Looks like the government is headed toward a shutdown, as orchestrated by the hard right and Donald Trump. There was some hope that some resolution would be reached, or that at least the work on it would continue, but the House Freedom Caucus gave up and boarded airplanes to go home. The Senate stays in session through the weekend in an attempt to pass some bills that could be used in the interim, but they really have no chance of passing the House.

Kevin McCarthy threw a fit last night and ordered everyone to work through the weekend, but the Freedom Caucus members just walked out and went to the airport. They will be back to work on Tuesday, and when they do, there will be only a handful of days left to pass a bill they don't even have written yet.

“This is a whole new concept of individuals who just want to burn the whole place down,” McCarthy said after Thursday’s vote, acknowledging he was frustrated. “It doesn’t work.”

The open revolt was further evidence that McCarthy’s strategy of repeatedly giving in to the conservatives is seemingly only emboldening them, allowing them to run roughshod over their own House majority. Their conservative bills have almost no chances in the Senate.

Trump urged the conservatives to hold the line against the higher funding levels McCarthy had agreed to with President Joe Biden earlier this year and to end the federal criminal indictments against him.

“This is also the last chance to defund these political prosecutions against me and other Patriots,” Trump wrote on social media.

There was also some hope that after their return they would be able to pass what is called a continuing resolution to keep the government functioning, but that has already been shut down by the Freedom Caucus before they went home.

“I’m giving a eulogy for the CR right now,” Gaetz told reporters after a late afternoon meeting at the Capitol.

Get ready for a big shutdown folks. If your family depends on a federal paycheck or social security checks, it's going to get rough. If you get assistance on child care or food assistance, it's going to get rough. If you're planning on a stable economy and a stable house market, good luck, this could end up downgrading us for years.

And for what?

Because Donald Trump and his cronies think defunding the government will defund the prosecutions? Burn down the nation to help yourself?

Someone tell these domestic traitors that their oath says they will DEFEND THE GOVERNMENT, not DEFUND THE GOVERNMENT.

Checks will still get sent out don’t worry.

Could you imagine the chaos if the millions of illegals in the US didn’t get their monthly checks? They’re would be violence in the streets

The reps from Biden-friendly districts will most likely strike a deal with the Dems. They know that if a shutdown occurs they can kiss their seat goodbye next year.

The Dems only need five GOP to reach across the aisle and there's more than that from Biden-friendly districts.

Umm, Trump doesn't hold any office.

Regardless, the Pentagon has assured that it will not have any effect on their doings in Ukraine.

..so there's that.

www.businessinsider.com...

"Trump, who led the longest government shutdown in US history, calls on Republicans to let it happen again in 9 days so they can 'defund these political prosecutions against me'"

But he is pushing for it? No?

This was the claim in the OP:

"Looks like the government is headed toward a shutdown, as orchestrated by the hard right and Donald Trump."

Are you suggesting that he is not "orchestrating" this?

You do know that he's not POTUS anymore ... that the DEMS are the ones at the top now, right?

So you're saying Trump is running things while outside the government?

Sounds like some Q stuff there.

No. I'm saying he has quite some political influence. Which he isn't exactly reticent about using

He has no power over anyone involved, to orchestrate anything. Just like Jan 6.
All you guys have to offer anymore is odd, obviously false, Trump fantasies.

What is most likely to happen is the Senate takes over and finishes the job.

Schumer and McConnell push through a deal after this weekend, since the senators are staying behind to work. And enough republicans and the democrats in the House get together and approve it, cutting out the Freedom Caucus.

The Freedom Caucus ends up looking like the enemy of the people that they really are for trying to screw over Americans to help DJT out.

Did you miss earlier this week when Trump bragged about being the one that convinced the Texas Senators to not vote to convict Ken Paxton.

It is absolutely ridiculous that you guys are pretending that Trump has no influence while at the same time referring to him as the leader of the Party and the frontrunner for the GOP Presidential nomination.
