Twitter was never actually worth 44 billion to begin with. Not really sure why Elon paid that much, but their true valuation was not 44 billion dollars. He had to pay a premium to become, in effect, the sole owner.

Yes, but how strange is it?
Will his Mom allow him to fight the Zuck when she realizes what's at stake, with threads posing a threat to Elon's mental stability?
I don't think Threads is a comparable platform to start with.
If you're woke then clearly this is for you. But for the majority of the population isn't woke so...
Really? Just take Q Anon or the transgender hype train, it's all woke AF. A different taste of woke, innit?
Are you sure?
The trans hype is promoted by the woke and criticised by the rational-sane people from all parts of the political spectrum. And twitter allowed this to happen rather than censoring free speech.
another way of looking at it is that its evolving into 2 churches.. roman catholic type filled with virtue signallers vs protestant reformers, this is very much transubstantiation.. the idea that with a few magical words you can transform one thing into another..
the rights and free expression you think of is an evolution of that previous conflict..
the problem i have is that in creating these 2 sides the natural outcome as before is they come into conflict with each other, and that gets closer by the day..

A company is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Elon paid $44 billion for it. Therefore, it had a value of $44 billion. If he tried to sell today, it's possible he'd make more than $15 billion. But there's no chance he's making more than $44 billion of off it. He's not even going to be able to make back the ~$30 billion it was valued at the day before his investment in the company became public knowledge.

Once again, even if he overpaid at $44 billion, it was still valued at around $30 billion shortly before the purchase went through. It's now valued at half that.
So, what's Elon's plan for turning the ship around? Things keep breaking. Users are leaving. Advertisers are leaving. Twitter Blue is a complete disaster that is nowhere close to making up for the loss in advertiser revenue. Something tells me challenging Zuckerberg to a "literal dick measuring contest" isn't the right path.

That's just it though. Investors are pulling out their money.
Twitter has approximately 450 million monthly active users as of 2022, which is 396 million users more from 2010. The social media platform's audience has increased by more than 40% since 2018. Key Stats: A small group of Twitter users creates the vast majority of tweets.

You are right, however, I don't think much of Musk. I realize that hurts the feelings of Musk cultists like yourself. Last time I checked, I have the right to feel the way I want about him and his abysmal business practices when it comes to Twitter.
I don't disagree with you that some liberal SJW types are so extreme in their views, that they attack people who don't share every last one of their beliefs. But that is not what the complaint about increase of hate speech on Twitter since Musk's taking it over is about.

What exactly do numbers from before Elon took over show?
Recent numbers show active user numbers are down for both the app and web-based site.
Elon Musk claims Twitter is enjoying all-time high usage. We’re not seeing it.

Rotflmao!
I'm not sure what is funnier, that you think anyone here gives a rats crap what you think about Musk, or that you think he has engaged in 'abysmal business practices' with respect to Twitter - I guess referring to his firing a bunch of retarded woke cultists.

No, what they are complaining about is the dramatic increase in sane, rational comments about their insane, radical leftist policies. That is how they define 'hate speech'.

You mean that either Musk is a liar or doesn't even know how his company is doing? Say it isn't so, Joe.
Speaking of which, notice how the Musk/Twitter defenders can't refute any of these facts/metrics regarding Twitter's decline, but can only repeat that tired old chestnut of "woke this, woke that"?

And yet when you look at every metric that determines a social media site's success, Twitter is down in every single one of them since Elon took over.
Musk has slashed thousands of jobs since acquiring the company last fall.
Twitter Inc on Wednesday was hit with a lawsuit accusing it of refusing to pay at least $500 million in promised severance to thousands of employees who were laid off after Elon Musk acquired the company.
Courtney McMillian, who oversaw Twitter’s employee benefits programs as its “head of total rewards” before she was laid off in January, filed the proposed class action in San Francisco federal court.
McMillian claims that under a severance plan created by Twitter in 2019, most workers were promised two months of their base pay plus one week of pay for each full year of service if they were laid off. Senior employees such as McMillian were owed six months of base pay, according to the lawsuit.
But Twitter only gave laid-off workers at most one month of severance pay, and many of them did not receive anything, McMillian claims.
Twitter laid off more than half of its workforce as a cost-cutting measure after Musk acquired the company in October.
Twitter no longer has a media relations department. The company responded to a request for comment with a poop emoji.
The lawsuit accuses Twitter and Musk of violating a federal law regulating employee benefit plans. Twitter has already been sued for allegedly failing to pay severance, but those cases involve breach of contract claims and not the benefits law. The company has said it has paid ex-employees in full.
A pending lawsuit filed last month accuses Twitter of also failing to pay millions of dollars in bonuses it owes to remaining employees. Twitter has said the claims lack merit.
The company is also facing a series of other lawsuits stemming from the layoffs that began last year, including claims that it targeted women and workers with disabilities. Twitter has denied wrongdoing in the cases in which it has filed responses.

So much for Musk's abysmal business practices being all about fighting "wokeism".

No, Musk didn't just lay-off his supposedly "woke" employees who were only following previous Twitter polices, he also laid off many programmers and IT professional as a cost-cutting measure, and like Donald Trump, is now trying to stiff his former employees their severance packages and bonus. This doesn't even include the likely lawsuits from property owners who have been stiffed by Twitter. Likely there will be payouts in the hundreds of millions, but in any case there will be large legal fees as well, not to mention Twitter records from the Musk era that will come out in the disclosure process, which will likely show just what a craptastic and slimy CEO he is.
