A coherent line of logic, critical thinking and ability to engage would also be nice.

Guess we both are disappointed....

Like, maybe, how Trump doesn't have any political influence?

That sort of logic, critical thinking, logic, and ability to engage?

Without unpleasant snark?

That's the strawman you created.

Why are you responding to me instead of the strawman poster?

So I m off to bed.

Off you go, accuse me of running away?

As you do.

Good night.

Carry on.

Someone tell these domestic traitors that their oath says they will DEFEND THE GOVERNMENT, not DEFUND THE GOVERNMENT.

They swear to defend the Constitution, actually.

As far as defending, and properly funding, the government, the US has seen over two decades of gross over spending and borrowing at the hands of these clowns. They have had decades to find a sustainable path forward, but have continuously choose to do the opposite. I won't even get into how long it's been since Congress actually passed a budget, let alone did so on time.

The $33 trillion of debt they put themselves in, along with the raising interest rates, is not only unsustainable, but the current interest payments are a massive drain on US finances. This reckless behavior also contributed to inflation. If the US continues the reckless spending and borrowing, inflation and interest rates will continue to climb, and at this rate, the US could face a default or even a bankruptcy in the near future. How would those events effect the funding, defense, and future of the US?

US Debt Clock

I feel sorry for everyone who is dependent on a government that can't figure out fiscal responsibility.

The US Government is Headed Towards Another Shut Down

I know Marjorie Taylor Green isn’t the sanest Republican but I like the reason she’s voting no to government funding.

Leaders hope that by amending the Defense and Homeland Security Department bills on the floor, they can appease certain objectors with policy concerns. Most notably, McCarthy said the House would remove any funding for Ukraine from existing legislation and put it up as a separate vote, a singular concession to earn the support of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). In a video posted Friday on X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter, Greene said she was mad at leadership because she has consistently said she would not support spending any money on Ukraine, only to be finally taken seriously after she voted against starting debate on the Defense Department bill Thursday. “All week long I have been saying, ‘Take the money out and I will vote for it.’ But they didn’t respect me, they didn’t respect other people, they didn’t respect the American people,” she said. Greene voted Tuesday to advance the Defense Department bill, but switched her vote to no on Thursday.

Funding Ukraine shouldn’t be tied in with government funding. Some of those “Far right” republicans want Ukraine funding to be a separate vote on its own.

Amazing.

With Trump out of office and this kind of influence (which has yet to be defined) why should he even run for office then....

That is a very good question in regards to him ever running for POTUS again.
I personally think he could achive more through influence on the MAGA vote folks when not in ofiice.
Now if I agree with his ongoings doesn't effect that fact. But with him full on running puts our republic at a stand off.
Other appointments would benefit his future aspects in a more legal and much more respected manner.

The government shutdown is occuring because both sides want to have their own special extravagant gift we didn't approve of, but they can't both afford to have the Lamborghini and 12 jetpacks they wanted, so they don't want the other guy to win.
Don't worry, they'll figure out a spending bill that leaks money and pays them a lot but doesn't benefit us at all.
They're just learning how to share.

Also, it could be that the dems think people deserve a living wage, and the repubs are having seizures and huffing.
Either way, this happens every time, so I still don't get why the "government shutdown" is even news anymore.

The dems are doing everything possible to make sure a living wage is off the table for as many people as possible, while telling you that you deserve a living wage. Sort of like retroactive abortion.

The party in general is not. Maybe the policy makers are. IDK.
I do hear a lot of repubs that oppose that legislation though. They're the ones literally saying they oppose it.
I'm just gonna wait and see like I always do.
The shutdown always goes down the same way.
IDC anymore.
I'm just waiting for Russia and China to invade so I can make a friend and share some vodka.
