Word is National Australia Bank has been hacked. There internet services are down while the other banks still have some functionality.

Would this outage be a great cover for all kinds of online shenanigans

Tracks are being covered as we speak. Somebody needed this level of outage to get some critical scrubbing done.
I wonder who?
And pertaining to what?

It's impacting flights in the U.S.
Looks like they are grounding their planes till they straighten it out.

Global technology outage disrupts flights on major airlines

Delta Airlines issued a statement early Friday morning announcing that all flights were paused as they work through a technology issue.

The issue arises as multiple major airlines, including American Airlines and United Airlines, issued similar statements.

The three airlines and Allegiant Air grounded flights less than an hour after Microsoft said it resolved its cloud services outage that impacted several low-cost carriers, according to Reuters.

It is being blamed on Crowdstrike, but I wonder how much of this comes down to the entire world tolerating Microsoft's monopoly on operating systems for other than Apple personal computers.

MS always had bloated software and has gotten no better in that regard. The Windows patches come off as being band-aids to a patched-up OS that needs a complete redesign.

Cheers

yes, yes it would be. Especially if someone or thing is trying to keep specific skies clear from public travel in order for discreet travel by forces wishing to go unseen?

I wanted to add there was a pattern of this exact kind of corporate sabotage and compromised databases a few short years ago that happened globally as well. This is State level sabotage IMO, and a rival adversary is likely more to blame than Crowd Strike. Just like real terrorists, the government never wants to admit when a real one gets through, because it would be an admittance of failure and shows vulnerability and weakness.

I may need to move some equities into cash reserves instead soon. Last time this happened many of these big companies suffered share price losses which affected a lot of peoples IRA's and 401k's .

Crowdstrike admitted the problem was a bad update of their software.

Funny you mnention this, thought I would check flight radar24.

At this moment there are 5 high altitude barometric balloons over the centra United States,

I have never seen Balloons showing up on there.

They at about 60 thousand feet. Strange

Does any one know if weather balloons have transponders?

I suppose f they didn't have transponders they would not appear on sites like Flight Radar 24.

Well we should not dismiss the fact that China has sent a record number of aerial assets over Taiwans air space violating their sovereignty and were seen just this past weekend bombing out mock USAF planes and infrastructure on their own training grounds. One should not automatically dismiss the possibility of these acts and locations being connected.

I may even go as far as to say, it almost looks like China is doing what Russia did just prior to invading Ukraine. The number of planes and the types they keep violating Taiwan with are increasing. What happens when that volley approaches a hundred, and a massive Naval flotilla escorts it?? I think China is going to make a move before year's end.

Microsoft suggests switching it off and on againā€¦ 15 times
published at 13:28

Imran Rahman-Jones
Technology reporter

Microsoft has suggested a fix on its website, external ā€“ and itā€™s a solution many office workers will be familiar with: ā€œHave you tried switching it off and on again?ā€

Thatā€™s what Microsoft says has worked for some users of virtual machines ā€“ PCs where the computer is not in the same place as the screen.

Microsoft says: ā€œSeveral reboots (as many as 15 have been reported) may be required, but overall feedback is that reboots are an effective troubleshooting step at this stage.ā€

It has also suggested deleting a certain file - the same solution some Crowdstrike employees have been giving on social media.

***

You may never have heard of the anti-virus firm Crowdstrike before, but something the company did to its virus scanner Falcon had a very adverse effect on computers running Windows software ā€“ in their millions.

Blue Screen of Death was reported worldwide.

Microsoft was quick to say it was a ā€œthird-party issueā€ ā€“ in other words, not its fault. Apple and Linux users, unaffected, rejoiced.

It's a poignant reminder of how reliant the world has become on devices managed remotely by huge companies, and how powerless it leaves us when they fail.

***

There are loads of delays, so even though our airline says their systems are not affected by the IT outage it seems like we might be here for a while.

Lots of the people Iā€™m meeting are coming from other places ā€“ and weā€™re all sharing photos of the queues at our airports in our group chat and playing bingo to see who is stranded closest to where weā€™re going.

www.bbc.com...

Many airlines stated they have cancelled incoming flights so the effects are going to be felt for days.

Any evidence at all this is a cyber attack?

The big issue in IT world right now is because of an update, which everyone worth their salt in technology knows that its a huge PITA when an update rolls out.

Amazing how easy it is to cause such huge problems in our tech dependent globalized world-they are saying its down to just one particular software update..

But this is exactly the sort of thing we would see just before some hufe event-like China going for Taiwan or an event which pulls NATO into direct war with Russia.

So I will not rule out this maybe being a dry run-or a live exercise?

Also I wonder if this event has been highly enriching to someone financially-which may suggest foreknowledge.

It was not a record amount, it was 66 craft which was the most this year, but not a record. The problem with china sea, is that all these nothing-papers always blow alot of hot air into their balloons to try to make them float. This causes a cry-wolf scenario, unfortunately.

So what was the record number of aircraft of bomber, fighter, and early warning types in one shot to violate their air space set prior to this? And what is the current status of their naval forces buildup? Did they send a larger show of force last year? I know they had some heavy naval blockade simulations. Or were they simulations at all ...
