Checking on the status of the website

Okay, after seeing the answers to my query’s about the estimated implosion date due to Godaddy domain expiration, and auto renewals.

I’m going to make a prediction - and I never do this 😮:

This place will still be alive after the predicted 05/23 cutoff date. Maybe for another year and even more.

Consequently, it’s going to leave us all more baffled than we are now………..🍻

Looking at the stats (26,765,939 posts, 1,325,279 threads and 367,151 members) and assuming some record sizes we get, for example:
With an average of 7,600 bytes per post, 1,000 per thread and 1,000 per member
7,600 x 26,765,939 + 1,000 x 1,325,279 + 1,000 x 367,151 = 191 GB

Make it easier to throw away your uploads would save tons of space.

Going miss the old ATS but the old ATS is long gone anyway. I have taken the time to wean myself off it, and with DI and Discord Im finding enough content that Im fine without it.

I still check in from time to time, but it's like with the Iran attack on Israel, what a toxic thread. ATS used to be great for breaking current events threads were active 24 hours a day, now it's Discord or Twitter/X but I rarely post on Twitter.

A nonprofit organization with heavy sway among policymakers across the European Union (EU) is pushing for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to wage "war on disinformation."
Known as the EU DisinfoLab, the nonprofit, which claims to be independent, says ICANN needs to expand its control over domain registration limitations to include "disinformation" policing in addition to phishing and malware. It is disingenuous, just for the record, for the EU DisinfoLab to claim independence when a large percentage of its funding comes from none other than the Open Society Foundations, which are a project of billionaire agitator George Soros.

ATS used to be great for breaking current events threads were active 24 hours a day,

I started here the same year you signed up and this place was very different back then. I remember when a full page top to bottom would recycle within a hour if not minutes. People weren’t nearly as agenda driven in their posting back then. Unfortunately now it’s somewhat saturated with trolls and it makes it difficult to have intellectual and civil discussion, something that was common place here years ago. I’ve kind of given up on trying to have meaningful debate with most here nowadays, which sucks. 🤷‍♂️😢

Yes, a lot of that going on but it certainly wasn’t like that 20 years ago. We had some great discussions here back then. It didn’t so much matter what political party you were, for the most part everyone heard each other out and discussed the topic at hand.🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Sadly those days are gone from so many things. The extremes and loudest of either party dominate just like they do here.
