not required. You are only required to have home insurance in the state of Florida if you have a mortgage or a line of credit against your home. If you own your property you are not required to have insurance. If you own your property you are not required to have flood insurance if you are in a flood zone.

Home insurance also traditionally doesn't include flood insurance, that is completely separate and again only required if you are required to have home insurance and are in a flood zone. Some carriers you can add it but the majority do not.

Florida insurance is a mess. I work in the industry as an underwriter. I think flood should be included in home insurance, none of this separate garbage and only if you are in a flood zone. Any place can flood with enough rain esp here. The whole industry needs a re-haul!

I am on the Space Coast. It is coming my way after it hits the west coast. I am getting water and stuff today, then I have to work. I work in insurance! I am an underwriter. It is crazy here right now.

The Nat Guard have been deployed to clean up remaining debris in areas affected by Helene, but man I have got to say. I have never seen clean ups this quick in the past. The state is dead serious about returning to normalcy as soon as possible after each storm. I drove through all the neighborhoods last night that were submerged during Helene. They were littered with debris for days, entire contents of homes emptied out on the curbs. It looks like the landfills were temporarily moved to the streets. Last night, I barely saw one or two houses every other block that may have had debris piled up. Maybe just late arrivals or slower sorters for whatever reason. But from the outside, these neighborhoods all look like normal like nothing even happened.

I don't think most of them refurnished that fast regardless of their income levels so I cannot fathom that there will be much debris from inside homes to throw back out onto the curbs after this storm.

Have they switched the south side of I75 to be north bound to relieve the traffic yet? I believe that was done previously. Maybe a long time ago. Can't remember exactly when.

My nephew left this morning to stay with some family friends who are at least out of the flood zone. That's a relief.

Thankyou for replying so thoroughly. I'm retired from the Insurance Industry but still do free-lance work when called upon.

You are 100% correct about the industry being in such dire straits. I don't know which will collapse first... Health Insurance, or Home Insurance, or Auto Insurance.

In Florida, I think most of the rebuilding is done with Federal Government $$$. It seems every Hurricane that's CAT-3 or higher sets a new record for dollars spent to rebuild. I guess as long as those funds keep coming, rebuilding will continue.

It's amazing (to me) that Florida Property Taxes are not higher.

Florida ranks at #26 nationally: www.rocketmortgage.com...

Why in the F*** would it be mandatory?!??!

CAR INSURANCE is optional where you live? Must be, because I couldn't imagine MechTech87 living in a state where it is mandatory. Am-I-Right? 👍 😁

I am not certain about I-75 proper, but the 275 loop in Tampa was functioning like normal. We have not driven 75 to a job site in about two weeks and its about a twenty minute drive for me to just check, but probably not to be honest they usually do a news coverage on that and so far nothing.

I just wanted to add, does it look like Milton is just chilling there off the Yucatan like it does not want to move? it has just been sitting there, not really going anywhere for like 48 hours now. It just kind of collects and hovers. Shouldn't we be sending thoughts and prayers to them, they have got to be being lashed hard right now. Kind of strange how little it is traveling.

I'm in a flood zone, on a suburbanized old flood plain, below 2 dams, and I can't even get flood insurance. I also live in an earthquake zone and can only get earthquake insurance through the California Earthquake Authority. I don't have a mortgage, but I do have homeowners' insurance.

Good luck to all of you in the hurricane path. Stay safe. I hope clean up is swift and the human loss and toll is very low.

Good luck to all in the path of Milton; she looks very strong.

After the storm and when access is allowed I plan on a Florida vacation to try a little metal detecting treasure hunting. Storms kick up a lot of buried things on the beach.

I hope it continues to pick up speed. The faster it can get across the peninsula the better.

I understand, lets just hope it doesn't reach cat5, stallsout and heads north.
