We made an attempt and I tried to create a membership program but was told that we only wanted to drive revenue from banner ads. Then when that didn't work I ran an activity report that basically showed that it was a sticking ship. That's when Matt decided to get rid of it.

Then db goes down, old mod accounts get locked out, with some convenient weird posts coming from some of those accounts, as if there was some malevolent actions occurring...
A "ghost" restores access to a select few mods, at least one of which invested money in the purchase of the site...
And no, this isn't WordPress. PhpBB maybe, or something close to that with some custom mods.

How do you know that?
'Ghost' kicking in the back to sort out the password mess is the story I heard too for how the mods regained control of the sight as the trolls where on a rampage.

Come on people...
Site gets sold.
A bit before the database issue, there were posts in the tech section asking about SQL queries.

Ownership transfer complete, in spectacular conspiracy fashion.

As you know from our many previous conversations (here, off-line and elsewhere), I am pretty objective and generally don't just arbitrarily jump to conclusions with no basis.

I don't see a lot of evidence to support this, else why would so many of them be asking the questions they do?
If a 3 letter agency bought it, you can bet they would have canned the mod team and brought in their own lackeys. I think the owner is being given too much credit.

It's always fun to watch the cynical lens of our skeptics community target its own platform, and really it's no surprise to anyone. Hi FBI! Hi 3 letter agency goons! Feel free to join the club and participate! There's no reason we can't be friends
Anything is possible, anyone really, since we don't know absolutely anything.
But my gut feeling tells me it's not one of our own. I think the owners are probably a re-lettered KGB agency, maybe even MOSSAD.
I have no proof of this, this is just my 2 cents. A feeling I've had for a while.

Those that think it's some big conspiracy. Who do you think are the CIA or Russian agents? Which members(don't answer that)?
As you noted, I don't think we're actually allowed to have this discussion. But it would be so entertaining finding out who people think are the disinfo assets on the forum.

Whoever the owner is, I don’t think money for operating cost is a issue. It comes across to me as someone’s shiny new toy that they quickly lost interest in. Hard telling🤷♂️
