The party in general is not. Maybe the policy makers are. IDK.
I do hear a lot of repubs that oppose that legislation though. They're the ones literally saying they oppose it.
I'm just gonna wait and see like I always do.
The shutdown always goes down the same way.
IDC anymore.
I'm just waiting for Russia and China to invade so I can make a friend and share some vodka.

Haha same here. I'm keeping those iodine pills close by as well, and a handheld geiger counter.

This is the stuff msm doesn’t want you to hear. What the hard right is saying sounds reasonable yet they’re called lunatics ruining America.

Voting on everything at once as an omnibus is being lazy.

Anyone who throws a wrench into a system that extracts money from my labor to fund proxy wars against people I've never met is good in my book.

Democrats have officially become worse than the neo-cons of the late 90's and early 2000's. They haven't found a conflict they didn't intend to exploit.

Carpy, what would happen to the UK if Parliament shut down for a few weeks?

It does. It's shut down for the Party conference season at the moment.

as we have seen Westminster doesn't do anything so it being closed makes zero difference, the ngos will continue to make up laws they think should be implemented, the police will implement whatever they like, the uk functions a lot like Belgium only Belgium functions a lot better than the uk..

Absolutely. Guido Fawkes, the only person to enter Parliament with honest intent.

I think the Americans are 2 elections behind the uk in terms of the majority leaving the existing 2 party tribalism in their wake.. where we end up in 2024 will be interesting.. even libdem davey has rejected re-join, next he'll be saying women can't have willies as the loss of tribalism that maintains the status quo is really profound and the americans, canadians, kiwis and aussies will arrive at the same station at some point..

They’re now for everything they used to claim they were against. Too much $ and votes in play.
They’re also for everything they used to claim as theirs, such as minorities. Too bad they take their money and votes and still do nothing for them, as always. The various colors and cultures now get crumbs, if anything at all, behind the trans, queens, and pedos.

Would be nice if the US had more of a choice and candidates didn't have to spend squillions on their campaigns.

Might open up the choice to some more "normal" candidates?

Last night, the Senate with a clear bipartisan majority voted to pass a stopgap measure that would keep the government open. McCarthy, being the coward that he is, is refusing to bring the measure to a vote in the House.

If the government shuts down it is 100% on McCarthy, the Freedom Caucus, and the GOP as a whole for indulging them.

Unless McCarthy grows a spine, the GOP can wave bye-bye to the House next year and McCarthy will secure his legacy as the worst Speaker of all time.

Granted, both of those things are probably going to happen anyway but this would just cement it.

So dumb.

There has not been a real budget this CENTURY. Think about that.

They scare the public with a shutdown.
They pass a continuing resolution.
Nothing gets done and they all get paid.

This right here....shows who they all really are.

For three more months. They already had months to figure this out.

They have had years to try to find a way to be fiscally responsible again.

Gaetz gets it.

Congress should have been passing fiscally responsible budgets, on time, for years now.

Instead they have been passing continuing resolutions that continue current spending levels, over and over again.

There is no governing anymore. A small group of people decide on thousands of pages of spending, then give the rest of Congress a few days to decide on whether or not they support government.

I was wrong when I said:

If the US continues the reckless spending and borrowing, inflation and interest rates will continue to climb, and at this rate, the US could face a default or even a bankruptcy in the near future. How would those events effect the funding, defense, and future of the US?

The debt ceiling has been suspended until 2025, so a default happening anytime soon, let alone a bankruptcy, is not a possibility.

If I'm understanding this correctly, the worst/best that is going to happen if Congress doesn't approve their spending plan by March of next year is, the government has to take a 1% spending cut across the board.

They figured it out months ago. Remember when Biden and McCarthy met and part of the deal included restarting student loan payments? Biden lived up to his end of the deal and now McCarthy is trying to renege amid come up with a new deal on the fly because the Freedom Caucus has his nuts in a jar.

Was that when they decided to suspend the debt ceiling, after surpassing it?

I remember that student loan repayment was set to go back into effect, regardless, as it should.

Really? I thought it would doing their job to pass a real budget. Again, since 1998, there has been no budget for the US government. It is sad.

Let it close. What someone in Congress should do again is threaten their salaries if there is a shutdown.

Just close government for two weeks to flatten the curve of spending.
